1. Yeah, he seems to like winners. Hopefully we beat FSU next year.
2. As mama said, you don't have to play just because you got a hardship waiver. We are so desperate for WRs right now it is ridiculous not to at least try. If he did play, you'd hope we recruit some guys this year to replace Boyd's lost year many years from now.
3. Bogan's #3 in my book, behind AJ Love & Sterling Griffin. Agree the jury is out of Cliett, but I'm less than thrilled that we're reaching at this point, given the schollie limits. Again, maybe this guy's a stud...but I am hopeful we'll land some big pix soon, and get our class rankings to 40 or so. Class ranking is secondary to filling the needs and getting quality (even if underrated) talent.
4. You dont understand. Those scores are all weighted. When you apply to a prestigious legendary world renowned academic powerhouse like ucf, they weight your scores in comparison to the rest of their elite students. Its kinda like grading on a curve. I would like to see a correlation between winning and recruiting class out of the top 10, but inside the top 25. I bet there is none. Classes that fall between 16-60 = the same. Until I see proof to the contrary, that's the way it shakes, sorry. Bring in a top 15 class and then you can abstain from dillusions brought on by the :KoolAid Sincerely 3 and 1 non BCS schools. When you get close to a top 25 recruiting class, come back here.
5. UCF has pulled away plenty from USF this year in recruiting head to head. The occassional 2 year Juco only means bandaids and breathmints as far as plugging holes on a team. Ask our former coach. We used to get all these 4 star guys, go look at our 2002 class. All that gets you is a chocolate yoo hoo and the St. Pete bowl. you had 3 4-star JuCos in 2002. So what? Andre Hall and Craig Marshall are working out just fine for us. Just because your coaches can't get JuCos to play doesn't mean ours can't. Take away our JuCo's, and hell, all of our post grads, and we still have a much better class than you. To think otherwise is to not live in reality.
6. Only 7 of them would require upsets. The more that happen the more likely we are to pass whoever loses, so it could be a snowball effect like what happened several times last year to vault us up. Upsets happen every week, and you basically predicted that only 1 upset would be possible. That's amazing. I see Kansas, San Jose, Arizona and Rutgers as having a decent chance. Rutgers just beat UConn, and I don't think Pitt is better than UConn. Granted, UConn might be better with their other QB. I mean really, all of them have a chance. Who would have predicted Ole Miss to beat UF and Oregon State to beat USC? If just 5 of them happen (again, including THREE that aren't even upsets), I think most teams would drop out of the top 10 that lost and we'd be in the top 10. I think that's more likely than your scenario of moving up 2 spots. Then again, 2 of the 3 that don't need to be upsets could also be upsets and then we might not pass them unless a lot of other upsets happen. Still, I like our chances.
7. Only three of those games could really help us - and then only if the higher seeded team wins. San Jose State won't beat Boise State. OK State losing to Texas may or may not drop them past USF. Your first statement is absolutely false. All of those games COULD help us. I also think it is almost guaranteed that OK State would drop below us if they lost. It wouldn't be that many spots because I think Penn State wins, too. All of the teams playing unranked teams could drop pretty far. Of course it depends on how many lose, but they all COULD help. Oh, and San Jose State is 5-2 so they could compete with Boise State. I am not saying I'd pick them, but at least it's not on the blue turf. It's not like Boise has played anyone besides Oregon, whom they beat by 5. Oh, and Texas Tech would outright drop below us. Kansas is lucky so many other teams lost so they'll stay ranked, but Texas Tech's first game this season is Kansas. Oh, my bad, they played Nebraska...and went into OT...a lot of people in the media say they are overrated so they won't get the benefit of the doubt. Look, the point here is that there are a lot of options for moving up with those games. If only the LSU/Georgia game helps, then obviously we won't move up much.
