  1. First NFL head coach job, age 59. New England Patriots (Head coach, 1997–1999), New York Jets (Head coach, 1994–1994) Pete was a lousy head coach in the NFL - until he wasn't.
  2. This guy is a tool. Of course usf is going to deny everything until the ink is dry. What if this guy doesn't pass the background check?
  3. It sucks for this dude but what a screw up. Flying high one day and probably out of a job the next. If he is lucky maybe Hickory is looking to make another run and picks him up.
  4. can anyone just call up a school's registrar office and obtain anyone's records or does permission have to be granted by the individual? This. I don't think you can just run a background check on random people without their consent. So, how exactly would you confirm this before he was offered the job? My guess is that you would look at his resume, his bio at his current job, and, his bio at his previous job... all of which indicated that he graduated from UK with a communications degree. I really don't understand our "fans" that go way out of their way to assume that USF completely botched this. Your loyalty should be to your school, not some guy that lied on his resume and was reported to be the new coach for all of 7 hours yesterday. Orlando Bull - don't get in the way of their self loathing.
  5. As long as I didn't lie on my resume about getting my degree, yes.
  6. Maybe he just didn't complete his classes. Maybe he didn't go to class. Just a spiffball, but I'm sure it's very far out of the realm of possibility. If he just owes money for parking tickets I would agree. If he is a couple of classes short then he blew it big time.
  7. Did she lie and say she had a PhD? I never said she lied about that, but you have to be old enough to know what was going on back then. There were university elders (old fart professors) who did not like that she did not have a PhD, and they complained that it was a defacto standard for a university president to have a PhD. They also did not like that they had a PhD, but their boss did not. IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU? You are not getting that in one case the person lied and in the other it was a defacto requirement and a open discussion took place where she was awarded the position. In the former case there is an integrity issue that cannot be overlooked by a university. It would be like hiring an embessler as a bank teller. If university hires someone who lies about getting a degree what does it say about their ultimate product?
  8. I think we all acknowledge he would probably be an effective coach. I am a code slinger too and if you are hiring people that you catch lying on their resume I hope you don't put them in sensitive areas for your organization. You know, like giving them admin access, access to your code and passwords and such.
  9. She didn't lie about having a PhD. I think that is the problem here. He might be a great coach but the degree is a requirement and he lied about it.
  10. Its a big deal IMO. Its a university afterall and he lied about graduating. I am not surprised we backed off and we were justified in doing so. Everyone who was bashing the program and saying it made us look back needs to chill a little. This is a valid reason to walk away that nobody will blame us for. We are not the ones who lied.
  11. I thought they were pretty blunt last year. The only thing that surprised me was that people were surprised at all.
  12. You agree with me that we would lose our most highly rated players and you don't see how that would impact our progam specifically and college football overall? I think most people see the writing on the wall here.
  13. it won't make that much difference in recruiting. there are only so many positions at P5 schools. they have always had an advantage in recruiting. they always get the top players. it's the 2nd or 3rd tier players we sign. there isn't some magical dropoff in talent once the P5 schools fill their quota. just because rivals says some guy is #250 doesn't mean #251 isn't just as good or better. With there being 66+ power 5 schools around, I doubt USF would be able to even sniff a top 300 recruit. Why would a kid turn down money? Judging by some of the twitter pages, that is all a lot of these kids are interested in. Unless we get into a better conference (or the NCAA changes their rules), this would be an absolute dagger to our football program! many of the P5 schools don't take academic risks on top athletes. Northwestern, Vandy, Duke, etc. even if an academic risk was willing to play for pay there, the school isn't interested. we aren't getting many of the top 300 recruits now. neither are our direct competitors. it wouldn't be a dagger at all. I bet we would hardly notice. might mean we miss on a few guys but those would fill spots of other players that are ending up at P5 schools now. they would become available. limited spaces in P5. not much difference in say #300 recruit and #320 recruit. Could not disagree more. This sets up a new league and we would be relegated to a new AA status. I never said anything about being relegated to a lower division. I said it wouldn't affect recruiting all that much and it wouldn't. there are only so many scholarships to go around. if the lower division had 10 guys poached because of this then there would be 10 guys that did sign with P5 schools that are now available. personally I think recruiting rankings are bunk but there is something like 7 total 4 stars that weren't signed by P5 teams. you honestly think it would cripple lower division teams by losing them? the top teams already get 95% of the top players. I think it would cripple our recuiting efforts because we would be relegated to a lower division. We win some recruiting battles with the major P5 teams because kids want playing time. We win a lot of recruiting battles with lesser P5 teams because we are (or were) pretty eqaul with them. Now any player that is committed to us will be available for poaching by the likes of Wake Forrest or Duke or Pitt etc. sorry but Duke, Wake Forest, Vandy and the like do not recruit marginal students. Not saying our guys are marginal students but not sure they fit the mold of a Duke, Vandy etc. Pitt signed 23 players. 19 of which were rated 3 star or better. Fact is the bulk of P5 signing classes are already loaded with top talent. Northwestern signed 4 4 stars. 80% of their class is rated 3 star or better and they are one of the lowest rated P5 schools. They are examples of lower tier P5 schools that we can currently win recruiting battles against. We will not be able to with those battles anymore. Nobody is saying the P5 does not get better recruits now but teams like USF will never see a top 40 class ever again. We will be out recruited be every P5 school. "if the lower division had 10 guys poached because of this then there would be 10 guys that did sign with P5 schools that are now available." Those are called left overs. Look even you are saying in your argument that the top half of our class would be swapped with the lower half of the P5 school you are competing with. You seem to think that is ok. I think it is a major problem.

  16. So glad I clicked the link. Is there some way of flagging these threads when they go wildly off topic to spare the rest of us? I suggest putting a dumpster fire icon next to them. That should be pretty illustrative.
  17. The longer the thread the less likely the player is to commit.
  18. Do I have time to run to the bathroom? I have to take a wiz.
  19. We're 6 years removed from beating Auburn at Auburn, that SEC team with all that money, history and tradition. What exactly is your point? I think made his point. If any of you can't comprehend how vastly different we are you may never. We had built a reputation of being a giant killer in years passed. Remember? We were not the giants in those games, we were the other guys.
  20. and we will never have to play the type of competition stanford has to with the players they get. I don't get why people don't understand this. we aren't playing oregon, usc, ucla, et . the system works and honestly the foundation put in place by harbaugh with this system has allowed stanford to sustain their success. He made it work somewhat at wku so it should work at usf...just don't expect it at the level of Stanford. I mean wku would beat us now. Well that should tell you something!
