  1. haha Pound the rock on O and camp out in their backfield on D. That's the plan, let's see how it goes...
  2. Agreed. Taggart is a former QB. He know what he wants, so I have faith he will pick someone that will give us the best chance to win.
  3. No guarantees. Drive fast. I don't really care either way. Cook is more exciting to watch and can make a play if the call breaks down. Maxwell is more conservative and a better decision maker (only threw 9 INTs in 446 attempts last year, and 3 of those were in the first half of the season opener). It doesn't matter who starts if the WRs can't catch the ball. OL needs to keep them clean too. With a good OL, I feel like Maxwell is the safer option. The defense is loaded. Couple players of note: CB Darqueze Dennard - Very good cornerback for us, being labeled as a 1st-2nd round draft pick in this upcoming draft. SS Isaiah Lewis - Fearless hitter, pretty fast. Makes some dumb decisions at times but he's a pretty good safety and has started 3 years now for us. OLB Taiwan Jones - This guy is a physical freak. 6'3 250lbs and plays the most coverage-heavy LB spot in our defense. Midway through the season he took over a senior captain & 3 year starter's position. Is only a true junior. I could talk about quite a few members of the defense but Bullough and Dennard are #1A and B in terms of star power. Also, i'd be highly surprised if you could run the ball. One of the (few) highlights of last year was us holding Wisconsin to 0.5 YPC in Madison. The pass rush was terrible last year, but the run defense was lights out. Thanks, that gives me a good idea of what to look for. I just want make sure that you know running the ball will probably be our gameplan, not saying it's going to be effective lol. We will likely use RB by committee. The Spartans defense is the best on our schedule. We will probably try to establish some sort of run early in hopes we can use play action more effectively. Any QB that starts for us will have under 4 starts in their college career, so we will need to take pressure off of our QB early. FYI, this is will be the first time we didn't have a clear no. 1 starter since the training camp of 2006. I will be making the trip to East Lansing, so looking forward to a great game and a great time. We are staying in Detroit on Sunday. I'm not sure if you are familiar with that area as well, but do you have any sports bars you would recommend with a good amount of HDTVs and NFL Sunday Ticket. I'm looking for a good place to watch the Bucs game. Win or lose, the majority of this board will likely be rooting for the Spartans from week 3 until end of the season. Go Bulls
  4. I was listening. He was excited to be in Vero and get the team playing for each other, and said that people will start to separate from each other in Vero with more contact. He talked about how Thor was out with the heart issue, but they expect to have him back today or tomorrow. He also said that Matt and Bobby are slightly ahead of Bench and White due to their knowledge of the playbook. He also said all the QBs had a bad day yesterday but that was because the defense played really well, but Matt had 2 good practices before that.
  5. Would you rather see Andrew Maxwell or Connor Cook start for you guys? Also, other than Bullough and Denard on defense, who are a couple of other guys on the back 7 that fly under the radar? I did read that your other conerback is really good. I don't believe we expect to bring may surprises to East Lansing. Run the ball, stop the run. Make it a 4th quarter game.
  6. Improving special teams is so important to giving our offense a better chance at success. Short fields = points
  7. Just to help you guys out on flights since I work in the industry (off the top of my head): Southwest flies TPA-Flint (non-stop), TPA-Detroit (1 stop no plane change), Orlando- Detroit (non stop) and TPA-Chicago Midway (non stop) Right now, Tampa to Flint tickets out on the non stop friday before game and back on sunday after game are going for like $210 bucks roundtrip with taxes and fees included (which is pretty much the lowest fare you can get w/ bags flying free and no change fee) Delta flies TPA-Detroit (non stop) Spirit flies TPA-Detroit (non stop w/ a fee for absolutely everything) **Also if you didn't know, you can book tickets for any airline and if you change your mind within 24 hours, the government requires they give you a full refund with no penalty.
  8. I'd feel better about this if he ended up committing to a school that is not on our schedule. Oh well.
  9. Very interesting .... Question is, are we a "big, D-1 school" to whoever used that term? Not basing this on anything other than the articles, it just feels like Louisville.

  11. With a change in attitude and game management, I think 6-6 and a win @ UCF would be tangible improvement. Of course, I feel uneasy about the QB and RB situation. I would be willing to take a step back in wins if we end up finding our QB of the future this year. If Aaron Lynch is half as good as we know he can be, the defensive line (and defense in general) will see a boost.
  12. http://www.centralfloridafuture.com/sports/usf-returns-for-revamped-war-on-i-4-1.2830624 Looks like UCF papers are already preparing for the worst lol "Marcus Shaw is the returning lead back for the Bulls, rushing for 248 yards last season. A potential addition to the Bulls’ backfield is 2010 National Championship MVP Michael Dyer. Taggart has coached a 1,500-yard rusher in each of his last four seasons, so it’s a fair assumption that the Bulls will have a run focus in their offense."

  14. Not sure how much the player knows about the decision, but it certainly seems the buzz had him on campus, and believes Strong gets the green light to bring him in. No point in fretting...if he comes here, great. If not, I say we play the season anyway, just for grins. I agree. I wasn't trying to stoke the fire by posting the link, it was just more of a' this is the latest info I could find.' If we can get him, I think it really helps our team more than it hurts our image.

  16. This may or may not have anything to do with this but Charlie Strong is from Arkansas.
  17. ...per Greg it's a torn achilles http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/db-brown-out-for-season-with-achilles-injury/2132089
  18. We are referring to 2013 right? Bowl dates haven't been officially announced only for 2014 and beyond. Everything is already set for this season.

  20. Did we need more room? I thought we were ok because someone dropped back a class due to grades. I don't think dropping a walk on does much for room...and I don't think is news, as Data points out, this is just likely updating to show where he's headed. Good luck to him. I forget who it was but we had someone sign int he 2013 class that was dropping back to spring enrollment due to scores thus making him part of the 2014 class correct? or is he still 2013 as far as scholarships go? Besides if he does sign with us it wont be long before we get the scholarship back anyways. I think you are referring to DE Eric Mayes and he should be joining the team in the spring. There was one other guy along with Mayes. I don't remember who. The other one is CB Darius Whitty I think.

  22. A few thoughts: -If you think Mike Ford and Mike Dyer have the same resume, you are probably smoking the same stuff they were. The only thing they have in common is they were highly rated recruits out of high school, which means absolutely nothing on a college football field. -If you think they suffer from the same type of lapses in judgment, you are probably correct. -Mike Dyer has a lot more to lose personally than USF does as a program if we take him and he gets booted from his third school. -I've never met or spoken to Mike Dyer, but if perception is reality, it appears he has taken the last year to start his road to rehabiliting himself as a responsible human being. The question is can he continue it away from the state of Arkansas. -Last but not least, I hope he decides to come here, stays eligible, and destroys the American Atheltic Conference.
  23. I think a top 25 finish and another bowl win is a realistic expectation to keep this program moving forward.  A BIG EAST championship is not out of the realm of possibility, but I still believe we are a year or two away.  Remember, we need to keep possible injuries and suspensions in mind when predicting our record.  The season will not go perfectly, we learned that the hard way with Plancher, Ponton, Julmiste, Chambers, Watson, and Burnett last year.
  24. At least this guy knows what he is talking about, whether you agree or disagree with him
