  1. We have A LOT of students that like to attend things. In real life... 8,000 to 10,000 regular students is A LOT. But, when you think about it... 4,000 out of 43,000 isn't so great. Sg only gave out 1,200 or so tickets... which is amazing attendance for an away game (best ever in USF history). But it was in our backyard... an hour drive... against a team most people say we hate. We SHOULD get more than we did! Everything will "come with time." BUT, I hope efforts by SG, student affairs, athletics, etc speed it up a bit. To be fair one must look at the actual number of fulltime students on the Tampa campus which is not anywhere near 43,000. There also many fulltime USF students who are working fulltime or near fulltime jobs and therefore unlikely to have the time to attend many football games or other campus activities. I believe that USF has more of these students than many universities. While the number of people who traveled to the UCF game may have been a record for USF. It was a poor turnout for a game just an hour away...Forget the excuse about who the opponent was...it goes to show the true interest in USF football...real fans wouldn't miss a game that close to home. While there are some people who can attend a particular game for reasons beyond their control, however 75 to 80 percent do not. One must also face the fact that many people (students or otherwise) have little to no interest in attending football or other sporting events.. What pecentage of the Tampa Bay population is knocking down the doors to buy season tickets to the Bucs, the Rays, or the Lightning? Fine... System Wide: 43,885 Tampa Campus: 37,645 If you want to really get into it... here is the link for all of the numbers: http://usfweb2.usf.edu/infomart/eprofiles/currentprofile/eProfilesUSFSystem.htm EITHER way... we should get more than 20,000 students on homecoming... at least
  2. You should all complain up a storm. That's retarded. The 10-15 students that care enough to come to a woman's bball game should get a sky box for life now. Just a question... you guys wern't counting off the ref right? They used to hate that... haha...
  3. That's amazing... I want a 200% increase in tutition to pay for this now Good point all around. It's the college atmosphere we ARE missing at RAY JAY. If USF told the public TODAY they wanted to build a stadium, the motions WOULD start. You won't see it for a few years still, but it would be set in motion. I still thnk they will take some time... around 10 years to get started , but you never know!
  4. Actually, there is. I have heard that something like 90% of USF students live within 5 miles of campus. I don't have a source for this number, but I am certain that most of USF's full-time traditional age students live a heck of a lot closer to the main campus than to Raymond James. If USF has close to 30,000 full-time students, most of these will attend that Tampa campus, and most of them will live within a few miles of campus. You are making a very false argument here. There are about 90,000 adults (18+) living in Gainesville, and the Swamp holds about 90,000 seats. Now, it is not possible that EVERY adult in that city goes to home games. To the contrary, the vast majority of fans at the Swamp do not live in Gainesville -- they drive from all over the state to attend games. The same holds true for Tallahassee. They do not attract large crowds because there is nothing else competing for attention -- no matter how true that is. They attract large crowds because they have developed large fan bases over 50 years of playing football. Raymond James Stadium cost more than $300 Million to build. Now, you can save quite a bit by leaving off the upper deck and only putting in one-story of luxury boxes. There are some other areas where costs could be saved... but if you factor in what people think is the minimum "comfort" level, the stadium would be at least $150 million, maybe closer to $200 million by the time it gets built. I think Jim needs to get hired at USF... Anyway, good stuff. Like I have been saying guys... 10 years
  5. Buddy of mine at FSU told me about it a month ago... shame
  6. Would this be an educated or uneducated comment? In other words, do you really know what you are talking about? No offense... but anyone can point fingers...

  8. We are still looking for donors on half the things I listed above! We can, and will, get donations for an OCS... but not right away. I wish I could see an OCS being here sooner... but I still think it's ten or so years away. (BTW: this is my 1000th post... I need to get off this thing!)
