First we're all over CNN for our research in the Gulf, and now CNN's coming to our place! Pretty sweet!

Washington (CNN) - Rick Scott, the Republican nominee for governor in Florida, accepted an invitation Wednesday from CNN and the St. Petersburg Times to appear at a debate one week before Election Day to discuss the critical issues facing the state.

Scott, a political outsider with deep pockets, defeated establishment favorite Bill McCollum for the GOP nomination last month. The debate is scheduled to take place on Oct. 25th at the University of South Florida in Tampa, one day after the three candidates for Florida's open U.S. Senate seat meet at a CNN/St. Petersburg Times debate at the university.

"Rick looks forward to debating the issues important to Floridians," Scott spokeswoman Jen Baker said in a statement released Wednesday.

CNN and the St. Petersburg Times invited Scott and the Democratic nominee, Alex Sink, last month to participate in the debate. Sink has not yet accepted the invitation. Sink is the chief financial officer of the State of Florida. CNN Chief National Correspondent John King will moderate the gubernatorial debate that is scheduled to air on his show, John King USA at 7 p.m. ET. CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley will moderate the Senate debate on Oct. 24 at 9 a.m. ET on her show, State of the Union.
