I am posting this for the benefit of those who might be interested:

A decade has passed since the lights went out on the Southwest Conference, a fractious fraternity that for 81 years served as the state's showcase for some of the most glorious moments, most storied traditions and most disgusting behavior in college football. Blessed with influence, money and good timing, four SWC schools joined in the merger that created the powerful Big 12. Four others, vagabonds of realignment, began pursuits of lost glory that have grown almost whimsical over time. The Express-News offers this retrospective of how the SWC slipped into extinction, how the rich got richer and the poor were forced to punt.
