Maybe they pushed to play him too soon? Second ACL tear on same knee would take a long time to heal properly, maybe a year.

Thanks, John! It's really good to see some progress. Makes it all feel more real.

It'll probably be a couple of weeks, but if/when I get something I'll post it.

Slightly OT, but does anyone know the policy/rules on drones on campus? I just picked up a DJI Mini SE (the one just under the weight requiring registration). I'd love to whiz around campus a bit, if it's allowed.

Facilities So where is the IPF located?
widerberg replied to E.T.'s topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
The IPF is gonna be a steel building, I would imagine. With a nice facade and some detail work inside. I would think that could be done in 8-9 months. But, who knows. -
Any word on Defensive Coordinator search?
widerberg replied to Peatearpan's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
I was wondering the same thing myself. -
I haven't seen anything on Twitter or the usual places. I wonder if there's even going to be a "we started!" announcement or if the heavy equipment just quietly shows up one day.

I think CJS will eventually get this thing into gear, but I agree that extending him now just has bad optics all over it. At least let him get to .500 on a season, or close to it, before extending, even if it's for no more money. If just looks bad to extend him now, even rationalizing COVID, etc. I can see the logic of offering bonus money, etc., but he's HC of a D1 football team, I wouldn't think he'd need a financial carrot to get things going. He's tarnishing his reputation, ruining his overall HC win/loss record, and making it harder to get a job in the future by failing. I'm pretty sure he's as motivated as he can be to do well here. I just hope whatever the missing pieces are, he's able to find them.

Yeah, I don't like that. Bad coaching/advising/parenting/something. I'd be suspicious of a kid who decommitted. Granted, it's not like trying to get out of a signed NLI, but still. You make a commitment and you stick with it. I do know the real world isn't like that, but it is what it is.

Skip Holtz out at Louisiana Tech

Get the whole band back together. -
I'm not a coach, so I'm not seeing it first hand. But, what I'm hearing locally and seeing on Twitter is that as schools lose to the portal they also backfill from the portal. Of course, high school recruiting is still happening, just not like it was even last year or in previous years and offers are coming much later in the process than in the past. We're still relatively early in the process for the c/o 2022 cycle, so it's not the end of the world. I was reading somewhere that something like 1000 more kids hit the portal this season than last. Maybe it'll be a great thing, and if it distributes talent better and gives kids an actual playing experience somewhere rather than a practice and bench riding experience, then that's a great thing. I'm just leery. I do hope it all works out, though, especially in USF's case.

Well, no. I was thinking more in terms of the kids. It's not college coaches complaining, it's the high school coaches who are trying to do right by their students who are not seeing anywhere near the normal number of college coach visits to their schools. As someone else mentioned, 4 and 5 star blue chip recruits aren't going to have an issue, although they may not get offers from the specific schools they want. But, all the other kids who are 1, 2, and 3 star, or no star or whatever. They're going to have a terrible time trying to find schools to play at. Some/many D1 kids will be going to D2 or NAIA schools and D2 or NAIA kids may get relegated to non-scholarship D3 schools. However it breaks down, it's going to mean the supply of incoming high school talent is going to get squeezed by JUCO or university kids hopping from program to program. It doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I know USF is pretty bare and picking from the portal is a good thing. But, it doesn't seem right to the kids coming up. This isn't the NFL. I don't think free agency in college is a good thing. I guess I'm old school. You play in high school, you get recruited, you get offered, you make a commitment to a school, and you finish your college career at that school. If things go really sideways, you either stick it out, transfer down to FCS or whatever and play right away, or you sit out a year and play next year.

I wonder how long the portal is going to be a thing. I've been seeing a lot of tweets from high school coaches and recruiting consultants over the last few months complaining that the portal is destroying high school recruiting and, in particular, c/o 2022. Long term, that's not sustainable.

Video Cincinnati Game Video
widerberg replied to python815's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
If you feel like posting it, I'm sure I'll watch. There will probably be a day that's going great and I'll want to knock it back a bit to not spoil myself. Watching the Tulane game then will do the trick, I'm sure. -

@python815 Did you happen to record the Tulane game? I had to miss that woodshed beatdown and I was hoping you'd have it. If you're gonna post it, thanks so much! If you didn't record it, probably even more thanks. LOL. -
Jeff Scott at 8/1 to be fired
widerberg replied to NewEnglandBull's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
I was on Team Keep CJS because I think USF needs stability. Now? I mean, can it get worse? If we go winless next year, does that even count as worse? How garbage is garbage before you don't even measure its level of garbage anymore? If we fire CJS and get someone else, I guess there's at least a chance of hitting the lottery and getting someone better/effective. I don't know. My heart says keep CJS, my brain says "why are you even watching anymore?" (and I didn't even get to watch the game). -
Jeff Scott at 8/1 to be fired
widerberg replied to NewEnglandBull's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
Yeah, I might be leaning in Puc's direction. I'm still scratching my head at what happened. On paper, our record, we suck. But, I really thought I was seeing tangible improvement, more energy and fire from the team, momentum building, etc. Then dropping the game to Tulane, with a score like that? Wow. I just have no idea how CJS could/would pull this program out of its nosedive anymore. Yeah, new recruits and transfers next year, Covid did us dirty and we lost practice and recruiting time last year and this year. All of that. But it seems like something else is fundamentally wrong. There's got to be some talent on this team right now. Enough talent to have put away this Tulane team. Also, spoiler: There's literally no way in the world we beat UCF next Friday. Short week, Thanksgiving in there, after this game today? Not. A. Single. Chance. So, I hope coach or MK or somebody works some magic in the offseason. This is bad. -
In Game The TBP Official In Game Thread: Bulls vs. Tulane
widerberg replied to Brad's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
Same. Honestly, I thought we had this one. I missed the game due to a funeral and I'm not even sure I want to watch the recording. I just don't understand what happened to the team. Looking at the box score, I'm just shaking my head. I don't get it. -
Jeff Scott at 8/1 to be fired
widerberg replied to NewEnglandBull's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
If CJS gets fired, we should just shut down football. We can't hit reset and then rebuild every 3 or 4 years. We'll never get anywhere. Whatever happens happens, but we need to let CJS and his process play out and hope for the best. Hopefully, admin gives him what he needs to succeed.- 137 replies

Have we hit rock bottom?
widerberg replied to sloan1919's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
It can always get worse. But, I do think this is bottom. -
After the homecoming non-announcement, I decided to just ignore all OCS stuff until something actually happens. I feel a lot better. I get enough up and down emotions from just watching the team, I decided I don't need it about OCS/facilities, too. I'm burying my head in the sand until something actually happens.

Feel Better or Worse since Sept 3?
widerberg replied to Brad's topic in USF South Florida Bulls Athletics
I'm going with somewhat better. We've improved, even if we don't win another game this year. The team looks like they have more energy and fire now and they've shown they don't fold when things go sideways. We may not win, but I see the effort.
