In the the long run it won't matter if they move the team to Tampa (or anywhere else in the state) or build a new stadium in St. Pete. The sad reality is that Florida sports teams don't get the support that teams in most other cities enjoy. Just look at the "Miami" Marlins. Before they had a team everyone said the Cubans love baseball so surely they would go to the games, but even after two World Series runs their attendance remained awful. Then a new stadium was the answer, but it didn't even take 1 full season till we stated to see thousands of empty seats on a regular basis.
Most of the people who whine about the Rays poor attendance and say Tropicana Field is a dump are the same people who don't care about the team; don't go to the games now and will not go even if they get a new stadium.
That greedy $&@# Sternberg wants the city to build him a new stadium so he stirs up controversy complaining he's not making any money. Don't be fooled by the BS, the Rays are worth over twice the amount he paid 9 years ago and they still continue to make money even with poor attendance. Don't let them swindle you like that c@nt Loria did to the taxpayers of Miami.
