  1. It is too contrived to be judged. The trick plays scared the heck out of me until I realized it was more for the defense (hopefully) than the offense. In scrimmages it is too scripted to judge what we would do in certain circumstances.
  2. Steve, I don't think that I emphasized enough how good Ponton and the other running backs looks either. Ponton could be a real threat as he had flashes of Hall-esque running last night. Even my son, who rarely goes to the games picked it out on one run. I think we will remain a threat with the running game. If the passing game is good enough to distract the opposing defenses then we will be two dimensional enough that defenses will have to cover both threats -- something our opponents are not used to doing when facing us.
  3. I'm trying to remember back when I was 18 (over thirty years ago). I think we need: Girls in bikinis. No, Girls in bikinis pouring free beer. With ice water thrown on them. Yeah that's it: Girls in bikinis pouring free beer with ice water thrown on them. That's what we need to get students there. Now I just go to watch my team play football. God I wish I were 18 again... ;D
  4. I agree. What was horrible about tonight was the amount of snaps that were dirt or ankle high. Our QB's will not be able to get a rhythm from the shotgun if they have to pick the ball up from the ground before looking up and passing. And the kicking game was as bad as you say.
  5. I just posted this in another thread: My impressions of the QB situation from the game tonight: 1. No surprise with Justmissed -- He was kicking up dirt again with his passes, although he was awesome as a blocker on one running play 2. Hill looked better than I though he would. Don't want to like him over Matt, but he has a rocket arm. 3. Yeah, so Grothe threw the int's -- he was looking real good otherwise. And I agree with what others have said about his arm strength. Hill has a much harder throw, although Grothe did hook up with a couple of medium-long passes. I still like him best, if he can shake that interception thing. 4. Who is this Serverino? He looked better than his ranking among these quarterbacks. He also got a good amount of play time. From what I saw tonight, there is no reason to go with justmissed as our starting qb. He also looks a lot heavier than I remember and more than the 220 he was listed at.

  7. Cyber, I will be going to the Kansas game also, as I will already be there. My daughter's due date is Sept. 16th and we are staying a couple of weeks. Someone, PLEASE video our annual ass whooping of UCF for the rest of us who can't make it! I know it is more important to be with my daughter at that time, although it IS a close call...
  8. >>Mark my words. Pat will be the starting QB by game 3. While he had tough spots last year his improvement from year 2 to year 3 was dramatic.<< I can think of nothing that could be said that would give more comfort and aid to the enemy. They will all be starting their second strings against us if that is the case. Grothe is going to outshine the others to the extent that it will be too obvious to keep him out. With two threats (Grothe and Ponton) we will excel.
  9. I have had a good feeling about Matt since we landed him. I think he may well be the next Blackwell and this team is going to take off with him providing a second dimension. I hope the many dropped passes we experienced up to now were a result of passes delivered in less than optimum position for the receiver. I am psyched about Ponton and think that with Hall gone, he will the chance to flourish. Great year coming, I'm tellin' ya.
  10. It's OK, don't worry. I got my Master's there in I/O Psych. Just do what I do -- lie about it! *G* Go Bulls!!
  11. You have to admit it though -- It took cajones to admit it on this board!  USF asked me to consider the PhD program there, but wouldn't let me work for the first two years.  Since I as already thirty something with two kids and a mortgage, that wasn't an option. I am green and gold all the way.  I just finished beating UCF 77-17 on PS2.  God that feels good!  The bummer is that I will be in Kansas while my daughter gives birth when our second annual "Beatdown of Mousetown" takes place.  The good thing is that I will still be in Kansas the next week for our AWAY GAME!!! Good luck on the PhD thing. When you finish, I understand that there are ways to change the diploma to a school that can play football. Say, Rice Maybe???
  12. BA in Psychology Ms in Industrial/Organizational Psychology - UCF :-[
  13. You never took Psych 101? Behavior which is rewarded tends to be repeated.
  14. Steve, I really believe that we will do great next year.  I am psyched about Ponton.  He always had to run in Hall's shadow, but now he has the limelight. We have some untried (largely) QB's who I believe will seriously be contending for the position.  I don't think next year's QB slot is being handed to one person, despite what some people think.  There should be a true contest for it. Now if we come up with an aerial threat, our opponents will have to deal with a balanced team -- something we haven't had in a long time.  With the schedule coming up, we could really rock.  The possibility of being ranked in the top 25 is a reality. I know that I am an optimist and get really excited about this team.  That doesn’t make me naïve.  Just easier to be around. ;D
  15. 1. College - Used to be Seminoles, but Bulls all the way now 2. NBA - Don't watch it 3. MLB - Yankees (I grew up on Long Island). I wish the DRays would give me a reason to root for them... 4. NFL - Patriots!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Great article. We will be included in a similar one next year. This year we don't deserve it. In fact, next year's artiicle will be dropping Pitt and Louisville because we will have beaten both.
  17. Luckily we have the DVD's of the Beatdown of Mousetown and our bowl game. It is getting me through the jonseing until the real thing.
  18. What a blessing! Get ready, today you have the least amount of responsibility that you will have for the rest of your life. It is the toughest job that you would never give up for anything!
  19. They rose to the occasion. I flipped it on when it was 45-42. I was freaked! Excellent game -- a lot better than I and apparently most here thought. Good job, team!
  20. Maybe you were engaging in a bit of hyperbole, but I have never called for Leavitt's head. I appreciate the enormous success that he has brought to our program and I don't think I could do better. This is a passion and patience issue. I love the passion of the fans here, but their patience needs to develop. We are wanting to be big time so badly that we don't want to wait for it. It could be Leavitt's fault in that he falsely taught us that unexpected success does not have to be something we have to wait for. I guess I could fault him for that. We'll get there. But I am proud of where we have been and who led us there.
  21. This is one smazza post I am going to have to agree with, although I find it hard to blame a kid who is chasing his dream.  Blame the coaches, recruiters, whatever.  But this kid is chasing a dream that most of us never had a chance of realizing.  The coaches have to realize when it is time to switch him to another position.  It is not up to players to take themselves out.  I bet he is a nice kid.  But we need another quarterback. I think many of us are so frustrated because, really, except for quarterback, we have had a good team that could throw down with the best of them.  Get that position fixed and we will be giant killers.
  22. section 114. It is my first year with ST, so I don't have any advice for you.
