  3. actually the only four bowl games in the history of army football
  4. you can theoretically spend as much time as a you want at a prep school like hargrave or fork union without having it start your eligibility clock because unlike a JUCO, you are not earning any college credit and the football you are playing is not affiliated with the NCAA or NJCAA. some guys stay for two years because they aren't satisfied with their offers and want to improve their stock, and some stay until they can get a high enough test score to be an NCAA qualifier. here's a bio of one of UNC's safeties who did this exact same thing. he spent two years at fork union then went on to be a four year starter at UNC. you can see he was 24 years old as a senior. http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/taylor_kareen00.html
  5. not so fast my friend http://www.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/stories/071906aai.html http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/mensbasketball/sec/2006-07-19-kentucky-violations_x.htm "The NCAA is pretty strict: There's four people who are allowed to have contact with a recruit, and those are the coaches on the basketball staff."
  6. tell matt to take his time and let grant have spring ball.
  7. ok, i'll settle this.... i was at the football offices the other day looking at players official heights and weights measured by the strength and conditioning staff.  grothe is right at 6'0" tall with no shoes on and weighed in at 200 lbs at the end of the summer, and i believe 194 at the end of the regular season.  he's not daunte culpepper or anything, but the guy isn't a rail, he's spent some time in the weight room. some guys sizes on the roster are dead on, some guys weights and/or heights are really inflated and a few are deflated.
  8. brian kelly has no obligation to do anything further for that program. this is the right way to do it. for brian kelly, his top priorities are getting UC prepared for their bowl game and recruiting the best class he can to UC despite a late start. why would CMU want him to coach their bowl game anyway....he's now the cincinnati head coach. he has no legal, moral or ethical reasons to do anything at all for CMU. you're either the CMU head coach or the UC head coach, not both. try googling bo schembechler and "michigan man"
  9. i'll be there....only a three and a half hour drive for me.
  10. i emailed the bigeast.org website about it on monday and got this response within a matter of hours.... Hi Tate, You are indeed correct that they should be listed that way - but we ultimately do not take those tiebreakers into account until the end of the season when all of the games have been played. Right now, they are listed alphabetically by school. Thanks for your email - and your attention to detail! Ben
  11. tell me, what would think of the level of play in a game producing the following numbers..... 5 fumbles 1130 yards 60 first downs 79 combined points 200 yards rushing by a QB in a "gimmick" spread offense relying heavily on a finesse/zone read running game. in case you were wondering that game was played january 4, 2006 between texas and usc.
  12. in the Kansas and Rutgers losses combined USF has gone a combined 0 for 1 on fourth down attempts, with the one attempt being on the opening drive against kansas. gotta love well-researched articles.
  13. unlike football and basketball, players don't declare themselves to be eligible for the draft, they are eligible in certain years. i'm sure someone can add more to this, but all high school seniors are eligible to be drafted in the MLB draft. if you are not drafted or do not sign directly out of high school, you will again be eligible three years later and i believe every subsequent draft while you still have college eligibility. tons of players are drafted twice, and theoretically, i think a guy could be drafted up to 4 times. HS senior, then after his 3rd, 4th and 5th year of college. i've got a buddy who was drafted in the 2001 draft as a HS senior in the 19th round by the marlins, he decided on college. he pitched three years in college and was drafted in the 6th round by the white sox in the 2004 draft. three years of college improved his stock by 13 rounds. lord knows how many mid-round high schoolers sign only to be out of baseball in a year or two with no more amateur eligibility.
  14. a student that chooses to pursue a liberal arts or any other non career degree knows exactly what their degree will do for them from the time they start college. if a kid goes after a "pro athlete preparation" degree he obviously thinks he has a chance to play professionally. many, many college athletes have an inflated view of their own talents and 99% of freshman football and basketball player thinks they've got a shot to play in the pros........hell i've never met a college basketball player who didn't think he had a shot at the NBA. by the time these guys are junior or seniors 90% of them realize that is not a realistic option in their future. allowing football/basketball players to major in "pro athlete preparation" would be taking away whatever semblance of "student-athletes" there still is.
  15. the trouble would be a ton of football and basketball players would choose this major while an incredibly small percentage actually have the talent to put this "degree" to use.  you'd have a million "college graduates" with a degree less impressive than an 8th grade diploma.
  16. horrible, horrible rule. prevents football players from playing football.
  17. thanks, but this is probably the only time you'll see me posting on here (although i lurk roughly 22 hours a day)....mainly due to the fact that it's a saturday night and i'm having a good time.  with my relationships to the program i don't really think it's appropriate to post my opions or the "inside knowledge" i get.
  18. probably wouldn't have been errant if a certain free safety had thrown it . i've made a vow not to comment on the QB position.....this after lasting 8 months on my vow not to post on here before breaking down today....i don't count my post a few months ago on the marcus vick situation because cee is a complete moron.
  19. at least you can see...i'm 1500 miles away and i've heard a total of 4 defensive players names...which really sucks cuz this is the first time in my life i've cared about defense.
  20. i'm grant gregory's older brother and this is the first time i've ever not been to a "game" of his that he was actually playing in. i'm stuck listening to the press pass and the announcer never says who made the tackle. grant's on white team and it seems like green has been on offense 70% of the snaps but the broadcaster never says who makes the tackle. i guess i can assume he's playing decent since they're pitchin a shutout, but this is driving me nuts.
