But do they want to play for a program that is under the cloud of racism. If BG is still the coach the decent ones will not come here. If it’s another coach he better have a silver tongue.

Agreed. Gregory's job as a recruiter just got 10x tougher. He has to assure parents of minority student-athletes that racism is not acceptable in any form. The fact that we have not heard from Gregory or that Gregory didn't fire Herrion is only compounding things.

There won't be any defense pertaining to the current accusations if the last paragraph comes true ........

If the first paragraph pertains to just the on the court results, your cherry picking has been rebutted ad nauseum ....

Well at least he gave us our pinnacle moment - the CBI Championship. I'll never forget those wins against Stony Brook, Loyola Marymount and Hidden Valley Ranch Univeristy.

All joking aside what he did in less than 24 months was amazing, but i think that success, if you want to call it that, made him more stubborn.

So your ridiculous comment, "Hiring unqualified nice people that require never ending patience as they continuously fail" is based on one hire, after one ****** up year ....... <British accent>you're a loon</British accent>.

Have to agree with @Triple B on this one. Despite what you think of Scott, I think Kelly made a great hire and would like to see what he could do when hiring a new MBB coach, when that day comes.

but 10-4 in post season tournaments, not counting the looked down upon CBI ....

I love how people keep defending this guy in the face of mountains of ecidence that shows he how terrible he is as a coach.

Now if he truley did not disciple or bubble up racists allegations on Herrion, then I cant wait for how the most devote Gregory supoorter defends him.

How about we wait and see how he handles this before getting out the pitchforks ...... and any assessment of MK right now has absolutely nothing to do with football.

I agree. This is a seminal moment for Kelly. Let's give him an opportunity to display some crisis management skills. While I think he waiteda year to long on Strong, I applaud him for the Jeff Scott hire.

What we need from Kelly is this:

    1. As loudly as possible make it be know that any discrimination of any kind will have zero tolerance, and then back those words up by dismissing the MBB staff

    2. Be vocal, visable and available to any student athlete, reporter or general student who has questions or concerns - this is where leadership matters

    3. Make a hire for MBB that can rebuild the program in the image Kelly has for it

If he can do all three he can come out of this as the hero. If he fails to do the first two then he is part of the problem.

I thought your curve was based on CBG's history of middling, do you now contend that it is due to a long history of hiring assistants accused of saying racist things and that you were factoring that in your analysis?

That "the word was going to get out soon enough". There had been grumbings in the locker room, but varying indications as to why.

The fact that he is a terrible tactition is a seperate, well documented issue.

While all of this happening is bad for the players, it ultimately will be a great opportunity for Kelly to hit the reset button by making his first hire for MBB. Dark days for now, but the future is now full of opportunities.

Well it seems portal/transfer numbers are large (perhaps thanks to NCAA) and happening around many programs.  Not sure this at all changes your stature.

Yeah, the NCAA has created free agency at the worst time for USF. There were open critics that decried the decision that while well intentioned because of the pandemic, would have disastrous unintended consequences.

I agree it is no excuses next year. To be fair, he was taking on transfers as bodies. He needed guys to be here even if they weren't a great fit. He inherited a dumpster fire and hasn't quite turned things around. I'm disappointed because I wanted his tenure to end with some stability and a winning foundation in place. Hopefully he can figure out a way to make this work. I still haven't written off next season, respectably if Durr, Murphy, and Chaplin return. They can make up a decent core we can build off of.

He did inherit a dumpster fire and the guy should get all the credit in the world for taking that dumpster fire to 24 wins in less than 24 months. The guy is a great fireman.

With regard to these transfers, you have to wonder how good these guys are when they couldn't cut it in P5 so they came here. We needed depth given the circumstances, so it was natural for CBG to take them, even if they weren't a great player or fit (see Anderson). If they were the best of our bad options and we were the best of their bad options, then so be it. Relationships like that are destined to fail.

What reason do we have to expect that any of the new transfers Gregory brings in will fare any better than the old ones you say he already misfired on? With there basically being free agency this off season for talent, USF is not a destination spot for any quality transfers.

If Kelly keeps Gregory, I am sure Gregory will fill the squad with the best of whoever wants to come here, and he will struggle to put the pieces together (again), will likely misfire on a few of the transfers (again), run an incompetent offense (again) and will finish without a winning conference (again) record for the 12th straight season, and for the 15 of last 16 seasons he has coached.

In Year 5 he needs to make the NCAAT, and he much further away from that than he was after his peak here - the CBI championship, which is a long ways away from the NCAAT and from where the program is today.

I get that you are teasing, but I am not seeing anything too alarming. No one really wanted Collins back. Anderson was never going to do anything. Williams underwhelmed in his time here. Akec was a non-factor. Castaneda is the big loss here and the one that is troubling. If he is joined by another expected contributor for next year (not just a depth piece) I will be legitimately concerned.

Those 6 players are players Gregory recruited to come play here AND all 6 of them had at least one more year to play at USF AND all 6 players said NO.

Its easy to look at each individual and why they might be leaving or diminish their impact, but I believe we will see at least 2 of the big 3 also leave. What becomes difficult to rationalize now, but you did a nice job of it, becomes impossible then.

If we actually lose Murphy and Durr then CBG has to go, right? But I am willing to take a minute and take a deep breath to see what ends up happening. I think we all knew that there was a good chance that Yetna bolts, so it isn't cause for panic if he decides to go to France. If we lose any from Durr, Murphy, Chaplin, and Tchewa, we are screwed.

Its a fair point. Things are snowballing right now so we are projecting out and we haven't seen what Gregory may be able to put together. Although I do think Gregory's strength is in recruiting, this has to stain him to potential recruits/transfers. And even when he does get players to transfer in, he has shown no ability to fit pieces together offensively in ay competent way.

This is how it ended for Bobby Paschal in 1996 - he could barely field a team at the end of the season, James Harper revolted and that was it for Paschal.

  13. 1 minute ago, BullyPulpit said:

Breaking this down further, Castanada is the most shocking and hurtful departure. Akec was a depth piece that barely contributed this season. Anderson clearly wasn't a good fit and has gone from Big 12 to AAC to D2. Williams was under utilized and may feel that he fits better somewhere else for scheme purposes. Collins and Brown are not shocking given that the graduated.

Maybe CBG has some guys ready to transfer in that he feels will work better than the guys we have leaving. Other than X, all of the other guys either graduated or were depth pieces. This could still turn out ok.

I love your optimism. If only Walt Disney had your imagination, think of the things he could have done (teasing).

It's being reported that Anderson is heading to the College of Southern Idaho, which suggests to me that he may just not be that good of a player.

His defense is terrible. He wanted to come to USF, be close to home and jack up 3's all day. There is no room for that in Gregory style offense/defense, which makes me wonder why we had him transfer in.