8. Losses by Texas, Alabama, Penn State or Oklahoma probably wouldn't be enough to push us past those teams. Losses by Florida or Oklahoma State would be toss-ups as far as whether or not we pass them. With the possibility of being 5th if all 10 games go our way, it would depend. Obviously, it is more likely for half that amount, but I think at least 3 happen. It would be easier for Texas and Penn State to win. They are likely to beat the teams they are playing, which would help us. That's what I include in the 10 possibilities. However, Bama and Oklahoma would be losing to unranked teams. For Bama, their wins are already less impressive than they seemed, and Oklahoma has already lost so a loss to an unranked team could drop them a decent amount. Those are just 2 of the least likely possibilities, though, so like I said, it would depend. I think UF losing to ANOTHER unranked team would drop them 8 spots and OK State would drop 5 spots if they lost. Very few teams avoid a 5 spot drop. Oklahoma did, but they lost to another top-5 team. I think top-10 is a good possibility, assuming we beat Louisville, of course, which is certainly not a given.
9. we'll obviously be 14th or 15th in the AP and Coaches polls. For those of you that think this doesn't matter...we could be as high as #5 after next week: No. 15 Boise State at San Jose State No. 2 Alabama at Tennessee No. 7 Texas Tech at No. 16 Kansas No. 4 Oklahoma at Kansas State Kentucky at No. 5 Florida No. 10 Georgia at No. 13 LSU No. 8 Oklahoma State at No. 1 Texas Rutgers at No. 23 Pittsburgh No. 3 Penn State at No. 12 Ohio State No. 6 USC at Arizona 10 games that could help us. I would not bet that Tennessee, K-State, Kentucky, or Rutgers win, but those others are plausible. That would still be as high as #9 if Boise, Texas Tech, Georgia/LSU, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, and USC lose. I would think it's likely that OK State and OSU lose, so we'd at least be 12th with all those other games in play to move up... We could have an at-large BCS bid at stake even if Pitt doesn't lose twice.
10. Griffin is a stud! I didn't know Trae Williams was a RB. Nice.
11. It is an American right to be able to question the leaders of our country, so yeah, I don't have to support every war. Thanks for reminding me. Loyalty to this country does not mean BLIND loyalty. Let me get this straight...you are comparing being a fan of a college athletic team with caring for members of a Church or family? Are you serious? I'm well versed in what loyalty means, but again, it's just a sports team, it is not life or death. It is not just Harvard. There are plenty of schools that do not rely on Football and Basketball as their main success as a University. Believe it or not, a lot of students choose where to go based on, what's that thing you do in college, oh yeah, academics. Look, I said it makes the school more popular to people that like sports, but I don't think that directly translates into becoming a better academic institution. I think we have a great reputation as a medical research center and are opening a "world-class alzheimer's center" according to the Oracle. I think a company hiring me would see a football championship and recognize USF, but may or may not recognize that the school has a great engineering record unless they have met great USF engineers before. Seems to me most of the money donated from athletics success would go to athletics, but even if this connection benefits academics down the road, hopefully I'll have enough experience with my job to not need athletics to be the beacon of recognition for the academic institution I attended. Btw, I will not wear Gator gear because I went there for a year; I hate them. But by your logic I should remain loyal to their team because they taught me for a year. That brings me back to my point, however. I don't think some people wearing shirts on campus has any effect on donations. You can not force people to like this school or to wear what YOU want them to wear. Leave them alone. Assuming I wore my FSU gear on campus, if some jerk told me I should not wear it I'd tell them to mind their own business. Most likely, however, the person would know it's just about sports and not academics. USF gaining national recognition for anything would be nice to brag about, but it's not exactly going to change my life. And in particular, a sports team winning something only gives you bragging rights about sports topics. Is UF going to become a better academic place now? Do you really believe that? Is Miami a lot better for winning those championships? Georgia Tech is a great engineering school, but I don't think it would get any better if one of their teams won a championship in a sport. Everyone knows Duke sucks at football, but that doesn't seem to effect their basketball success now does it? Likewise they are also great at academics. One area does is not needed for success in another. Even if you completely disagree with me, as you seem to do, I still don't think people should be up in arms that some girl wears UF shirts. Get over it, seriously.
