  1. Two minute drill! I hope we manage the clock to not give it back to Alabama unless it’s because we score a TD.
  2. Our edge rush has been really effective and gotten a lot of tackles for loss and pressure on the QB. Im so proud of the defense! Truly an impressive performance by the coaches and the players!
  3. The game plan is to play aggressive. A punt touch back would be at the 25, and we were at the 35. Our D has held them so far. It was a long field goal, so going for the TD, while aggressive, really was a balance. Pint, FG, or go for it, none had a guaranteed outcome, so he went for the most points. Normally it’s be a field goal, but I think we need point. we can’t expect our Defense to hold Alabama to zero TDs. So having 6 points doesn’t get you the win.
  4. Alabama coverage shutting down our receivers and we have some drops that really hurt.
  5. They hustle and know where to be. Our tempo has had them a little out of step on some snaps, but not enough so far.
  6. We also need plays for Brown to get rid of the ball fast, their defense gets to him very quickly. We’d benefit from some gulf coast offense type plays, move the ball to space quickly.
  7. Neither offense can move the ball. Alabama has no good QB, which is really unusual for them. The QB today has missed a few very easy passes. Alabamas speed on defense is shutting our offense down. The only points in this game have come off of a miffed punt that put USF in field goal range. Im very surprised Alabama has not been able to run the ball. Our defense deserves huge credit here, we’re getting behind their line from the edge and somehow stopping the run. Their QB hasn’t been effective passing, if he was accurate, they’d be moving down field easily, as I don’t think our secondary is a match for their receivers.
  8. Meh, early lead means nothing. Remember FSU came in here and torched us after we scored first even keeping it tied 14-14 early. I think Alabama is going to just run the ball on us with the severe mismatch in their o-line to our d-line.
  9. Well, Alabama green QB has missed some passes already. Maybe Alabama QB struggles give us some relief. USF needs Brown to be more mobile in the pocket. He stands in one position as the pocket collapses. He needs to move a little more.
  10. I’d say they have not played a team with as good disciple or coaching. I’m sure they played lots of great matches ups in high school, and matchups are what matters. We just need to find one for the offense to exploit to score. Overall Alabama will win more matchups and therefore the game. Better man coverage, and receivers that are faster and get open. And some extra time for their QB because of a strong offensive line. It adds up, but it’s not hopeless for the underdog to find a way to make something competitive. Jim Leavitt showed us that and we need to make that part of our culture that transcends who our current coaches are and our current player roster. The Bulls always have a chance.
  11. This is a stupid statement. These players know. They played against great atheletes in high school too. It’s not their first rodeo. They know what it’s like to matched up against freak blockers, rushers, coverage, and receivers over the years.
  12. Jersey color scheme a throw back to the Leavitt era. Maybe some superstition, it’s the colors we were wearing when we had a lot of big upsets.
  13. I have to say if FSU and UNC leave the ACC, and now teams have to travel to Cal and Stanford, it really loses some appeal. But I think I’d still prefer the ACC to the big12, but I think it’s still be good to continue the rivalry with UCF once we are in a better conference.
  14. He said he was concerned about recruiting to USF. Also, who can blame wanting to compete in the Pac12 and Big12 instead of the AAC?
  15. The reason we went with a small stadium is to make sure we have more fans viewing on TV from home because the stadium was sold out. Increasing TV viewers is what gets us into a better conference, game attendance doesn’t.
  16. There is no way I will believe Oregon State or Washington State are better for todays big12 than USF.
  17. Alabama agreed to a 2:1 with us. Weren’t we supposed to have that with Florida as well? I like the 2:1 scheduling and getting some marquee opponents at home that might not agree to a 1:1.
  18. Alabama is next to be added to this list. Never dismiss the Bulls as underdogs. We have beaten top 10 teams before. Wins over top 10 opponents: 3 Rank. Opponent Year 9. Louisville 2005 7. WVU 2006 17. Auburn 2007 5. WVU 2007 13. Kansas 2008 18. Florida State 2009 20. WVU 2009 16. Notre Dame 2011 21. Temple 2015 22. Navy 2016
  19. He upped the talent at Colorado and beat two bad teams. TCU was a big upset, but TCU lost the game before Colorado by a score of 65-7… so TCU could really end up being a bad team, will have to see how the season goes. One of the more interesting comments I saw about Sanders was waiting to see how well he does when his son is not QB.
  20. Do players even need to substitute anymore with modern commercial breaks? Playing fast helps because you get more plays! It’s like taking more shots in basketball. If you average 5 yards a play, it’s obvious that more plays correlates to more yards. If you can’t gain yards and keep punting then playing fast can just end up putting you behind and tiring out your defense, which is where “ball control” comes in, but that’s an antiquated style of play. I think people underestimate the effect of endurance and conditioning. Defenses will get more tired if they have to defend more plays. The speed also puts pressure on the opposing coaching staff to call plays or make adjustments. Coaches make errors too, and they’ve also got multiple things to be focused on throughout the game, so running plays more frequently makes this attention splitting even more taxing and increases the likelihood the coaches will make errors either in personnel or scheme.
