  1. I know they have a food stand run my the Sun Dome (prolly beer)... I bet you could sneek something in if you wanted too.
  2. I have a funny feeling every administrator in the state is trying to one up the other schools with their athletics. An OCS is on the way
  3. Well, is it in the back of people's minds? Yes. Is it being "looked" at? No. Administrators, all of them and espcially student affairs, want an OCS. They just don't have the funding right now. None the less, they will rush into an OCS at the first chance.. Maybe we need to stop phyco-analyzing the issue. We ALL, admin/athleitc/students/alums, WANT an OCS (minus a minorty, yes you really are a minority, that really want Ray Jay no matter what). Someone posted something about Athletics extending the lease for 5 more years. DUH! At least 5 more years, and like I have said a billion times... more like 10 years. Do you really think that Student Affairs is part of the equasion when it comes to land acquisitions? My source is well above that level in the food chain. I know that there is a lot going on regarding land acquisition planning that is far above what I'm privy to and I'll go out on a limb and say that the same holds true for you. There is more to the need for additional land than just an OCS. Way above huh? Well, either its one of the other VP's, Judy, or the BOT... none of which have called for studys, research, or a report. So until THAT happens, nothing is being "looked" at. But thats cool, I'm glad to hear someone is drinking buddys with Dr. G or whoever. You never know, the CDC met today and ACE meets later this week... maybe it will come out of no where! BTW: I was saying Student Affairs would REALLY like an OCS, mainly becuase of campus life and blah blah blah... it's not like the VPSA is the only person I talk too. I wish they would do a study/research on it.
  4. your source is full of **** Well, unlike you he wasn't talking out of his ass, unless of course you are directly involved in such matters. :loser haha sorry randy

  6. They know that the mall will go bye-bye some day, but the real problem lies in two places: 1) the mall owners insistance that whoever buys the mall has to buy ANOTHER mall elsewhere along with it, and 2) the mall has scadered out-parcles that are independatly owned. Plus, you have a major gap between the USF property and the mall property (Staples/Sweetbay shop areas). Is it possible? Yes. But no one in the USF administration is counting on it. Promise.
  7. If the track and soccer teams go around football and basketball games selling game day programs, why are you guys too busy to earn a buck? Just an opinion. It would seem bands would be in a great position to put forth some effort to earn their keep since they eat up a lot of money because of their size. You dont need to sell candy bars but you provide services that by their nature fans would pay for. IE - CDs, pep band performances at city events the the understanding that a donation would be made...etc. Band uniforms themselves cost thousands of dollars for something that is worn a handful of times a year...and to be frank, could be replaced by swooshie/warm-up pants and t-shirts and still get the job done looking good. You gotta look at the big picture. How many footballs and pads could you buy with that money? Not stirring the pot - promise. Maybe the track and soccer teams sell programs at UCF but they don't at USF. Most of our student athletes don't have fundraising responsibilities, that is on the shoulders of the coaches with assistance from the Bulls Club. The band is now getting professional fundraising support from central development to help meet their financial needs and we are working with the cheerleaders to help them out. Just wanted to set the record straight on that so our donors don't get mad that we are prostituting our student athletes. Eric Prostituting is bad.
  8. I trhink it would be easier to sell UF NC t-shirts in Columbus. A CD is where it's at....why can't they solve the copyright issues and whatever else it is that's holding it up? The problem they have has already been listed... read the thead
  9. Well, every State University in Florida but USF, with a football team... will have its own OCS now. FIU just topped it off with approval of the Board of Governors 2 minutes ago. (Sorry, I don't have any links, I am at the BOG meeting at FAU right now.)
