  1. I don't know what's more vomit-inducing: UCF fans claiming they didn't want the game to be played, or USF fans claiming they did. Anyway, before USF's football program started in 1997, there was an article in the Orlando Sentinel about USF football. It contained the line "UCF offered the Bulls an immediate game, but USF wisely refused." It may have been "SOUTH FLORIDA READY TO RUMBLE THE TAMPA AREA HASN'T HAD FOOTBALL SINCE 1974, BUT A NEW GENERATION IS EAGER TO MAKE ITS MARK." by Mark Didtler, Special To The Sentinel; Orlando Sentinel; Aug 14, 1997; pg. C.8. But I'm not 100% certain. I can't find the exact article in the orlandosentinel.com archives, and I'm not going to pay for the full text to make this point. Take my word for it.
  2. Post deleted for duplicating Kizar's research. Only thing I have to add is that UCF beat a 6-6 Louisiana Tech team in 1998.
  3. I was following it on ESPN game tracker. At halftime the penalty rate was acceptably low, something like 4 for 30 yards.
  4. My guess is that FAMU won the toss and opted to "kick off" rather than "defer". In the NFL, if you choose to kick off the first half, you receive the second half. In college, if you choose to kick off the first half, the other team still gets a choice in the second half, and of course they choose to receive. I've seen this happen before.
  5. Funny line from the Pitt board: "Did anyone see Tyler Palko on The 4400. I think he was abducted."
  6. Ohio isn't even playing that well. The stops they've been getting were because Wannstedt's stoopid play call ran right into the defense. I mean, 4th-and-3 and they call a slow-developing pitch play that Ohio's pokey defense has all day to react to? Two minute drill, and they call the same dumpoff pass six times in a row? Twenty seconds to go and they call an inside handoff with no timeouts left? Geez. And Palko looks like Pat Julmiste against Louisville.
  7. Let's see, Dave Wannstedt vs Frank Solich. I know who my money's on. Pitt better have a huge talent edge, for its own sake.
  8. I can't cut and paste for some reason, but check new Brett McMurphy story at bulls.tbo.com
  9. That is a good point. Remember the state university system's co-opting of New College, and attempts to co-opt programs at USF-St. Pete.
  10. It was maybe 6000. And a bunch of them were Okla State fans. Very sad. And by the way, the fact that this game was on opposite Monday Night Football is proof that ESPN/ABC saw it as a low-interest game. You'd never see a high-interest college game on ESPN the same time a pro game is on ABC. Networks don't like to compete against themselves for viewers.
  11. You know, when I was in college, I once got a 0 grade on a journalism class assignment because I referred to a local theatrical group as "Soandso Theater" when their official name was "Soandso Theatre." This was considered a fact error. Then I'd open the Oracle, and see stuff like this. It's mystifying.
  12. Isn't DeAndrew Rubin on the Bucs' practice squad?
  13. You're assuming that USF will put this game away early. There is no reason to assume that. USF didn't exactly blow out Tennessee Tech last year. Julmiste has earned the starting job for the moment. Let's see if he can put two good games together. If we get ahead, I would like to see Denson and Hill get some series at QB. I think Grothe is redshirting.
  14. ET, I am devastated to hear this. I will keep you in my thoughts.
  15. The Florida-Florida State rivalry does not have a name or a trophy. The Miami-Florida State rivalry does not have a name or a trophy. The Miami-Florida rivalry does not have a name or a trophy. The Florida-Tennessee rivalry does not have a name or a trophy. Regardless of whether or not this game becomes a rivalry, can we at least skip the lame contrived trophy? It certainly isn't necessary.
  16. Greg Robinson was another questionable head-coaching hire. Way back in 2003 he was the laughingstock of the NFL.
  17. Actually, FAU threatened to sue the NCAA over the I-A requirements if they weren't allowed to move up.
  18. FAU has a pretty good QB in Embick. I like his athleticism.
  19. God, I love this board. This has got to be the only place where fans of the same school would advocate joining the SEC and dropping to I-AA on the same thread. Say what you will about our fan base, but don't ever accuse us of being unduly neutral.
  20. If you do beat yourself, and it's not exciting, you're not trying very hard.
  21. Actually, there's a bigger anniversary coming up: the addition of the football program was approved by the USF Board of Regents on September 15, 1995. In nine days, we'll have had a football program for ten years.
  22. Could you introduce me to your friend? I'd like to shake his hand.
  23. Wasn't this game originally supposed to be played on Sept 10? Did it get changed due to the hurricane?
