  1. Doug Woolard is the man. I have faith in him.
  2. Yup -- now this is a guy who wins on the low-level. 7 NCAA trips. I can live with this guy.
  3. Doesn't exist anymore? So that is why you were late on your monthly dues Rueben. You are a deadbeat. Joe, President of the Darkside
  4. I talked to Herman tonight, haven't consulted with Rueb yet, but our caucus had a vote with Rueben being absent, and we have come out in opposition to the hiring of John Pelphrey as our next basketball coach.. I personally support Gillien at this point and Herm wants us to make a run at Matt Dougherty. With two of the three votes in - we give a strong vote of no-confidence on the pontential selection of John Pelphrey as our next men's basketball coach. We will be sending an e-mail to Mr. Woolard letting him know of our caucus' stance on this issue. Shalom.
  5. nobody has any freakin idea at this point... come on woolard -- don't screw this up or the darkside will return.
  6. The guy lost close to 60 games in his first three years. Almost as bad as MAC.. And he plays in Sun Belt. Pete Gillien is looking better and better every day
  7. just another great example why everyone should always have health insurance. you never know when something like this is going to happen, yet I see countless americans day in and day out choosing not to buy this life saving coverage. if he didn't have health insurance he would be in deep deep deep trouble. good luck to you butch
  8. It just seems like Gillien wants the job and he has the experience that every other coach since Lee Rose hasn't had. He is as good of a name that has been mentioned. He knows what its like to go to the elite 8 and surely knows what its like to win a lot of games. We might as well just give him the chance that he wants so bad. We have gransberry and if you can't win with a guy getting 22 points and 13 rebounds then nobody can win at South FLorida
  9. I don't know man. They guy just doesn't seem that impressive. I understand the being around top coaches, but maybe its the South Alabama thing. Plus -- has he really won that much at the lower level?
  10. Gillien is My top candidate right now . If you cant have a ford - a chevy will have to do. I like how he really wants the job. He won some big games at Providence.
  11. Just hire the guy. He wants the job really bad. He has a huge chip on his shoulder over what happened at UVA. He won a ton of basketball games at xavier and providence. I think he is the right fit. Hiring the guy from South Alabama makes me want to go in the garage, lock the door and turn the car on. Gillien seems like a good name with a good coaching background and he is very hungry to prove the naysayers wrong. Bobby Lutz doesn't look like he is coming to Fowler.... so I will take the next best thing I guess. Anything but the guy from South Alabama. He doesn't even seem like he wants the job. Gillien's upfrontness about wanting to come here makes him my first pick now. Hire him.
  12. I can see the headlines on News Channel 8. "USF's got a new basketball coach, John What-the-Hell from South Alabama is the new skipper on Fowler Avenue" and then the locals change the channel to "Deal or No Deal." When is USF going to make the big move? This is depressing.
  13. we always seem to get the guy from South Alabama. What is wrong with Quinn Snyder? Why do we always get the Hyundai? Can we atleast get a Honda this time?
  14. doesn't seem like DW is interested. not sure why Maybe he isn't fond of lutz -- or doesn't think he is serious about leaving charlotte.
  15. Why can't this program get a top notch coach with a known quantity. Why do we always have to recruit Eastern Michigan, South Alabama, NorthWest Utah Coastal.. can't we get someone from a top program. sigh
  16. Yeah -- other then his pedigree (pitino, donovan) -- he really didn't do much at South Alabama the first three years. Can't see how this is a huge upgrade either. makes no sense what so ever.