  10. It's been mentioned before... but never took off.
  11. Read the article people, it's true AND contains information... haha
  12. Leavitt Names Greg Gregory to Replace Rod Smith as Offensive Coordinator  Courtesy: USF Release: 01/22/2007 TAMPA, FLA. (January 22, 2007) -- Greg Gregory has been promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and graduate assistant Mike Simmonds has been named the offensive line coach at USF, head coach Jim Leavitt announced tonight. Gregory replaces Rod Smith, who has resigned his position, and Simmonds replaces Greg Frey, who was named the offensive line coach at West Virginia earlier this evening. “Greg Gregory was a steadying influence on our offense throughout the past two seasons,†said Leavitt. “I have absolute confidence that he will step right in and lead our offense with strong command. He has a great deal of experience, and we’re really looking forward to him taking over our offense.†“Mike Simmonds proved himself all throughout the 2006 season while working in his graduate assistant role. He is very deserving of taking over the offensive line position, and his knowledge of the game and work ethic will be great assets.†Gregory enjoys a wealth of top-level experience, including 13 seasons as an offensive coordinator and two as a head coach, all at the collegiate level. He first joined USF in 2005 as tight ends coach, after he had been an offensive coordinator for four successive seasons at Ohio (2000-2003) and Richmond (2004). He was the head coach at Missouri Southern State in 1998 and 1999. Prior to Missouri Southern, Gregory had been on the staff at Army for 16 years, including seven (1991-97) as associate head coach and a total of nine (1989-97) as offensive coordinator. He also worked with receivers, running backs and quarterbacks at various stages in his 16 years at Army. Simmonds joined the Bulls in 2006 after an ultra-successful career as a high school head coach in Tampa. He compiled a 75-29 record in eight seasons at Jefferson High, where he led the Dragons to the state championship game on 2002 and 2004. After a 2-8 debut in 1998, Simmonds led his program to seven consecutive appearances in the state playoffs. He was 17-7 in his postseason competition. A graduate of Indiana State, Simmonds was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1987 (10th round), where he was a starting guard in 1989. Including time with Tampa Bay and San Diego, Simmonds was credited with four NFL seasons. http://www.gousfbulls.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=7700&ATCLID=751477
  13. Almost all fundraising is done by the foundation and others. Band memebrs themselves do not get involved, as a normal college student + band duties = little time. As far as the CD, they REALLY want to create one too. One is STILL in the works, and is possible in the future. I assume we are still stuck on buying the rights to copyrighted songs. Not sure.
  14. Well, Ron was at our "band camp" this last fall. In fact, he has been at many of them. Again, the band is aware of the issue... why don't we talk about something more interesting... really?
  15. It looks like the current efforts to help fund the band and make them more self dependant are working! The man Pres. Genshaft put in charge of finding solutions has made more headway in 2 months than has been done in 4 years! This is exactly what the program needs, as the band's staff has other responsibilities (not that they shouldn't or have not helped, but they have to teach!). I'm very happy to see this coming along, I can only hope for even more progress over the rest of this year. Of course, this isn't the time to give up and say the band has enough funding. Gifts in kind, any donation, helps. Maybe it's an physical item or money. Either way... the band may use it or sell it for profit. Donation link is always in my signature: http://usfweb2.usf.edu/ua/affmb/flash/ Go to the foundation website if you are donating anything other than money: http://giving.usf.edu/Ways+You+Can+Give/ (Try e-mailing the band to see if they can use whatever you are giving them!) (Ex: Trailors, trucks, lifts, etc) Work for a major company? Matching gifts!: http://www.matchinggifts.com/usf/ As always... GO BULLS! :GoBulls
  16. You see... now it's just getting retarded. John knows UCF... check where he got his BA! http://band.arts.usf.edu/staff/john_schrettler.htm USF and UCF have the same policy: if you practice/have time to practice = no flip // if you dont practice/dont have time = flip very simple... and the suggestion of no flips is clearly noted and already supported. Now I am a "band nerd," but can we discuss something more interesting now?
  17. I agree. Flips stink... but I would give it a little more time. Peer efforts were already started to get flips off the field last year... getting better every year. I care more about the uniforms, eh....
  18. Thats what i was thinking. Herman - 7th grade jazz band award winner and 7th grade all county trumpet player. Nice
  19. Yellow shorts? Well, was it the basketball warm up?
  20. Very valid point. BTW Bobcat... after your OSU comment, I know everything you say is BS. I was in the band in '03... I did like the field show better without the flips... BUT like I said above... the band has other priorities right now. Building the program and building tradition. Either e-mail the director or get over it. Man you seem pretty defensive. This is a USF message board, I think the guy should at least be able to raise the question about the USF band. Didn't you start this thread anyway? I have no problem with him raising questions, and no one should have an issue with my comments on them I started this thead since he hijacked the band donation thead, and didnt notice (or ignored) the "only posts about donating to the band." More or less, I was just posting what I knew about why the band uses flips. Since I was in the band during the fall, I knew a little about iit... I agree with not using flip folders, but there are reasons why they are not using them for right now.
  21. True. I don't remember ever playing it. Not that it shouldn't be played... but whatever Maybe the womens band director just started playing it and not the mens director??? Either way its an issue to take up with each director... not random board members...
  22. I hope to god band members wern't rude, and I agree... the alma mater should be played after EVERY game we attend.
