pac 10

Recommended Posts

2000: UCLA-35 Bama-24...Bama ranked top 3

2001: UCLA-20 Bama-17

2003: Oregon- 42 Miss. St.- 34

2002: Oregon- 36 Miss. St.- 16

2002: USC-24  Auburn-17

2003: USC-23 Auburn-0...Auburn ranked pre-season #1 in a few polls...USC quickly showed who was more dominant

2005: USC-70 Arkansas-17

2004: LSU-32 Oregon St.-31...the OSU kicker lost this one more than LSU won...LSU was defending national champs and should've lost to Beavers in first title defense game

2005: LSU-35 Arizona St.-31...on a lucky hail mary

So, Pac 10 is 7-2 over the SEC in recent history. The SEC has inflated self-image. passion and tradition do not translate into wins. Pac 10 has been better when matched up head to head.

how many of those are against UF, UT, UGA, LSU?  the real teams of the SEC.  the only wins on there that mean anything are the USC wins over Auburn, but that is not a fair comparison since USC was one of the more dominant programs of that time

Two things Sam:

One of my favorite quotes "Should have won" was used by you. Some Examples:

Florida "Should have" beaten UT in basketball last night with that wide open layup

Oregon St "should have" beaten LSU in 2004

Indianapolis "should have" beaten Pittsburgh

Guess what!?! They didn't!

As for the "lucky" Hail Mary:

It was a 35 yard pass that was thrown accurately into the endzone. A Hail Mary is a prayer thrown to the Middle of the Endzone where your receivers bunch to get a tipped ball. JaMarcus Russell hit a wide open receiver on a fade route to the left of the endzone. Be it 2 weeks after surviving the worst natural disaster to hit our country in the last few decades, and deciding to move the game from LSU to ASU 5 days before the game...

Point being the SEC and Pac-10 don't have enough matchups to show strength of the conferences in head to head matchups. That 2000 "Top 3" Bama team was terrible and even lost to UCF, add that those Miss St teams and Arkansas this past season. The Pac 10 has played the bottom of the conference sans LSU and the 2002 Auburn team.

joe just pointing out it wasnt like the pac 10 team was slaughtered in defeat. pac 10 has held their own.

the SEC is a great conference, but people tend to overhype them. "best conference" is relative. acc has dominated peach bowl in recent years, a mediocre wisconsin team took out the hottest team in the sec this year in the cap-one, etc., etc. SEC is not beyond other conferences. people diss the pac 10 because it doesnt have the football culture of the south....they have the talent out there to compete well with the best. smazza is not being a west coast honk, he sees through hype and focuses on results.

rocky top, youll get a live view of pac 10 talent when cal drops in next year.