  17. Here is his bio from the school site -- not sure what to think of this guy. He has been around some really good programs and is associated with some really good names like Donovan and Petino.. go figure. my gut is telling me this is the guy woolard wants to hire. --- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Courtesy: South Alabama Release: 07/30/2006 According to head coach John Pelphrey, year number five holds great promise for the University of South Alabama Jaguars. Pelphrey’s three previous years of team building laid the foundation for last season’s 24-7 record overall and 12-3 mark in conference play. In season number four, Pelphrey led the Jags to win the Sun Belt Conference West Division title, Sun Belt Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. “Last year was a result of trying to do things the right way,†Pelphrey said. “Our coaches and players worked very hard and everyone involved in our administration understood what was taking place, as well.†Last year’s strong backcourt, combined with a frontcourt featuring speed, athleticism, and skill will be enhanced by additional height in the front court this season. Pelphrey’s recruitment has reloaded the lineup to better position the Jags to maintain the high ground they’ve gained. Pelphrey became the sixth head coach in school history to record a .500 or better winning record in his first year as a head coach during his inaugural year in two, 2003. He became the ninth Jaguar coach in the school’s 35-year history when he was hired as head coach on March 22, 2002. Pelphrey has a 60-55 record in his four years at USA, ranking him fifth in school history. Last season, Pelphrey earned Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year honors as he guided the Jaguars to the best turnaround in the nation, from 10-18 in 2004-05 to 24-7 in 2005-06. An assistant coach in the college ranks for nine years (1993-2002), Pelphrey came to South Alabama after spending six seasons at the University of Florida as an assistant to Billy Donovan. After a stellar four-year playing career at the University of Kentucky under coaches Rick Pitino and Eddie Sutton, Pelphrey accepted his first assistant coaching job at Oklahoma State where he spent the 1993-94 season. One year later, he moved to Marshall University and joined Donovan where he helped in the resurgence of the Thundering Herd program. In 1996, he followed Donovan from Marshall to Florida and helped the Gators to a school record four straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 1999 to 2002. During the 1999-2000 season, the Gators made their first-ever appearance in the national championship game against Michigan State. This past season, Pelphrey was another part of history as the Gators recorded their fourth straight 20-win season. While a player at Kentucky from 1988-1992, Pelphrey led the Wildcats to the Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance, including the epic battle with Duke in the 1992 Elite Eight. Pelphrey was a two-time captain while at Kentucky and in 1999 was named the UK Student Athlete of the Year. In 2005, Pelphrey was inducted into the Kentucky Hall of Fame. Following graduation in 1992, Pelphrey played professional basketball overseas in France and Spain. A former Mr. Basketball at Paintsville High School in Kentucky, he is married to the former Tracy Lyon. The couple has two children, a son Jaxson Hamilton (10) and daughter Ann-Marie Grace Donovan (7). THE PELPHREY FILE: Age: 38 Birthdate: July 18, 1968 Height: 6-foot-7 Hometown: Paintsville, Ky. He understands about developing student-athletes as people, not just as players. John sets the highest standards in values and integrity and instills these values in the young men he teaches. His work ethic and passion have made him a success at every level of basketball, from a player to an assistant to the transition to a head coach. He is building something very special at South Alabama." University of Florida Athletics Director Jeremy Foley "John is a man of vision, an architect, and someone who understands the process of building a program from the ground up. He connects well with people on every level. He is a man of great values, a great teacher, a great role model for the student-athletes he mentors, and has been a success everywhere he has been because of these qualities." Louisville head coach Rick Pitino “John Pelphrey was one of the most intelligent players that I have ever coached. His leadership on the court has carried over to the sidelines. As a coach, he is one of the brightest young stars in our game.†ESPN College Basketball Analyst Jimmy Dykes "South Alabama players play the game of basketball just like their coach John Pelphrey played it when he was in college. Maximum effort, great intensity and a passion for winning that few can match. He coaches the game like he played it, understanding it is a privilege to compete at the highest level. John Pelphrey is a winner." Former Florida Gator and current member of the NBA San Antonio Spurs Matt Bonner “Coach Pelphrey was not only my coach, but my teacher and friend. His experience, passion for the game, and tutelage was key in helping me get to the NBA.â€Â
  18. Vicki and I go way back.... I still feel bad about the fall out between her and the hinkelbergger.
  19. nobody is hungrier then my boy Bobby Lutz.. 9 years at UNCC 5 NCAA's 3 NIT's 1 conference regular season title 2 conferecne tourny titles 4 recruiting classes in the top 20. As good of a coach as we can hope for. Bring in BOBBY!
  20. See, My sources are good at times :-) I know DW is somewhere in this general area. That is pretty funny Joe.. good for a laugh.
  21. I guess Bobby Lutz because i have NO idea at this point who he is going to hire. Do i think it will be Lutz ? no. but i don't think anyone really knows who is going to get the call. I am sure woolard is on the phone with grant today.
  22. His failure at UVA really weighs on him. You can tell that it eats him up inside. I like a hungry coach who has been kicked down. This guy has started to warm up to me. Two weeks ago I said no way. Now -- i could live with his hire. Was awesome at Xavier -- did a great job at Providence -- but just couldn't get it done at UVA. odd.
  23. The baseball team needs a decent stadium.. well be pretty cool when they get it.
  24. Brad knows that there is no hard feelings. Im just giving him a hard time.