12. Maybe just because you are a buckey but I have to disagree completely. The school you attend does have to be your die hard favorite team. You can be fans of other teams but there will not be another "your" school. Academics seem to hate to admit this but there is a direct connection between the respect you get for that piece of paper hanging in your office and the success/recognition of your athletic programs. If you want to make that piece of paper more valuable than you do everything in your power to promote respect of your school and your support of athletics is a big part of that. Putting any other school above your own not only is disrespectful to the school but it also indirectly helps to devalue that piece of paper. Who made these rules? Being a fan is NOT a sport. Being a fan is NOT based on legal stipulations. I also don't think USF winning the Big East will make my Electrical Engineering degree look any better to a company that might want to hire me. Maybe if I was getting my degree in athletics? I understand that you guys want all the students to like USF sports. I do, too. But it will change with time and winning, not being an a-hole to everyone that grew up supporting another team first. We need all the fans we can get. If we have an amazing season, starting by beating Auburn, then perhaps we pick up all the bandwagon fans. I don't think Miami sold out every game last year. It's the same at every school. If we win consistently people will figure it out. I try to talk to fellow USF students at my job and they have no clue what is going on with USF, but they sure know what is going on with respect to the national media attention and their other FL schools. They laugh at the bowl games we go to. It's just casual fans and bandwagons fans, that's how they are. Deal with it. Not everyone is like you. Try to promote, be positive, tell people about Mike Ford (I play football on campus every week and hardly anyone I play with knows about him), but there is no reason to attack people that are not like you. Let people support who they want. Being a fan is not a job for most people. your right, I forgot we live in a day and age that loyalty is a thing long forgotten Yeah, because being loyal to a sports team is the real test of a person's character. Let me repeat: being a fan is not a job. Being a fan should be fun and enjoyed however you want. What you are is way too serious about the situation. Also, there isn't much loyalty in professional sports because, like most people, athletes go where they can make the most money. Hard to root for individual players if you only like a certain team. Shows loyalty to stick with any team now. Besides that, being staying with the team YOU GREW UP ROOTING FOR shows loyalty and shows you are not a bandwagon fan and that you take being a fan seriously, even if it's too serious like most of you on this topic. Maybe if you took the time to actually read my posts would would have noticed I made a distinction between your College team and just any old athletic team (actually that was the entire point to my post). There is much more than just being a fan that goes into supporting your school's football team, re-read my post for the details that I don't feel like retyping. Again, I am not saying you should quit being a fan of the other schools, just that supporting your own school is more important as it has other ramifications and yes there is a loyalty factor that isn't there with simply a team that you are a fan of. and no, sticking with your previous teams over your own school does not show loyalty. You have loyalty to your country, your family, your school etc... you don't have loyalty to a community that you are just an outside wannabe. It may show that you are a die hard fan but sorry I put loyalty a step above fandom. But as I said, this is a day and age of no loyalties aside from "ME ME ME" I read the post I responded to. I separate athletics from scholastics. I don't think Harvard's reputation as an academic institution is called into question if they don't win the Ivy League Championship in any particular sport. I don't think Stanford, a similar quality academic institution, cares if they lose the Pac-10 every year except for how much money they could have gotten. I think it is natural to go for the team of the school you went to because there is a connection to it and the players do represent the school. I think it is much easier for a school to get a bad reputation from athletics than a good one. I don't think more highly of FSU's academics or UF's academics from each of their 2 championships, but Miami has a reputation of a thug school because of their football team. I don't know how much people even take that into account either. I will repeat what I typed: I don't think USF winning the big east would improve my Electrical Engineering degree. More money generated from athletics could improve the popularity of the school as far as people wanting to come here, but the biggest thing is the money generated which most likely would just go back into athletics to support the non-money-making programs and a new stadium and basketball practice facility. Oh, and that Dining Hall. I do not think a company will hire me based on the fact my team won the Big East, either. I think they'll be more interested in what I can do for them, you know, engineering-wise. Furthermore, just because I go to an institution does not mean I have to support every facet of it. By your logic I should be a Gator sports fan just because I went there a year. Maybe they should be my new 3rd team? I disagree, because I went there for academic reasons, not sports reasons. You said people must support their school's athletics and I completely disagree. I think you are too serious about sports. It is cool to brag about the school you went to winning something big nationally, but I don't think it improves the reason you go to a University: TO LEARN.

