TAMPA, Fla. (July 28, 2006) –University of South Florida head softball coach Ken Eriksen announced today that Aya Nakajima will join the top-25 ranked softball program starting in the 2007 season.

Nakajima will come to USF as a junior, transferring from Golden West Community College in Huntington Beach, Calif. She played in 2004, took a red-shirt season in 2005 due to an injury and returned in 2006. In 2004 she batted .350 and then improved to hit .360 on 2006. Nakajima earned second team all-conference honors in 2004 and 2006 and was named to the Golden West All-Tournament Team both years as well.

A native of Fukushima, Japan, she is a switch-hitter who will be looked upon to fill one of the five vacancies due to seniors graduating in 2006.

“Aya Nakajima will bring versatility to our program in the fact that she hits from both sides of the plate, she can run and she plays both the infield and outfield very well,†said Eriksen.

Nakajima becomes the 10th player to commit to join the Bulls for the 2007 season.
