  1. If there is any lesson here it’s that academics don’t matter.
  2. You don’t see it? Stanford and it’s billions in endowments are buying the votes by taking less money.
  3. How about the AAC teams and the MWC teams just black ball the orphaned PAC teams for a year or two? this coast to coast conference talk makes zero sense. Is a hardship on everyone except for football revenue. I really wish the world didn’t revolve around money all the time.
  4. They will be the same when they lose the old PAC money and USF gets new merger money
  5. I don’t think USF makes sense just because of geography. What would this new conference look like?
  6. Confused what is being proposed exactly. 1) is this a proposal for the PAC teams to join the American? What happens to PAC brand? 2). Is this just a proposal for a scheduling arrangement between PAC and AAC with no teams changing conferences? 3). Is it a proposal for teams to leave the American to join the PAC?
  7. Build Wins. Build a trophy collection. Build a list of NFL draft pics. These things we can measure. But how do I measure culture?
  8. This years schedule is truly depressing. I must say, this is a new low since losing Houston, Cincy, and UCF. Our thanksgiving game is Charlotte who I never even heard of until I checked the schedule this morning. I’m not convinced some of the additions to the conference really increase the value. Any coach we have should be able to dominate our conference simply with better athletes with our recruiting location. Admin needs to be all in on building up our fanbase from the existing students and the OCS. An increased fanbase and TV viewers is our only way to up our revenue either by AAC media rights or hoping to a conference with higher revenue. This is why the Big12 took UCF, they’re way larger with more engaged fans and students. More viewers.
  9. The only way to increase our athletics income is to increase our fanbase and win games. More fans, even if we are stuck in the AAC, we can maybe negotiate more media revenue. I think the many years lacking an OCS kept us from maximizing our fanbase growth. We should have started building one sometime from 2007-2010. We’re a decade behind in a crucial time of realignment. I think the OCS will produce more fans as students graduate.
  10. Is USFs fanbase large enough to bring value to media companies who carry our content for the ACC…? Literally the only thing that matters is dollar figure flowing from media to universities. Academics, fans, athletes, students, those things don’t matter in realignment. The only value USF might have is for recruiting exposure in Florida. The ACC already has Miami which has a bigger fan base and provides Florida media market. USFs fanbase isn’t big enough to make a dent in the media contracts. Our only hope is winning, and the OCS printing more fans. Then maybe we somehow get enough interest to be invited to another conference, or we make our destiny and the AAC teams somehow increase their fans and negotiate a better deal themselves for media rights.
  11. This. We should have the highest recruiting classes among our G5 peers along with a much stronger fanbase. Hopefully the OCS puts us on that course. Our biggest problem should be keeping winning coaches, not getting conference wins.
  12. Looks like it, but you really should practice like you play. How do they practice real tackling these days?
  13. Face it. USF doesn’t add value to the media rights for the P5(4?) conferences. We just need to dominate our G5 conference. Keep the students engaged with the OCS to grow the fan base. Maybe we’ll get the G5 playoff slot every few years.
  14. Take away the finances. Is the big 10 or ACC better for FSU?
  15. Also a bit shocking how much Rutgers ticket revenue has decreased since they’ve been losers in the Big 10.
  16. Sounds the Big10 really screwed Rutgers and Maryland. And made the contracts secret!!!! ‘Unsustainable’: How Rutgers athletics quietly racked up $265M in debt WWW.NORTHJERSEY.COM This was the year Rutgers University athletics expected to be on firm... —- Additionally, a number of Rutgers officials have signed confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements with the Big Ten, including Holloway, Hobbs and Gower. Lesniak, a staunch supporter of Rutgers athletics, said any contract with a state university should be available for the public to see. He had been behind the bill that gave Rutgers $25 million in tax credits for new buildings, and his foundation paid for a study highlighting the benefits of joining the Big Ten. “We're putting taxpayer dollars into this,” he said. “We should have access to the contract.” A former member of Maryland’s governing body protested that school’s entrance into the Big Ten because of the secrecy. He said that board members were not given details about the agreement with the conference, including Maryland’s loans from the Big Ten, which tax records show have ballooned to more than $113 million. —-
  17. It’s about football ratings and average viewership. FSU has a much more viewers and fans. Certainly USF would pick up a ton of viewers with a big 10 schedule, but other big 10 fans would have less enthusiasm, and it wouldn’t be as many as FSU would bring. There is a pecking order. Big10 and SEC at the top. Their members don’t leave. They poach from one level below, which is the PAC, ACC, and Big12. Second tier is ACC, Big12, and PAC. Member schools jump ship to the Big10 or SEC if they can. These 3 poach from the G5 conferences, the AAC. Last is the AAC and other group of 5 conferences. Their member schools jump ship. The Big10 and the SEC are not going to reach down the G5 schools like USF. The current G5 are the rejects from the days of the Big East.
  18. FSU and the new conference still have to figure out a way around the ACC grant of rights.