  9. Well, like I always say... I bet we have an OCS or we start getting funding for an OCS within 10 years. By then... we will have: -A renovated Sun Dome -A new Softball Stadium -A new Baseball Stadium -A new Soccer Stadium -A new football practice facility with god knows what.. -Better funding -New band uniforms (I hope... just had to throw it in ya know) -AND an established Big East football team In ten years... you will see an OCS
  10. UL started 88 years ago... the smallest gap between our start and any other BE team. That's nuts!

  12. Actually, E&G funds are for the operating costs. Academic buildings are built using Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) funds that are collected from the Gross Receipts Tax on electric and telecommunications bills and from the $2.32 per credit hour Building Fee. FSU used Capital Improvement Trust Fund money to build the University Center around Doak Campbell Stadium. CITF money is paid by students per credit hour ($2.44), and is officially appropriated by the Florida Legislature, upon a recommendation process that starts at each university. Yes, a special fee would help -- but at less than 500,000 credits per year for less than 45,000 students -- it would need to be pretty hefty to provide substantial funds. The Marshall Center fees ($1.50 per credit hour and $20 per semester) generates around $2.5 million per year... (estimate)... You bet me at my own game... I don't know why I was talking about E&G... haha... you got me. PECO was right. CITF doesn't bring in a lot of money. But it could be used. Current projects under way for CITF funds are SHS (health services) and helping the new MC. Along with a few more little projects.
  13. I agree We keep saying, "with time." But the fact is, nothing is done to MARKET the games to students. "Free tickets and free busses should be enough." NOT IF NO ONE KNOWS WE HAVE FREE TICKETS!!! I would say 3 out of 4 USF students don't know we have free tickets...
  14. Wow... and only a year ago you couldn't shut up the TV guys. "The Big Least" I hope we show em...
  15. http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sports/comments/where-are-the-students/ I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW...
  16. On campus stadium?????? But the NCAA doesnt allow beer right!!?!?!?! Why is that ALWAYS the question? Besides the fact that USF is a wet campus with beer in the Sun Dome and a "wet" new Marshall Center on the way! http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sports/comments/where-are-the-students/
  17. It is actually FAR FAR FAR worse than what you show -- this was part of the research I needed to do, today: In 2005-2006, USF had 463,325 total credit hours. So, student fees would be less than $1 million per year at $2 per credit. Source: FL Dept of Education For what it's worth, At USF, the current (2006-2007) Athletic fee is $10.16 per credit hour PLUS $7 per student per semester. Tax dollars will not be used: the Legislature is dominated by Florida and Florida State grads. Unless the state allows them to use tax dollars to pay off debt service on their facilities, you can expect that USF will not get tax dollars. That leaves private sources as the only other sources: - Donations - Personal Seat Licenses - Luxury Box Rent - Naming Rights and other Advertising - Concessions - Parking Can we get $11 million or more from these sources? Sure -- but do not expect student fees to be anything other than a very minor component. Very good Jim... right on the "money." Another thing about state tax money (not E&G -- PECO). They can NOT be used unless it is for a ACADEMIC building. Note: FSU added "classrooms" (also known as golf cart storage rooms it the real world) to the stadium. This is where I'm not sure if the state would let us get away with. Thats why the new Marshall Center needed two fees to pay for it. A small flat fee and a per credit hour fee. Some Activity and Service fee (the stuff SG "hands out") were also used, and are still being saved up "in case something happens." State tax dollars were not used. They could use a similar fee system that we set up for the new MC: http://ctr.usf.edu/renovation/stufees.html
  18. I'm pretty sure one of my friends did it. Either way, I did fill it out when they were doing it. $2 fee for a stadium? I wouldn't mind...
  19. That's funny because more than one person in the band has told me that the HOT isn't a marching band. The Herd of Thunder Athletic Bands Program contains the: -Herd of Thunder Marching Band -Herd of Thunder Pep Band -Herd of Thunder Show Band -Herd of Thunder Drumline -Herd of Thunder Field Guard -Herd of Thunder Winterguard The "marching band" is a band that marches. WTF? How are they NOT a marching band!? It's possible a few random members said that the band isn't a military band like OSU or a historic black band like FAMU... but not a marching band? If they were not a marching band... then they would just be a football pep band.
  20. Ehh... I'd rather not remember the bball games... :-/ A rug will do...
  21. I was in the band then... but remind me why it was a jinx?
