  1. The title of the thread is 'Why don't we run the triple option?', I'm just trying to point out why it's easier said than done. Our current starting right tackle is a former walk-on converted from the D-line lol. Absolutely I agree 100% we have the guys to run it. Weve been recruiting for a power run system so while we may not have the absolute top lineman we have decent enough lineman to create a push between Bethel, Gibbons, Thor, and the other guys. The whole "we have a starting D Lineman walkon" as our starter is crap, that oline hasnt been updated since spring where Thor was out, and we didnt have Gibbons or Bethel..... Guys Im not talking about creating an all world offense Im talking about using the players that we have WHICH WE DO, in the most effective way. Between Flowers, Mack, Johnson, Tice, Swanson, and a few of these solid lineman we got, and this up paced no huddle offense were implementing if we ran the triple option I think we could see some success tiring out defenses and keeping them on the field not allowing them to adjust personnel. Big defensive front guys get tired quick, and if they get tired, there goes the line. I think the point most are trying to make is that we start football next Thursday and changing to a triple option philosophy now is an impossibility ... for a myriad of reasons. Preach
  2. I hope we run a lot of read option as well, but triple option is a completely different story. didn't say anything about triple option. and they really aren't all that different. QB makes his read and either keeps it or gives it to a RB. triple option incorporates a FB. I was agreeing with you and was referencing the title of the thread, not saying that you said anything about the triple option. Oh and the read option and triple option are very different. One is a play incorporated into a spread playbook and the other is philosophy that encompasses an entire playbook. no they aren't that different. a triple option is just a play where a QB can either keep the ball or hand it to one of two options. you can run it out of shotgun. hell you can run it with one RB and a WR out of the shotgun formation if you want. you're talking about the wishbone offense. a read option is in shotgun with one back. you only have two options generally but you cn sometimes have a third option. I understand that you can run it as a play, but the thread wants to know why we can't switch to a triple option offense (like Ga Southern). This would be a change in philosophy that would most likely require a change in offensive staff to run it effectively.

QB makes his read and either keeps it or gives it to a RB. triple option incorporates a FB. Triple has many versions with most running the Wishbone approach and mostly taking snap under center. Would never work here with our personnel. I remember watching Devine and Washington play for N FT Myers when they ran the Wing T version. Was very successful when you play teams that have a tough time tackling or lineman that can't move laterally. Excited to see this new spread attack live and at game seed against the Rattlers. not neccessarily a great source but from wiki In recent years, as spread offenses have become popular, many teams have begun to run variations of the triple option with the quarterback in the shotgun. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_option honestly a triple option just means a QB can either keep the ball or hand it to one of two other options. doesn't matter the formation or personnel. the read option we used in the past had generally one option but sometimes two. I'm not suggesting we run it out of the wishbone or even the i-formation(from beneath center). Just that we run the read option a lot this year (out of the shotgun with a single back) The triple option he is referring to is the Ga Southern offense which is the most common triple option. It's run out of a wishbone or full house set.

  7. It's hard to recruit Florida for an offensive line required to run the triple option. Taggart has been trying to recruit those offensive lineman for the last two years (for his run heavy scheme) and it just hasn't happened. You can run a WR at QB in the triple option, but it's all based off of 5 guys that can create great 'push Heres the thing, what youre saying sounds right on paper but in reality you honestly think GEORGIA SOUTHERN a no name school had recruited better players for their line than FLORIDA? Florida gets the best athletes in the country year in and year out. So no I dont buy that, POINT IS IF GEORGIA SOUTHERN CAN PUT TOGETHER THAT SYSTEM WE CAN TOO. Before you go all crazy caps on me, I'm trying to tell you that you aren't looking for the best athletes on the O-Line. You are looking for 300+ lbs offensive line that can dominate the line of scrimmage. In fact, they don't have to be quick and athletic, because they are literally just pushing forward. Those offenses throw about 15 times a game, so they don't need the same pass protections skills. Those offensive lineman, for one reason or another, generally reside north of florida or in the midwest region of the country. You also would need to replace your entire offensive staff to the run that scheme.

  9. We get yelled at when we merge threads ... Merge it if you may. My feelings will in not be hurt. Still the offseason ... and thought it was a good point pertaining AW running the scout team this year and how it could be advantageous to our D. Don't think Kean will be used in that capacity because with the new offense, the qb position may be a little more open to injury and we'll need at least 3 as familiar as possible with our offense. In general, if there are 4 QBs, it will be no. 4 on the depth chart. If Woulard doesn't get a waiver, he will automatically be the scout team QB. If Woulard does get a waiver, they likely decide it will be Kean and redshirt him since we have 3 other guys to take reps.
  10. Scout team will be for sure if he doesn't get the waiver since there is no possibility of playing.
  11. My hope is he gets the waiver, but Flowers or Bench wins the job and has success. If the season turns out to be miserable, I want to see what Woulard can do by mid-season.
  12. This team would not struggle facing that 2013 team opening with Matt Floyd.
  13. I could see it. He wants to be a head coach, probably could takeover a better program than ours, but if we offered a decent salary (and he didn't have a lot of other suitors), he doesn't have to move his family from Tampa. I'm not saying I'd be jumping for joy, but I could definitely see it.
  14. One day something big will happen but I can't tell you what or when. Stay tuned and remember I told you about it first. So.... You're saying someone giving people a heads up that an announcement is going to be made about a player leaving the football team, but they're unable to announce who it is yet. Is the same as what you said above? Sounds like you're just looking for something to complain about. Would you rather have every news about usf football just be a count down of when the season starts? Should ESPN stop talking about possible trades that could happen at the MLB deadline because they aren't official? Take it as it is, in the near future you will find out some roster changes. As far as I'm concerned it gives me a heads up to be on the look out and entertains me for a few hours on who I think it might be. I'm pretty sure we are fortunate to have a site like VD5 to be dedicated to the Bulls. We are a mid-major and not a lot of other programs like ours have multiple outlets to get news. Also, Collin said he does it to protect the players not because he didn't want to tell anybody.

  16. I don't really understand the 'sit a year' notion. He either gets the waiver and competes for the no. 1 job, or he doesn't get the waiver. If he gets the waiver and can't learn the offense, he won't play regardless.

  18. It all depends on the family issue that was mentioned. If it's a life threating issue (Ex: Family member has serious illness) then there's a big chance he could get cleared. If it's mommy and daddy got a divorce and I'm sad, then I agree, no chance. I think he would do better to redshirt and learn the playbook anyways, compared to wasting a year of potentially going through QB musical chairs again. But, what do I know, he may be head and shoulders better than everyone on the roster, no one really knows anything. It does him no good to sit out a year since he doesn't have his redshirt available. It's either he has 3 years of eligibility or 2 years of eligibility. I'm pretty sure he never played a down for UCLA, so he has a redshirt year to blow. So, either way, he'll have 2 years. He's going to be a true junior this year, or a redshirt junior next year. He's already used his redshirt when he didn't play that first year at UCLA, so I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. The only reason he could get another redshirt is due to specific medical reasons. Therefore, he is either eligible to play for his redshirt sophomore year or he isn't. 2016 will be his redshirt junior year and 2017 will be his redshirt senior year regardless. This does not change whether he plays or sits this year. He could also play as a graduate student I am referring to football years, not academic years. Once you are enrolled in your first full semester, your clock starts, then you essentially have 5 years to play 4 of them (not counting medical redshirts). This is regardless if you are in undergrad or grad school. Woulard would not be eligible in 2018 regardless if he was in graduate school. I was just pushing buttons... Button Game Strong
