  1. I believe that there are many positives about USF. The key any coach wants is the ability to be able to win in a major conference. Tampa is a great city and USF is very attractive to minority players. I would think Heath might appreciate that after coming from Arkansas. It might take some time but a coach can win at USF, in fact coaches have won previously which proves the point. You do not have to win the Big East to be successful and go to the NCAAs.
  2. Ammaker may have fallen short at Michigan but he is a real quality guy. Many thought he would be the heir apparent for coach K at Duke. He did inherit a mess at Michigan but just could not push them over the top. I think Grant is a better fit for USF but Ammaker would be a fine coach.
  3. And redshirt frosh LeBrandon Glover who is big and strong.
  4. I think Huners and Schmidt are both rising Juniors. And I would think C. Robinson will remain at DE now that Josh has been dismissed. Too much depth at LB to keep him there when the DE position is now thin.
  5. This is a BIG issue and one of the few areas where USF lags significantly behind other big programs in facilities. Leavitt, as usual, is right on about this. Big football players don't just happen. A lot of hard work goes into making these kids big, and USF definitely can use more size up front.
  6. A win at Auburn would be HUGE, BUT winning the Big East would be a lot bigger because we would receive the recognition of playing in a BCS Bowl, something even Rutgers did not do this year.
  7. If we have to take chances on academics, I am glad we are doing so with Florida kids. It helps with relations with HS coaches that USF is willing to take a chance.
  8. Very well regarded LB/DE. Offered by some of the big boys and is in for his official visit at USF this weekend.
  9. But if you do make the team you are treated as a full part of the team. No Rudy treatment (one of my favorite films BTW). Todays D1 programs need walkons because of the limited number of scholarships. Just look at the bowl MVP (unbelievable to think he was a walkon) and both of the senior TEs were walkons. Many others I am sure. Really these guys are what make college sports what it is beyond the cameras and publicity. Congrate to the Sheriff.
  10. And the offensive line coach FROM wvu that was "bought" by FSU is making something like $400,000 per year. Pretty good change for a position coach!
  11. He redshirted this year but word has it that he flunked out. VERY unfortunate because he could have been a big time player at USF. And a nice kid to boot.
  12. Grant is trying to get a 6th year which would give him three more. And he is as serious about football as his dad. A very serious student of the game. Virtually the whole Gregory family are coaches.
  13. Ford and McKilvey(?) are two 4-5 star transfers. Neither on the list but both really add to the talent level on this team.
  14. remember our two best recruits this year are already in schoold, Ford and McKenzie. Along with Fonua, Warren and McCaskill all of whom will be players in the trenches in a couple of years.
  15. Hill is being talked about as a possible safety. Actually, that makes a lot of sense. A great athlete who is very good size. And I understand his catching ability may be a bit deficient for his playing WR.
  16. Having played in the ACC in the '70s I can say they really are not a very good football conference. Never have been. And now with FSU and Miami stumbling their new arrivals really don't make the ACC as strong as the other BCS conferences. And certainly not against the Big East, which not only was MUCH stronger this year, but objectively look to have have four programs with great young coaches that are on the rise.
  17. That article is a one sided view on Prep schools. Prep schools are short for college preparatory schools and are essentially schools that are post high school for generally a year (although most prep schools are actually part of a boarding high school. Many, many prep schools exist to improve academics and many high achieving students use prep schools to improve academics to get into Ivy League level schools. HOWEVER, post high school prep schools can also be used for kids who need to improve their academics to get into college, AND many prep schools have highly competitive sports programs, thereby a convergence of goals create environments where lower achieving academic kids with high quality athletics use the prep schools essentially as a year of remediation. Also, many prep schools are military in nature. In my book if they are legit, and most are, this is just another avenue for a kid to get his academics together in order to go to college.
  18. DO NOT forget our redshirt freshmen LBs, especially McQueen and Glover who are both 230-235 and very strong, stronger in fact right now than our current starters. These guys are the real deal and will definitely compete for starting positions.
  19. So you guys think C4 will step right in at WR and start? I think that may be a bit premature, but if he does then we are going to be STRONG at WR because we have a VERY strong group of redshirt frosh to go along with the returning WRs.
  20. I think this commit had more to do with USF's lukewarm interest rather than Missouri's efforts.
  21. Just go to the Gator Bowl early and you most likely will get some good buys on tickets.
  22. Actually, not all players try hard. And all players are not team players. And all players handle themselves with class when demoted. And not all players put team over individual feelings. But PJ was all of these things, which is what makes college football unique. Oh, and talk about class. How about Will Bleakley? A 210 lb walkon who worked his a$$ off to start, and who graded out as well as any OL this entire year. That is also what makes college ball great. I will miss both of these quality guys that help make USF football a great program.
  23. Actually, Holtz called a good game and schemed his way to some yardage. But overall, this game was a showcase for the difference between Big East and Conf USA football. If Grothe doesn't get hurt USF puts up 40. Game really wasn't close even tho ECU almost scored several times. USF was in controlf from the very first snap.
  24. If we go 10-2 with our schedule next year we will be ranked in the top 15 maybe higher. Auburn, UL, & WVU will all be ranked in the top 15 next year as well so 10-2 will be no easy task. I looks as though Rutgers won't be as tough with them losing so many graduating seniors. Not so with the other heavyweights in the Big East, and Pitt continues to bring in big time talent and should be stronger next year.
