  1. All things considered, we have to feel pretty good. A solid core returns and our entire recruiting class is intact unless Garabitos takes 25th round money just to go pro. We should be able to stay competitive and not bottom out - which was a real possibility.
  2. We're into the 30th round with no more damage. Billy Mohl has to be feeling pretty good right now. Seems to me like Montes is the only surprise.
  3. Pablo Garabitos is the first in the class to be drafted - end of the 25th round, 755 overall to the Brewers
  4. Signee Pablo Garabitos is the first in the class to be picked - end of the 25th round, 755 overall to the Brewers.
  5. Can't say I know the class inside and out, but we're into Round 23 now and if we keep our entire recruiting class and only lose Shane, AP, Villar and Coco, we're going to be fine next year.
  6. Did some research on the recruiting class and there is help on the way. Looks like P Justin Stewart of Bartow and OF Brandon Schrepf from Gulf Breeze both expected to be drafted on the second day - and weren't. They could go today and still sign, but we may keep both.
  7. Brandon Schrepf: https://www.pnj.com/story/sports/high-school/baseball/2018/06/04/usf-signee-brandon-schrepf-expects-selected-during-mlb-draft/670998002/ Justin Stewart: http://www.theledger.com/sports/20180603/3-polk-prep-players-expected-to-be-selected-in-mlb-draft
  8. Coffaro is obviously a walk-on. With the transfer guard not listed, I count 12 scholarship players.
  9. If you're right and Shane and AP are the only non-seniors who don't return, it's on Mohl to bring in a couple of game-ready arms and this team is right back in it.
  10. I gotta believe Perez, Villar and Genord are locks to sign pro. If we keep Chatfield, Montes, Dietrich, Phillips, Dutka then there's at least a base to work with for next year that won't require a complete rebuild. That may be the best case scenario.
  11. We did. Men's golf was good enough to advance. You don't believe we had the talent and experience to win the two football games we lost and go unbeaten? You don't think women's hoops was capable of beating UBuffalo after playing within 10 points of the eventual national champion (Notre Dame) and routing Ohio State? Baseball took a game from UNC, won 2-3 from ECU, was one decent relief effort from beating UF, but was only good enough to squeak out an 11-inning win in a regional against a Hartford team that finished its season FIVE GAMES UNDER .500? The opportunities were there. We didn't take it.
  12. We got one decent season out of each of those guys and two of the three were a DI transfer and a JUCO. That's not how you build a program. McCullum won 14 games in 04-05 (the year he doubled his win total) with Terrence Leather, Brian Swift and Marlyn Bryant - his top three scorers, all of whom he inherited from Seth Greenberg. How about James Holmes, Solomon Bozeman, Temi Alaka, Dante Curry, Melvin Buckley, Aris Williams, Frane Markusovic, Montavious Waters, Marius Prekevicius, Collin Dennis and the never-ending parade of completely forgettable players he signed? He was a flat-out lousy hire. I can't believe you want to debate that. He showed no signs that he was capable in that job. He was hired by LRS after never finishing higher than third in the Mid-American, went 10-54 in conference and 36 games under .500 overall at USF, and 9-25 last year in his first as head coach at FAMU.
  13. We surely have a lot to be proud of. We had a lot of teams put together really good seasons this year - football, baseball, women's basketball, men's golf, softball, etc. The problem is, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM fell flat when the really bright lights came on. We had the talent and experience - especially in football, women's hoops, men's golf and baseball - to be more. None of them got it done in big games or in the postseason when it really mattered. That's the truly disappointing theme to this year.
  14. He was an absolute disaster. Other than DoJo, he didn't recruit one decent player - just JUCO retreads.
  15. The A.D. has to be able to do more in order to run an athletic department properly. We all loved Lee Roy, but he made one hire during his tenure - Robert McCullum. I can't forgive him for that one.
  16. He hasn't been an AD, but he's better prepared than Lee Roy was and definitely better prepared than another name being thrown around - Derrick Brooks
  17. I'll say it again - Rob Higgins. He's a no-brainer. Young but proven. USF guy. Well-liked and connected in the Tampa Bay Area. Exactly what the doctor ordered. I know him from his days as the basketball team manager under Seth.Fantastic guy. Driven but calm. Why bring in an outsider? Just like we one day need a football alum to come back and be our head coach, this is perfect synergy.
  18. If we can get him, this is our cat: http://www.tampabaysports.org/information/archive_news/2013/pressTBTHiggins060913
  19. Ho-hum. Just another year. Well, at least we have a team capable of reaching the NCAA Tournament. It beats the long drought before Kingston arrived. That said, it did seem like the stars were aligned. For years, I've been bemoaning, "If only we didn't have to play at UF, FSU or UM in every regional!" Made no difference. When the lights are the brightest, we always melt.
  20. I missed one. USF actually signed FOUR of the area's Players of the Year, including girls track's Karen Lyvers of Lakewood Ranch High. She won state pole vault and also was a top hurdler.
  21. I got to cover USF sports for almost a decade, traveled with teams, etc. and there were so many great athletes and coaches. But I was always even more impressed with them as people. We should be very proud of how the vast majority of our student-athletes represented - and still represent - our beloved university. When my daughter recently chose USF to continue her studies, I reached out to a bunch of coaches and former student-athletes that I've come to know and asked them if they would write her a brief "congrats" email. You absolutely wouldn't believe what she received from them! Messages that were thoughtful, articulate, and filled with Green & Gold pride. It kind of took my love for the university to a different level. GO BULLS!
  22. For the record: SEVEN NCAA Tournament bids in 10 seasons from 1993-2002 . . . nothing since.
