Bulls Set Six, Top-10 All-Time Marks in Weekend Meets

Sophomore Bruce Robinson recorded the second-best hammer throw, and ninth-best shot put in program history

TAMPA, APRIL, 1, 2017 – The University of South Florida track and field team participated in the Texas Relays, the Florida Relays and the Bobcat Invitational.

Of the six top 10 program marks that the Bulls set, two were achieved by sophomore Bruce Robinson (Little Falls, N.Y.). His hammer throw distance of 187-3 at the Bobcat Invitational was the second-best all-time at USF. Robinson also registered a 49-4.5 distance in the shot put, ninth best in program history.

In his first competition of the outdoor season, senior Michael Babinec (Riverview, Fla.) ran the 3k steeplechase at the Florida Relays on Friday. His time of 9:01.87 ranks fourth in school history.

Sophomore Jada Massie (Bradenton, Fla.) ran the 100m dash at the Texas Relays in 11.60 seconds, just missing her personal best of 11.57. Sophomore Chelsea Francis (Jacksonville, Fla.) improved on the eighth-best time in program history with an 11.72 second run in the 100m dash.

  • Three of the Bulls’ six top 10 marks were tallied on Saturday at the Bobcat Invitational.

Notable

  • On Friday, senior Mira Carrozza (Pittsburgh) finished fourth at the Texas Relays with a distance of 144-11 in the women’s javelin. Sophomore David Bell (Jacksonville, Fla.) also came in fourth in the men’s pole vault (16-7.75).
  • During the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, senior Sophia Brown (Goshen, Ind.) and sophomore Nicole Carroll (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) both posted a 12-5.5 height in the pole vault. That total was tied for ninth-best in program history.

Next Up

The Bulls will compete in the Houston Invitational on April 8.
