The national media in college consisted of **** Vitale, and others that probably wouldn't use nicknames like that on the air... he was not a superstar then, although he was outstanding.  I am pretty sure i've heard digger phelps say Rip during his college years, but not sure of anyone else.

i think I know. the fans appreciate bonds' accomplishments and want   to  see him continue to hit homers

explain why bonds is liked by the fans and voted to allstar game year after year.A cheater wouldn't have such fan support if what you are saying VG is true.Is my analysis wrong?

You must have missed the entire NCAA tournament and Final Four the year they won the championship, then. They were calling him Rip all the time.
