  1. STK goes down more than an overworked Tijuana hooker.
  2. Keep dreaming....simply changing the manager is going to miraculously change this program overnight. We still have a stadium problem...
  3. Morsanis Give $10 Million To USF Health, Athletics By ADAM EMERSONand BRETT McMURPHY The Tampa Tribune Published: Jun 2, 2006 TAMPA - As the medical school grew and a national spotlight shined on the football program, Frank Morsani considered making another donation to the University of South Florida. That was a year ago. He told his wife, Carol, that it was time. They talked about $5 million. Soon they realized, though, that their hopes were even bigger than that - hopes for an innovative program that could help turn around a national health care crisis, hopes for staying competitive in the big time Big East conference. Five million dollars, Morsani decided, was not enough. On Thursday, at a meeting of the USF Board of Trustees, the Tampa philanthropist officially announced that he and his wife will donate $10 million to USF and lead a new fundraising effort for USF Health. New outpatient clinics called the Centers for Advanced Health Care will receive $7 million. The remaining $3 million will go toward new football practice fields and a new softball stadium, the largest single gift ever to USF Athletics. In addition, the state will match the donation to the medical school, making the total gift worth $17 million. Just A Mechanic At 75, Morsani remains modest about his philanthropy. The automobile dealer made headlines 10 years ago with an $8 million gift to the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. He donated $1 million to USF's football program when it launched in 1997, and recently donated $1 million to the medical school. USF President Judy Genshaft said Thursday that Morsani likes to refer to himself as just an auto mechanic. "Some mechanic," Genshaft said. The Morsanis "have figured out that health care is broken," Genshaft said, and their donation proposes a fix. The gift to the Centers for Advanced Health Care will boost a program in which health professionals will work as teams instead of separate specialty groups. "Doctors will learn from nurses, and nurses will learn from doctors," College of Medicine Dean Stephen Klasko said. The $64 million center, which will stand six stories tall, is set to open in December 2007. Each building will bear the Morsani name. The $3 million athletics gift will go toward a new $4 million softball stadium and new $2 million football practice fields, which will be named the Frank Morsani Football Practice Complex. USF Athletics Director Doug Woolard said the remaining $3 million must be raised before the projects can be completed. "This is certainly a great first step," Woolard said. "This is the catalyst for it." With the football practice fields being built on the site of the old softball stadium, Woolard said it's possible the softball team would have to play off campus one season while the new stadium, with a seating capacity between 800 and 1,000, is being completed. Recruitment Boost "What a difference this will make," said USF softball coach Ken Eriksen, who has led the Bulls to seven NCAA Tournaments in 10 seasons. "Instead of having to avoid showing recruits where we play, it will be nice to show them the new stadium." Added USF freshman pitcher Cristi Ecks, "It puts your school out there. You can host [the NCAA] regionals and it really helps the school out a lot." The athletics gift also will go toward a 100-yard artificial turf field at the track stadium that the football team and other USF teams can use when preparing for away games on artificial turf. "The Morsanis are very giving people," USF football coach Jim Leavitt said. "The thing that can be the most important is by Frank and Carol leading by example, we need to have other people do this. That is critical." Tuition Increases In other action at Thursday's trustees meeting: &bullThe board voted to raise tuition for resident undergraduate and graduate students by 3 percent. The increase for undergraduate students, the smallest increase in years, was mandated by the Florida Legislature. There is no increase for out-of-state students. &bullThe board elected new officers. Trustee Rhea Law, president and chief executive of the Fowler White Boggs Banker law firm in Tampa, will serve as board chairwoman. Law formerly was vice chair, a position now held by Trustee John Ramil, president and chief operating officer of TECO Energy Inc. Law replaces real estate developer **** Beard, who has been chairman since the board's inception in July 2001. Beard will remain as a trustee. 4. Prado is the guy I have been touting for a couple of years. Seems like a natural fit.
  5. Now that would funny.... I am sure we can get a decent price for the Pirate Ship from our old friends at ECU.
  6. Describe your typical tailgate party... Tents? generators? gas? Charcoal? Tent? TV? Satellite? Pork or beef ribs? adult beverages of choice? largest gathering? pictures? road game tailgating?
  7. Is smazza still going streaking? Let us know so I can warn the kids...
  8. Road to Nowhere Well we know where were goin But we dont know where weve been And we know what were knowin But we cant say what weve seen And were not little children And we know what we want And the future is certain Give us time to work it out Were on a road to nowhere Come on inside Takin that ride to nowhere Well take that ride Im feelin okay this mornin And you know, Were on the road to paradise Here we go, here we go Chorus Maybe you wonder where you are I dont care Here is where time is on our side Take you there...take you there Were on a road to nowhere Were on a road to nowhere Were on a road to nowhere Theres a city in my mind Come along and take that ride And its all right, baby, its all right And its very far away But its growing day by day And its all right, baby, its all right They can tell you what to do But theyll make a fool of you And its all right, baby, its all right Were on a road to nowhere
  9. notice that there isn't a wallpaper for the Offense
  10. Perhaps there is a natural bias toward players that were around when you were an undergrad. That is certainly the case for most of my players, except BB, Reggie and Altron. Bradley was a great player for USF but I have never seen him play.