15. Ok, first of all, I think you guys need to separate athletics and academics. You should go to a University based on academics, not sports. I went to UF a year even though I was never a fan of them growing up. Why? I'm an EE major and they have the best Engineering school in the state. I chose to transfer because of personal reasons. Btw, I grew up an FSU fan and wore my FSU shirt to the UF-Miami game while I attended UF that year. Nothing happened to me. It's not the freaking end of the world. Anyway, after I transfered here it took me awhile to come around to being a bulls fan. I've since stopped wearing FSU stuff ON CAMPUS, but there is no reason I can't support FSU when I want to. It's a free country. There is no harm there. FSU has some good programs such as journalism and dancing, but most people will know it is the football and perhaps basketball team I am supporting when I wear the shirt. I have friends that wear shirts from random schools all the time (not even in FL, just shirts they have collected). I really don't see what a big deal it is. My room has a combo of FSU and USF stuff. When I went to the FSU-NC State game 2 years ago I wore my FSU shirt. When USF played NC State that same year I wore my USF shirt. Kinda sucked that both FSU and USF lost to NC State that year, but what ya gonna do? Well, hate NC State, but that's another topic. Anyway, if USF and FSU played of course I'd wear my USF shirt. I don't think you guys would know I'm a fan of FSU besides these topics about being fans of other schools. Most people are bandwagon fans. It's just the nature of sports. It's not a big deal. If we get more support, what do you care if they also like another school? If I went to EVERY home football game last year, some basketball games, and some women's basketball games, what do you care if I'm going? I think some of you need to calm down. I'd like to point out that supporting the team you grew up supporting is the OPPOSITE of being a bandwagon fan. It's also natural to support the school you go to, but I'll take anyone that will support USF, regardless if they still have a #2 team.
16. Looks to me like they all say they are confident in our AD but are worried since so far our top choices have turned us down. How is that not a realistic stance? It's not complaining, it's legitimate concern. Concern that Greg and Brett show but you seem to have a problem with. I'm still hopeful but it's never good news when your top choices decline your program. Hopefully Stan, formerly at Arkansas, gets an offer he can't refuse. I'm a little concerned with his coaching ability considering his ability as a recruiter, but it's not his fault that 1 of those 5-star recruits he had went pro before he played for Arkansas (Al Jefferson). With the new 1-year rule in place his great recruiting could really be useful. He had the 14th ranked class last year and made the tournament 2 years in a row. Hopefully, now that the players must go to college at least 1 year, he'll be able to recruit some of those guys again. Probably starting next year, though, since most people are taken now.
17. Did that cost money? I go into hibernation making my bracket and I can't keep track of all the places that have them. Turns out facebook did too. Anyway, if there was a group average worry I'm sorry I didn't enter with my 28 correct picks so far. Didn't lose a sweet-16 team yet, either. I'm sure something crazy will happen still, though. Good luck, everybody.
18. Thanks, HaulingBull......that's what I thought. Yeah, um, windbane, so what was your point about Amarri & the bowl game? :nosemax i think this was about after the game amarri coming into the stands and leading the band. Yeah, well, we've got a band director already. I am not arguing with any of you guys who are accentuating Amarri's pluses. I think he can be a key contributor. I still say he could be better, though. All I'm saying is that Windbane's point is crappy. you are the one with the crappy point. you like to come to this board and criticize a player that caught the only passing TD in the our first bowl win. nice job! the main point was indeed the directing the band thing. he seems like a great guy and certainly a lot more fun than you. teams need those kind of people. He's also the cousin of Mike Ford who probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Amarri telling him it's a great school, so maybe you'll like Mike Ford more. Amarri has made some great catches. Everyone on the team "could be better," but they are certainly contributing positively despite not being up to your standards, huh?
19. geez guys. Facebook status as news? I'd immediately assume that was a joke. I have not the words to describe how idiotic you sound reacting to this "news." You obviously were not at the bowl game.
20. Drexel is only a #3 seed in the NIT, and FSU beat Clemson the last game of the season in the ACC Tourney and are a #2 seed to Clemson's #1 seed. They might as well throw out experts when it comes to the NIT. It just looks like they pick bubble teams out of a hat after the main tourney is filled.
21. awesome. need some depth at DE. RB is fascinating right now.
22. And it was great. Sure beats being the bottom of the BE. I disagree. I'd rather be in the big east, knowing that WHEN we make a tourney we'll be a 12 seed or higher. Our women's team is projected to be a 10 seed. I wonder if Gonzaga and/or Memphis will ever leave their conferences, though. I have to hope they win every year so my 2nd team has a chance to get in. Same thing with Butler this year and they lost to Wright State.
