  1. Boise was a meltdown. Not sure why that would make anyone sympathetic to the coaching job done there. They also had 2 wins over bad teams by 1 score. If you want to count close games, you should consider them both ways. Wake, I guess was ranked at the time. About as meaningful as us being ranked last season.
  2. I am like 99% sure that find them would be his highest priority
  3. He is slick Willie he will come up with something kind of corny and move on "at the end of your dream you wake up" "Dont dream about something, do something" Etc
  4. I get where you are coming from and I kind of agree. Counterpoint is Frost, Heupel, and Fickell came from great programs. I think we need the little guy attitude - high energy and someone who can play the underdog. Don't think it has to come from a lesser program but it is something Kelly has to feel out.
  5. I agree Taggart is more likely to stay longer compared to others, IMO Still isn't high on my personal list
  6. As has Memphis and Cinci. Was also Houston's move when they were the class of conference. Was also the case the year that Temple won conference. I think George OLeary is the only head coach who has won the conference who was a head coach before. I guess Tuberville technically got a split too
  7. My guess was they couldn't really tell someone they can't apply.
  8. Joe Brady and Jeff Scott interest me. Haven't looked too much into them yet. I think the best formula in this conference has been hiring great coordinators from good programs. Although I'd be looking at some of the overachieving programs, these two guys have everything at their disposal and that won't be the case here. Want to get someone with a little chip on their shoulder. Shaun King would be solid and I'd be okay with that depending on what and who is actually available to us. Would love Leavitt.
  9. I just don't see anyone staying long term if they are winning at the highest level. It would not even be in my top 20 factors. The only exception was the guy whose baby this was. No one else will have that connection.
  10. look at how flat this team comes out week after week, that is the enthusiasm they bring to the game aka the biggest stage. and then realize they are almost assuredly approaching practice and off-season training with even less enthusiasm and it really makes sense why there is no development. Starts with the attitude of the head coach.
  11. I would even tag on to that, in the Taggart glory years here of 2015 and 2016, when we failed to win the conference or even the division, that Cinci, UCF, and SMU were trash teams and Memphis was okay but a little behind where they are now IMO. Not only did we not win the conference under Taggart, but it is a bit tougher conference now
  12. +1. I wouldn't say just QF, we had a handful of really good college players that allowed him to blossom. but the defense was terrible and we had some holes in the depth chart even when we were top 25. As a program I don't think we were that strong, just had a few studs. They're all gone
  13. I do think compared to Gilbert, Bell at least does different things that dont work, not necessarily just the same things
  14. would be caught about 96% of the time in your local over 40 flag football league
  15. have to run the QB. if you have a qb who can't throw and doesn't run you are short a man.
  16. Would probably be disastrous. I do think we need to use J Evans in some wildcat stuff
  17. Seems like we are starting 1st and 15 half the time. Not near good enough for that
  18. same story as the last 15 years. we need a dual threat capable qb, with a willing playcaller.
  19. I'm not against a "retread" as a rule but CWT is not a championship caliber coach IMO. Never won a championship or even a bowl game. Yes he improved our team greatly, but X's and O's he is not a top coach, NFL players and HS coaching. So he comes back and as a coach who is primarily a recruiter and motivator, just older and having been knocked out a few times - not even at the top of that game. Its a very similar story to Strong. Mostly mediocrity surrounded by a couple years with a great QB. Maybe he is more likely to recruit that next great QB but its a little harder sell the second time around.
  20. reflection of the coach. every time he loses he digs in to his losing ways more.
  21. Might at least get inspired trash. Charlie has never given much indication that this bothers him.
  22. O line play can be transformed by a dual threat QB, IF the coaches play to it. Some of these same OL were okay two years ago yet looked awful last year and first two weeks this year.
  23. I don't blame him if he didn't want to dedicate another year of his life to lace them up for Alabama State. Kid is done with football and now not going to waste the next three years realizing football is done with him. I hope he is in the right place to finish a degree up. Some consistency issues, seemingly some other things, but I don't see that he deserves comparison to Gunsby.
