Grothe Returns To Practice, Says He's OK

TAMPA - After sitting out Monday's workout, University of South Florida QB Matt Grothe (right foot) returned to practice Tuesday in preparation for the Bulls' home finale against Syracuse.

Grothe left Saturday's win against Pittsburgh in the fourth quarter with a sprained right foot.

"It's all right. I just reaggravated it. It feels 10 times better than the last time I [injured it against Connecticut]," Grothe said. "I thought it was going to be worse. I was able to go back [in the game against UConn], but this time I couldn't even walk on it on the sidelines. So I thought it was going to be something extreme, but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be."

COMEDIC LINE: Maybe the reason Grothe seems so cool and collected on the field is because of how the offensive line keeps the team loose.

"The offensive line is a trip. It's like watching a comedy show," Grothe said. "I've never seen so many people so lax going into a game - always joking around, always having a good time. It helps the whole offense just because it'll calm you down."

RECRUITING UPDATE: Mayo Lafayette DE Darren Powe (6-foot-3, 230 pounds) verbally committed to USF

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
