Trust fund started for injured Hixon By MIKE ORGAN Staff Writer While Tennessee Tech football player Drew Hixon continues a steady recovery after suffering a hit in a game that left him in a coma, a trust fund has been established to help cover his medical costs. Hixon, a wide receiver, suffered a serious brain injury in the collision that took place during a game on Sept. 11 at South Florida. He came out of a medically induced coma earlier this month and is undergoing therapy at the University of Virginia Children's Hospital in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit of the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center. ''Drew is making progress daily,'' Tennessee Tech athletic trainer David Green said. ''He is now talking, eating and participating in an intensive rehab therapy program that includes not only physical, occupational and speech therapy, but also aquatics therapy and therapeutic recreation.'' Hixon's father, Stan said, cards and letters of support continue to pour in from Tech fans. ''We're happy with the progress that he's made, but he still has a long way to go,'' Stan Hixon said. ''Our family is so thankful and appreciative for all of the support that people have given Drew.'' Donations for the trust fund can be sent to: The Kenneth Drew Hixon Trust Fund, Bank of America, 8300 Greensboro, Suite 500, McLean, Va. 22102.
