Question.. Who could Strong get to come here to be OC? If you are an established OC at a lower level are you willing to come and work for a coach that may be fired next season? If you are an ambitious young OC with a bright mind for the game do you come here knowing that you may be handcuffed in the way you typically like to call a game and therefore make you look like a subpar play caller and mess up any chance you may have at moving upward to bigger school? I don't see no OC from a school comparable to USF doing a lateral move to call plays for Strong knowing he can be canned next season or knowing he will likely throw you under the bus to save himself. That leaves me with this, we can pretty much guess what type of play caller we will get this upcoming season, look for some position coach that has worked with Strong at some point in their career on the offensive side of the ball looking to make that jump to OC. I will officially say it probably won't be King, Strong already proved he is willing to stick with people from his camp. I need to look back at his staff at Texas and UL and we can probably have a good idea of whom it may be.

I have a suspicion that Gilbert wasn’t even the problem. I was all in on getting rid of Gilbert but watching the team last night, they looked exactly like they did the whole year. I am afraid that this move brought Strong another two years because he can always say I had to get the players to fit my new OC scheme. The AD need to look no further then Texas to see Strong did the exact same thing. He runs players off under the notion that he is getting rid of bad players, then he is left with no players to fill the gaps then it becomes an excuse “we need to get better players in here”. I mean he is doing the same exact thing to a T that he did at Texas, even his press conferences sound exactly the same. If he can’t get it done at the richest program in the nation what made our administration think he would get it done here with our limited resources.

Now more than ever we are at a point where the administration needs to show they are serious about football. This reminds me of a quote from Shawshank Redemption “Get busy living or get busy dying”. We need to make a decision, if football is what we want then fire Strong, invest in facilities and get busy living. I am tired of this measured cautious approach, USF be aggressive for once. Start a fund for this **** stadium and watch the donations pour in. Or if the administration is satisfied with status quo and winning 6-7 games a year as long as the coach is a like able fellow then kill the dam program. You think it’s bad now, if there is realignment and UCF makes the jump and we are left in a reshaped AAC playing the likes of N Texas, Arkansas State, Charlotte etc then it would be pointless to pay the rent for Ray Jay when it will be a ghost town. AD Kelly we are screaming out for you and the rest of the administration to step up and show that you care about USF football like we do.

This is what frustrates me about USF, the writing is on the wall but instead of doing what is needed we always have to be measured. We will be stuck with this train wreck for two more seasons, bring in a new coach and it will take them a couple seasons to get their personnel together. If there is any movement in realignment we will surely be left out. Football facilities aren’t great, we play in a cavernous stadium with a pirate ship. How in the hell can a school like FAU and UAB get stadiums and we can’t and UAB just got their program back after a shutdown amazes the hell out of me.

UF and other posters defending and congratulating USF for the willingness to take what UF offered and have a chance to beat UF on the field with three attempts to do it while UCF cries that UF won’t give them 1 for 1 because they are national champs and won 25 straight. To me this shows teams who may be in a position to vote on realignment that UCF will be difficult to deal with if they were to ever have the chance to be in a P5 Conference. I can promise you that although they are on a nice streak right now that if you polled UF and FSU and asked who they would rather share a conference with I am willing to beat they would both say USF.

It basically says that this stunt that UCF AD is pulling calling out UF for their 2-1 game request and constantly putting P5 teams on blast about not playing them will backfire. Says teams like USF and Houston are similar schools to UCF that when push comes to shove and there is expansion that UCF may not get the support of teams that matter because of their attitude.

As a USF alum I would love for USF to go in a different direction with the football coaching staff. But as a realist who has been around USF football for a while I know that USF will USF.. Charlie will at most get a new OC which will buy him the last 3 years of his contract. Next year I could see him using we have a new OC as a crutch to get a pass for next season. Then I could see him use the season after that to say we had to get the players in that fit the new OC system. The last year of his contract will be ...well the last year of his contract. At that point USF will cut ties with him 3 years to late and it will reflect in attendance and donors. Honestly the best thing we could hope for is for him to keep Gilbert that way at least next year with a full two years of his players and this system there won’t be any excuses when win 4 games. I may be wrong and VP Kelly cans him but seeing how proactive Houston, ECU and others are being while we hear silence from our admin is a bit concerned.

Coach Strong you pulling out all stops I see. Go take a nap, yes your hire was a bad hire. I hope AD Kelly cans you and if he don't then yeah he would probably need to be relieved of his duties as well. Texas gave us a two year trial period on their dime to see how you would work out, it would be financially irresponsible to pay you millions of dollars starting Jan 1for the product that you are putting out on the field.

I could careless what the college world thinks of USF canning jelly spine. USF needs to do what’s best for USF, we bring in a new guy and he start winning all will be forgotten.

Man there is a reason he has been to 3 different schools! He isn’t the answer, we need a qb with legit wheels and a pretty good arm ala Flowers/King.

emrober5 I looked Spavital up and he is indeed the type of young guy we need in here. Mix him and the Florida athletes together and you will have what Frost has at UCF . Now we need a DC that doesn’t play bend but don’t break defense, with a high powered offense you can afford to attack and gamble on defense. Our main objective would be to win a shootout anyway and if the D can get a takeaway here or there then that would be icing on the cake.

Who do you guys have in mind that would have a realistic shot at coming here? I think we should go the Taggart route again, get a young energetic coach from a smaller school that runs an explosive offense and let him make a name for himself. I don’t worry about them moving on in 3 or 4 years, that would just mean they absolutely killed it here. PLEASE do not go the retread route, I am tired of the Strong/Tubberville/O’Leary types where the game has passed them by and they have no desire to change with the times.

You don’t even have to leave Hillsborough county to find a QB. Just go and get the 5”10 QB that is running the spread that all the P5’s want to play WR or DB and you will have found your next Flowers

When he chose to punt on 4th and I with 10 mins left in the 4th qtr against a team that nobody excepted us to win anyway, I knew the game was over. They proceeded to score that next drive, that is what spineless coaching get you.

Man if Strong isn’t fired then I will question wether or not the VP is serious about fielding a competitive football team.