  11. ....of all-time, would anyone from CRM's era make that list? How about a top 10? My personal list would be: 1a. Radenko Dobras 1b. Chucky Atkins 3. Fred Lewis 4. Bobby Russell 5. Hakim Shahid 6. Darrel Coleman 7. Reggie Kohn 8. BB Waldon 9. Altron Jackson 10. James Harper I like B-Mo and SoJo, but it's been really hard to make a connection with CRM's players and program.
  12. If someone asked you in the beginning of the year: who has a better chance to get drafted in the respective sport: Andre Hall or Solomon Jones, who honestly would have voted for Solomon? Many of the draft sites around the 'Net have Jones being drafted in the second round. If he has a good showing in Orlando, some publications are saying he could go in the late first round.
  13. I get a kick every time I read about UCF having a better recruiting class. You have nothing to base this on. Most of our signees will make it to camp and the majority of these kids had other BCS offers. If look at who was recruiting many of UCF's recruits the athletes on paper don't measure up. However feel free to continue your spin class...
  14. Miami >>>>> Texas Yet the 'Canes are visiting RJS on equal terms. Was FSU a laughing stock despite limping into their bowl game? You can't have both ways. If you think that FSU doesn't deserve to get knocked b/c they play inthe ACC then you can't knock the teams that beat FSU such as NC State. USF played NC State very well and if USF had a little QB play we would have beaten the team that beat the ACC champion.
  15. Streaming video of the game is available for free : http://allaccess.cstv.com/media/index.jsp
  16. WTF......KL would pay to see grown men take off their clothes? ;D
  17. thanks for the laugh. That alabama team was terrible and finished 3-8 and they fired their coach immediately after losing to comedy central. Got BCS?
  18. The truth that hurts you guys is that we don't play 5 sisters of the poor. I'll give you that McNeese State and UCF won't do anything for our national rep, but beating average UNC and Kansas teams says that we are better than average. Don't forget, UNC recently beat UM and Kansas played in bowl game last year. So these are exactly chump teams. If USF gets through the back end of the schedule in what should likely be two Top 25 teams in UL and WVU, that will get us all the publicity we need. you are once again undervaluing the worth of playing in a BCS conference.
  19. While I conceed that playing UCF does nothing for our strength of schedule, UNC and Kansas play some heavy duty opponents in their conference thus their SOS could actually help USF. Similarly, having TWO Top 15 teams collectively helps every Big East's school SOS. Furthermore, if you are a one loss BCS team by the end of October you are definitely getting ranked, just from the sheer fact that teams like TCU got ranked by playing a cream puff MWC schedule. The bottom line is that the schedule is there for USF to make a good run. If we win conference we go to the BCS, doesn't get any easier than that.
  20. do you have rocks in your head? Andre Hall!!! He was a JUCO All American and turned down several Big 12 schools to attend USF. As far as Carlton Hill, give the kid time. Twenty snaps from center doesn't make or break a QB.
  21. You don't get it! Read what Bien wrote again! We could play 4 sisters of the poor but if we win the BE, USF goes to the BCS. Much like a 4 loss F$U team went to the BCS this past year. You guys are still looking at things as if the BigEast's automatic BCS bid is going to go away. That is simply not going to happen, and any question was removed with WVU demolishing the SEC champion. BTW, one of the reasons UCF never took advantage of it's up-and-coming tag it earned back in the late 1990s was b/c you overscheduled. USF fans warned you about the perils of over scheduling but you told us "we know better." HA! Out of the 27 BCS games you played you have only won 1 game. All the close games don't mean a thing if you don't win. All those games did nothing for your program, yet here you are again, mortaging the future.
  22. If USF wants a place to grow this wouldn't be a bad acquisition. There are also a few universities such as the North Carolina State University that have a "split" campus. However, I think I remember reading that USF was going to buy or already purchased the land on the corner of Bruce B Downs and Fowler. Back in the early 1990s when there was talk about bring Tampa General to North Tampa this was the designated site for that relocation and there would have been a bridge connecting the campus. I think the goal today is to build a research park on that property, but perhaps there could be room for a stadium?
  23. For me the minimum buy-in for an OCS would be something like UL or UCONN has put together. It also has to be architectually interesting so as to become a signature building on campus. It can't be a collection of steel girders that will become a rust bucket 25 years from now. USF has taken a build it right the first time approach to facilities so I trust this will continue with the stadium. However, IMO we need to increase our season tickets by at least 100% before this is a realistic project. If you look at the Tinmen, they are banking on having ~25K fans/game to break even. They have not averaged this figure over the last 5 years despite spending a ton on coaching and facilities. Does this figure include students who get in for free? What happens when they are forced to play CDOA games during the middle of week and get less than 20K fans? Or what if their teams tanks again. I would rather have 35-40K season tix at RJS and then make the transition to a 50K OCS.
