I agree with you completely. I wish more recruits and parents were more like you and your son. Unfortunately, most are like Aaron Lynch's mother. The brand name is worth more to them than anything else. The same goes for people who drive BMWs and look down on those who dont, even though their car may be just as functional and reliable as theirs. It is about perception.
I am not a fan of the SEC in the least. I do, however, observe and understand why the game is so heavily in their favor at the moment. It is unfortunate, but it is the way it is. It is up to schools like USF, Houston, BSU, etc(lol all BE schools) to make a statement and try to sell our product better and better and improve our teams and schools in all aspects. Think of it as the small business owner trying to be innovative in order to sway customers from the big name corporation down the road. The traditional ways of recruiting and winning are not our best weapons right now, because there are dozens of schools who do it better. We need to play to the desires and needs of young athletes in a new or different manner.
Boy, Trip, you are really clever with the font size and text color command. Did you have a point, or were you just practicing your coloring skills?
I believe he was pointing out that I made a conditional statement.
If Miami gets a 2 year bowl ban, a fine, loses a couple of scholarships, etc. I would be fine playing for UM. At least, I wouldnt hold it against them. I can still play football, we can still win games, and I can still gain some NFL value and playing time/experience.
If it were for all 4 years, for example, then it starts to become tricky because I would like to play for a bowl or championship at least once in my collegiate career. Just look at USC. One of the favorites for the National Championship coming off a 2 yr bowl ban. It doesnt always have to be a program killer.
I don't understand why you feel compelled to defend Miami in a procpects thread on the USF recruiting board?
I am not defending Miami itself. I would say the same thing about OSU, USC, hell even UCF. Any school besides Penn St at the moment. Their program will take a hard hit for a long time. The rest, mere bumps in the road in comparison. I am not trying to sway any recruit from coming here. Quite the opposite. I would encourage any and every aspiring young athlete to give USF a good, honest look, without the bias and nonsense from television and outside sources. Let them make their own opinions, similar to the way the Woulard family has.
These are not my beliefs, these are merely my observations of the world I live in. When I see it change I will adjust my feelings accordingly.
If a recruit is seriously going to overlook USF or change his mind from coming here because an anonymous poster on a message board said something realistic, then...
