After 2 years of you ragging on CBG I'm ready to agree with you.  If doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is insanity then I am afraid he is insane.  Collins doesn't play point most of the game but in the last 3 - 5 minutes that is all coach is calling. Rather have the ball in X's hands. He makes better decisions and he can shoot the ball a bit better than Collins.  He's not as strong physically but I'd rather take my chances with him.

If we know what is coming late in games you know the other teams do too. Over the last 3 years we have seen 21 losses where we had the lead in the second half (several double digit leads like against Wichita State). I wonder where this team and program would be if Gregory didn't get tight late in games.

And some of those same "astute" observers were writing off CWT after his second year .... when you constantly ***** about coaches you're bound to be right sometimes, especially here, so spare me the ahead of the curve ********.

Yeah, CWT pulled it out of the fire there, but to his credit he actually made changes to survive and then thrive. Can't say the same thing about Strong or Gregory - they are running that playbook and won't ever change - ever.

Being ahead of the curve is indisputable fact for those astute individuals.

I don't see that many, probably just the one, looking down on Gregory. Astute hoops fans understand that his make or break year is coming up.

I love people trying to diss Stan talking about a "weak" BE. The program has had less than a handful of 20 win seasons and Stan had two ..... and both in years where the BE was the third best conference per Sagarin ratings. And anyone who knows crap about USF basketball knows that it isn't the type program that just reloads every year, they have to rebuild. They lost their front court heart and soul with Gus and RAJ gone. He had a JUCO transfer coming in that would have at least helped in the transition but was shot down at the last moment by the Academic Committee.

Following that he has the highest ranked recruiting class ever but only gets one year with them ..... a year when AC plays only 8 games. Following the best year in the history of the program, he should have had at least 3 more years, especially under the circumstances. It was the most indefensible move JG made pertaining to Athletics.

Astute observers of leadership and coaching ability, were ahead of the curve with Strong are likely ahead of the curve with Gregory. The rest of the herd is usually a year behind.

Great context for everyone regarding Heath. We essentially were playing in the greatest basketball conference of all-time. Now we can't even get to .500 in C-USA 2.0

Yes, the NCAAT is the goal, but clearly that wasn’t even a springboard for Heath, because he followed it up with two 12 win seasons. My only point is that I really appreciate what Heath did for us, it’s my favorite USF sports memory, but I’m not about to give the guy a life time contract. Following up an NCAAT appearance with two 12 win seasons is unacceptable.

You are confusing affection for attachment and attachment for a lifetime contract.

I laugh at those who bring up that CBI championship...it’s like winning a home economics cook off at a junior high school somewhere in the Midwest...no body cares as it has zero relevance. We won a tournament that we PAID to get into. Support or don’t support BG but for lord’s sake don’t bring up that half baked tournament win as a reason to keep the man.

    +1,000,000

Did we ever hang a banner for winning the CBI?

I'm not going to blame Gregory for this loss.  Actually I thought he had a pretty good game plan.  How do you know that was the Coach's play call, were you in the huddle?

No, I believe it was more bad decision making on the court.  Hey I'm sure its not easy to be a Player, you have to make split decisions in the heat of the moment.  We just continue to repeat that unfortunately.......On to next year!

This had Gregory's fingerprints all over it again. The stalled offense, Collins to the basket one-on-three. In the last 3 years we have blown 20 second-half leads (this was #21), so in this game Gregory doesn't pull him out (if Collins indeed was growing rogue) or he went back to the one-play playbook he has late in games. If you watch the replay, you will see its the later. Everyone spreads the floor, Collins comes to the ball and everyone spreads out. Its a designed play.

This is on Gregory. He routinely gets away from what work the first 30-35 minutes of games and we wind up coughing up the game instead.

I thought Durr was awesome for the most part. He's not perfect but should be a real force next year ...... and agree about Collins. Love what he did by coming here but I think the cons outweigh the pros with his play at this point and hope like hell that CBG doesn't have him as an option next year. X, CM, Chaplin, the new guy Moss should be a good guard stable next year.

Totally agree about Durr - he has shown the ability to play with his back to the basket from either block, and if he can knock down that 15 to 18 footer he has a shot to play at the next level.

That’s not indicative of Heath’s coaching ability or the job he could do. Gregory took over a team that had like 3 players returning and a program that was caught in NCAA violations. After two years won a post season championship and the next 2 years had to deal with an injured star player and a pandemic. Heath had one of USF’s best players and then a miracle NCAA tourney appearance and went back to winning 12 games. Don’t see the attachment to Heath, yet looking down at Gregory.

Heath's (and USF's only) 2 NCAAT wins at USF > anything Gregory has done here, including a 3rd tier post-season tournament that included wins against Stony Brook, Utah Valley, Loyola Marymount and DePaul. And looking at where we are today, that CBI championship was never a spring board to anything else.

The NCAAT is the destination. That's how many see it.

  9. Naming rights for a team nobody cares about won't get you a nickel.

To really generate revenues you don't hire Leavitt to be your HC, you hire Leavitt to be your AD and you will see a new era of bold and dynamic leadership that will generate interest and donors in our program we haven't seen in 10+ years.

We need someone willing to head butt a facemask, wall or office cubicle, and show that when that glorious cut on his forehead opens up it bleeds green and gold.

Coulda Woulda Shoulda - our motto for this entire year.  Yes, we would have had a fighting chance against Cincy if we played like yesterday.

We played well enough to win, and yes we got some bad calls.  Again I don't mean to be mean and call out one player cause its a team sport.  But Collins continues to screw things up at the Point during crunch time.  Its so frustrating.  If he just makes a couple of good decisions in those last couple of minutes, OR can make freaking free throws, we win the game, plain and simple.

Only silver lining from yesterday, UCF got knocked out too at least.

His last 4 drives to the basket resulted in a blocked shot, blocked shot, wild shot off the backboard that didn't catch rim and an offensive foul. We all knew that was the only play call Gregory has for the last 3 minutes of games, Wichita State knew it too. Everyone knew it.

Blame it on Collins if you want - they guy is a flawed player - but the decision to continually put the ball in his hands late in games is Gregory's decision. For everything Gregory has done for the program, its probably best for everyone to move on.

Bring back Yetna and Brown and we have a good shot at winning a championship next year.

If Gregory is back then it doesn't matter who else is back.
