  1. Grothe showed what he is... a Freshman. He's bound to make some mistakes. Chalk that one up as a learning lesson. It didn't help that the Offensive play calling was, well... offensive. RS opened up the passing game way too late, and even then there wern't nearly enough short range passes and slants to exploit the constant blitz. The fake punt was a major turning point in the ball game, unfortunately it swung momentum the wrong way. I think it was way too early and waaay to close to our endzone to call that play.
  2. That was a BS hit. Hitting someone when they are in the air is one thing... leading with your helmet into the other player's helmet is a penalty. He would have been ejected had it been an NFL game.
  3. Cincinasty showed that Louisville is beatable in their house... More of an exposure of UL than an affirmation of Cinnci. That was a rivalvy game that the bare-cats hadn't won in 3 years (4 now). They played a tough game... They will be tough, but with the USF offense firing on all cylinders and some decent depth at defensive line, the Bulls should have more than a good shot at beating them up there. GO BULLS!!!
  4. If we're the doormats / punching bags, then why are they only 1-2 against us all time? What does that make them? Cincy is turning out to be the disappointment of the three new BE teams. Hopefully, we'll keep them in that role for at least one more year!
  5. Spurrier will beat UF in Gainseville this year. Then that website will really fire up.
  6. CFN said it best, with the big boys coming up, the team is starting to jell at just the right time. I think we've got an honest shot at every game from here out. It'll take luck to win out, but there's no reason the Bulls won't hang with the rest of the competetion. I really think there aren't many teams that will stop our offense. Cincinnati won't roll over and play dead, but I think we look a little better on paper. Pitt looked tough, but UCF absolutely imploding on field doesn't hurt the stats. This better be a big crowd turnout! The Bulls are too hungry to let Syracuse win in Raymond James. Don't let that Louisville game fool you, that's an old rivalry that Cincy was hungry to win (haven't in over 4 years now). Cincinnati isn't that tough. I think this may have been more of an exposure of Louisville than anything. They are beatable. West Virginia is the TOUGHEST game left in the season. This one may turn into a track meet which may or may not be good... It'll be cold, their fans will be nutz, but with luck it could be for the BE crown!
  7. MidWest in the Big East Conference. This makes perfect sense when you consider all of the BE teams to the South and East of us. :-X
  8. USF will be the second team UNC (1-4, 0-3 ACC) has faced with a predominant option-oriented offensive attack. The other was Furman, which the Tar Heels defeated, 45-42, last month; but not before giving up 521 yards of total offense. If the Bulls show up, this may be their best shot at hitting 500+ yards offense in a game. Seriously, with the holes the O-line has been blasting the last two games, Williams finally clicking and Ponton returning, there is no excuse for less than 150 yards on the ground.
  9. I don't think we'll have any "easy wins" this season. Given a year or two to build more depth... then we're talking. USF is too young to play any game like they've allready won.
  10. There's a pretty good shot they can compete for it this season. Next year isn't looking too shabby, if we can replace the LB's we're losing. Not too many other seniors on the team. I say by 09, all trends being equal, the Bulls will be competing for a top 5-10 finish.
  11. Ponton rushes for 120, Williams for 100, Grothe will rush for another 80+, then Jackson and Chambers catch for 100 each. That's how the Bulls will get their first game of 500 yards of offense! ;D At least that's what I'm hoping for! Seriously, with the holes that the O-line has been blasting open the last 2 games, I think Ponton will hit 100+ yards in three quarters or less. And with the performance of Williams last weekend, this team may end up with quite a good 1-2 punch from the HB position. Don't count out Grothe's running too, he did more damage on the ground last week AFTER he got hurt.
  12. Recruiting rankings are Bull****. They pay attention to the kids that the "Big" colleges are recruiting. There is no way to come up with an accurate ranking of High School kids, without scouts at every game in the nation on Friday night. Hell even getting scouts to 1/2 or 1/4 of those games would take a small army. That's where college scouting comes in, they pay attention and rank kids based on which college is looking at them / recruiting them.
  13. This one may be a tough game... UNC is 0-4 against 1A teams. Look at those teams: Rutgers, Va Tech, Clemson and Miami. I'm not so sure the Bulls would pull off a win against any of those teams this season. They will be tough at home and this may be a close game. If the USF running game stays on track from last week (and with the return of Ponton I expect nothing less) this should turn out to be a great game for the Bulls. Grothe is too tough not to return for this one, but will the injury slow him down? Maybe, but if the rushing game shows up, he might not need to be at full speed. The defense should see a big boost at line with Josh J returning. If the D-line can bottle up the run and get some pressure on the QB, the UNC passing attack shouldn't pose too many problems. They had some brief moments of brilliance against Miami, but every time they were pressured the result was a sack or interception. The biggest concern I have for this game is: PUNTING. The turdheels (oh god what did I just step in?) came pretty close to blocking a couple of punts against Miami last week. Hopefully, the punting game will continue to improve, or there might be some trouble for us there.
  14. Sorry if anyone already posted this... South Florida (4-2) at North Carolina (1-4) 12:00 PM EST ESPNU Saturday Oct. 14 Why to Watch: After a visit to take on conference foe Miami, the Tar Heels get a visit from South Florida, the second Big East opponent to travel to Kenan Stadium with Rutgers winning the first battle in the season opener. North Carolina's season is quickly slipping into the abyss getting outscored 99 to 14 over the last two weeks and failing to beat a D-I team so far. Any hope for a bowl season has to start by beating a USF team coming off a victory over Connecticut 38-16 to keep Big East hopes alive. With a winnable game against Cincinnati next week, USF can set itself up nicely for bowl eligibility with a win. Why South Florida Might Win: The USF defense is as stingy as any unit in the country having not given up more than 22 points in any game this season and rely heavily on their talented trio at linebacker – Stephen Nicholas, Ben Moffitt and Patrick St. Louis. Although the defense continues to play well, it’s the play of QB Matt Grothe that's finally given their offense a true offensive threat averaging 275 yards per game. North Carolina doesn't have an answer on offense if the Bulls start getting on a roll. Why North Carolina Might Win: Tar Heel fans know Rutgers RB Ray Rice intimately, and so does the Bull defense. Against USF, Rice cranked out 202 yards on the ground showing that there is hope to get the ground game going. UNC RBs Ronnie McGill and Barrington Edwards have the potential to carry the load and come up with a good game if the offensive line does its part. Coming up with a power game will be a must. Who to Watch: USF CB Trae Williams is fourth in the nation with five picks and is on his way to All-Big East honors and possibly more. He has an opportunity to add to that total against UNC QB Cam Sexton, who has thrown six interceptions in the last four games. The redshirt freshman suffered a mild concussion against the Canes last week, but he's expected to play. For the Tar Heels to have a chance, he has to be far more effective after completing just 16 of 50 passes over the last two week. What Will Happen: The Bulls don’t ever win pretty, but they do win with a physically aggressive defense and an opportunistic offensive unit. The Bulls won’t score much, nor will they need to. The defense will hold the Tar Heels to less than 125 yards rushing and Grothe will pick apart the Heels secondary to help lead them to win number five. CFN Prediction: South Florida 23 … North Carolina 14 ... Line: South Florida -2.5 Must See Rating: (5 skip the birth of your first born - 1 The Class) ... 2
  15. No way UL and WVa would both go to a BCS game, they play each other too late in the season. USF can make that game meaningless anyway!
  16. F*CK NO!!! Grothe has proven he can be a starter, a leader and one tough cookie! He has shown that he will perform under pressure.
  17. Had we beat UConn last year, the WVa game would have pulled 55K+.
