  1. He hasn't been an AD, but he's better prepared than Lee Roy was and definitely better prepared than another name being thrown around - Derrick Brooks
  2. I'll say it again - Rob Higgins. He's a no-brainer. Young but proven. USF guy. Well-liked and connected in the Tampa Bay Area. Exactly what the doctor ordered. I know him from his days as the basketball team manager under Seth.Fantastic guy. Driven but calm. Why bring in an outsider? Just like we one day need a football alum to come back and be our head coach, this is perfect synergy.
  3. If we can get him, this is our cat: http://www.tampabaysports.org/information/archive_news/2013/pressTBTHiggins060913
  4. Ho-hum. Just another year. Well, at least we have a team capable of reaching the NCAA Tournament. It beats the long drought before Kingston arrived. That said, it did seem like the stars were aligned. For years, I've been bemoaning, "If only we didn't have to play at UF, FSU or UM in every regional!" Made no difference. When the lights are the brightest, we always melt.
  5. I missed one. USF actually signed FOUR of the area's Players of the Year, including girls track's Karen Lyvers of Lakewood Ranch High. She won state pole vault and also was a top hurdler.
  6. I got to cover USF sports for almost a decade, traveled with teams, etc. and there were so many great athletes and coaches. But I was always even more impressed with them as people. We should be very proud of how the vast majority of our student-athletes represented - and still represent - our beloved university. When my daughter recently chose USF to continue her studies, I reached out to a bunch of coaches and former student-athletes that I've come to know and asked them if they would write her a brief "congrats" email. You absolutely wouldn't believe what she received from them! Messages that were thoughtful, articulate, and filled with Green & Gold pride. It kind of took my love for the university to a different level. GO BULLS!
  7. For the record: SEVEN NCAA Tournament bids in 10 seasons from 1993-2002 . . . nothing since.
  8. "Recognized" as what? Our volleyball program used to be very good - a regular in the NCAA Tournament - but that seems like a long time ago. What happened there?
  9. I'm about to learn - through my daughter's upcoming experience - what the university does to indoctrinate its students from Day One to create brand loyalty as Bulls. I'm VERY interested to see if they make it a priority from the start. To me, this is how things change over time. Pride creation. The communication has been very good throughout the enrollment process, but I've already seen missed opportunities to add a personal touch and that "something extra." My daughter was accepted to several other schools. Although USF's offer was the best, Davidson definitely caught my eye with the way their admissions department made very personal communications. Granted, they are dealing with a much smaller group of admits than USF.
  10. Not forgetting, just would rather take my chances vs. them than UF or FSU.
  11. My daughter throws up the bulls horns yesterday at her graduation from Saint Stephen's Episcopal School in Bradenton. She starts at USF in the fall in the Honors College as a Provost Scholar. So proud of her, AND her SAT/ACT scores offset the entire football signing class this year.
  12. You'll all recognize the speaker/special guest, but 3 USF signees were named players of the year this week at Sarasota Herald-Tibune banquet. Chosen from preps from Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and Desoto counties. Venice's Tyrone Barber was Football Defensive POY, Port Charlotte's Devin Leacock (check out the old-school robobull vest!) was Weightlifter of the Year, and Lakewood Ranch pitcher Pablo Garribitos was Baseball POY.
  13. That's about as good a Day Two as you can possibly have. Two pitchers used. Bats blazing. Second game shortened. WOW! Go Bulls!
  14. Now that's a job, Collin Sullivan! GO BULLS!
  15. So they go 13-0 after back-to-back seasons of 6-7 and 0-12 and now they're God's gift to football and are on par with programs that can pick and choose who to schedule? I guess they forget that two seasons before they went 0-12, they were 12-1. Things can - and do - turn quickly. It's all about the QB position. In the college game, if you have a good one who can make plays (Bortles/Milton) you win. If you don't . . . you're 0-12. Let's see what happens after Milton. They'll be in the same spot we are right now after Flowers - wondering if the next guy can get it done.
  16. Looks like we're out for this guy: https://www.minerrush.com/2018/5/16/17362450/utep-makes-final-three-list-for-njit-transfer-anthony-tarke
  17. McClanahan didn't make all-conference teams, maybe that serves as some extra motivation.
  18. Are we allowed to believe that Brian Gregory can turn this thing around?
  19. We're a program that should be in a regional nearly every year. I'm not that concerned with the AAC. Conference accolades are fine, but it's all about what you're doing to win a regional and super regional, and we're not doing it with this pitching staff. After 14 or however many trips, it's time for us to win a regional. It has to be about more than just getting there at this point.
  20. We'll take the W, but the past 7 games - 11, 17, 6, 9, 10, 6, 8 = 67 runs allowed!
