  1. Brett says is his first line "from what im hearing" If you take it as a cement fact, thats your fault. You say you have a source that says he has NOT withdrawn. is that a fact? NOOOOO. So why get your undies in a bunch, take it for what it is. Instead of gettting the BULLies or BULLbots to say Brett is making USF an undesireable place to coach, while he is just stating opinions, thats it. The man gets paid to do what he does. im guessing the man making the decision to pay him knows a little more than you about his importance to his job. Again Im just guessing, dont take it as a fact.
  2. Brett, keep us informed. you have supporters here whom appreciate the hard work and tough nose reporting you do. Not everyone wants to wear our USF pajamas and watch old tapes of the major bowl games we have been to . Let us know the truth , not what we want to hear. Thanks
  3. Does he coach the same team "the waterboy" played football for?  Sorry just a joke.  Honestly i do not think the coach from Southeastern louisiana state is qualified for a big east basketball job. ÂÂ
  4. I don't understand why we havent heard much speculation or tried to hire Matt Doherty. I mean he recruited all those stars at UNC that eventually won a NC with Roy Williams. He coached Norte dame, big east team. I dont know his situation when he was at FAU but I kinow SMU in conference DOA is not more appealing than USF and the Big East. The guy has NY roots and is a great recruiter and highly respected in the NCAA. I mean i keep hearing these guys turn down our job like they are too good for it. Pete Gillen, john Pelphry,Gregg marshall....please. i take Doherty over all of those guys. He is still young and energetic. Lets at least contact him, right?
  5. Agreed, I dont know where we turn>?  Whats up with Matt Doherty?  Anyone know if we are or why we are not contacting him?  I mean we have to have more to offer than SMU and conference DOA, right?
  6. Knight, great to see you have a man crush on me. But I know what i said and I know what i felt. At the time I thought we were going to be spending somewhere in the 500-600K a year/ Not 800K for this guy. i said his name on the first list I made on this board before anyone (part of the reason i said that), maybe you have enough time on your hands to pull it up, but I listed about 10 guys and he was towards the end. Sure I think he is a hot commodity but not my real choice. But i will support him, i just think we could get more for the $. Not that he isnt a good coach.
  7. I keep my vote at matt doherty, not because i feel thats what will happen, but that what i want and im not following the rules. The only reason i want him is because i look at the situation like this. i played basketball and played with a few kids that were recruited to go to big schools. I remember them getting letters from universities and coaches. As a friend of these guys I wouldnt be like "Hey Gregg marshall is recruiting you, thats great!" But for Matt Doherty i would. Maybe i am a simple person, but I know these high school kids listen to their friends. Maybe he will build is name now in a major conference and with some immediate success, but I can see this not working just as much as I see it working. Good Luck.
  8. Man, I dont know. I hate to be so negative, but that is a lot of friggin money for a guy who coached in a no name conference for a no name team. Won one game in the the NCAA tourney to a team who WE all knew was not good (i think everyone in my office pool had that upset, not because it was winthrop but because it was ND) I do like his winning percentage but like someone said, its apples to oranges when it comes to the big east. I do trust Woolard though. I hope he knows more than all of us and made this offer because he personally knows the man is qualified. I hope it had nothing to do with New Mexico's interest and all the hype. i hope they sat down, he saw potential in the man and went with his knowledge and gut feeling and made the good decision that USF pays him to make.
  9. Gotta love a guy who has won 109 more games than he has lost. Winthrop was going to give him a TEN YEAR CONTRACT FOR 400K A YEAR. Thats means we must be offering big dough. No way we give him a 10 year contract but im sure we will have to be paying way more than 400K a year to lure him away. does he deserve that?
  10. If you really heard that, might as well get him in here, bring some of his players and get out recruiting.
  11. I dont know, I like bullievers idea of an experienced major conference coach. Though I will say this guy seems he may be able to grow on us.
  12. I wouldnt say you were the lone guy, i would say a lot of our expectations keep dropping with all the posters that rain on our parade about not being able to afford certain coaches and giving us their "so called" obtainable suggestions who if were the case we should have kept our old ball coach and just saved the money. I agree with your "go after calipari" attitude and I am impressed you have that view just like this knee-jerk big city ignorant guy. But USF in the past has been known to disappoint more than surprise. I think we are all getting the feeling that this may happen. i was completely optimistic about this hire a few weeks ago but it going away slowly and I am preparing for an upsetting hire, even though I will absolutey give whoever it is a chance, i have a gut feeling it will be a mid conference unproven guy. We will see.
  13. You have no idea how many people can afford it and choose not to get it. But anyway, good luck to Butch. Great to hear he has a proactive dentists. i bet my crappy dentist wouldnt even say anything and ignore it.
  14. Ive visited and partied in L.A. (lower Alabama) a few times and always felt welcome and had fun. Great place.
  15. Lots of accomplishments and a winning record. That sounds more like our speed. Question is can he get the big time recruits. I'd rather gamble with that, than a guy we would have to guess is he could get the recruits and then if he can win with them. Marshall is a proven winner. Would be a good hire.
  16. I know...I was fully expecting Coach K, or Roy Williams. I think a young coach like Pelphrey would be great for our program.  He is the exact opposite on the bench then Ma was.  In DW I trust. Yea...thats exactly what my point was. i only expect Coach K and Roy Williams. I hope thats not what you really got out of reading it and were just reacting to the post because I posted it. You may think Pelphry will be great for our program and he very well might be but I dont trust a guy to rebuild a Big East program when he goes 36-48 in the sunbelt. Call me crazy. Sure its hard to recruit to the sunbeslt but its also hard for his opposition to recruit to the sunbelt. Seems we should be looking at the guy in the sunbelt with at least a winning record. John Pelphry and USF does not make for a desireable place to play bball, IMO. Maybe Pelphry and Pittsburgh, but not USF. We need someone with some name recognition and good coaching skills to get the fans and recruits to come.
  17. I dont care what the "know it alls" are saying. Pelphry does not automatically make USF a desireable place to play. thats what we need> Jay Wright and Villanova does, Ben howland and PITT does, John Thompson III and GEORGETOWN does, Bobby Gonzales and SETON HALL does. USF is not a brand name, i never thought Gillen would sound so great, No Pelphrey, lets let Kentuchy get him LOL! Might as well just bring in Matt Doherty for the name and shock value. USF isnt a stepping stone job like we all said, it would take someone like a bobby Huggins or Matt Doherty.
  18. LOL, if Tubby Smith is let go after this season, Pelphrey is going to be the guy UK hires? Please. I dont know about this guy, we should have just stuck with Mac if we were going to hire the guy from the direcectional school of South alabama. Here we go again.
  19. Sickening. But it does not surprise me at all with lincoln high school. "thugs" would go to games (home or away) with sebastian telfair and yell and stare at people who would root against him and lincoln. sounds like a great basketball atmoshere. really messed up world we live in, it does not surprise me
  20. I called it earlier in the year about USC basketball. Tim Floyd is building a program. Wait until OJ Mayo and Taj Gibson play together next year. Nick young is most likely going pro, but if he doesnt they may be preseason #1 next year with or without him.
  21. Would be a great hire. Basically recruited the whole UNC team that won the national championship, except marvin williams He is from Long Island, NY and has lots of northeast ties. bring him in, he got a raw deal at UNC and may have something to prove to the world.
