  1. Canzano: Phil Knight talking with Big Ten? Meanwhile, Pac-12 and ESPN in "productive" talks What I learned over the weekend...
  2. There's enough room on the wagon for all the UF/FSU fans.
  3. If he ends up at UCF, it is likely a great decision. Oviedo is right down the street from Sanford. With all of the traffic, it is a miserable commute from Tampa to Sanford. If you are going to sit on the sideline a year or two, might as well do it in the most comfortable situation.
  4. The news that the Big 10 may continue to expand has to be incredibly damaging to the PAC-12. Obviously, this all depends on if ND will make a move. However, it comes at a terrible time for PAC-12 negotiations. That said, I am not sure the Big-12 would get much more per team.
  5. A 4 team playoff seems like a dream compared to the old days. Like in 1997 when FSU #1 lost to UF #3 in the Sugar Bowl and then you had to watch the Rose Bowl to see if ASU #2 would win the national championship or if Ohio State #4 would win it for UF. Crazy times.
  6. Seems like Deja Vu. Is this 1980? And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobileAnd you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wifeAnd you may ask yourself, "Well, how did I get here?" Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
  7. Regardless of on field outcomes, I don't see Jeff Scott going anywhere after this season. Fans will be fans but Michael Kelly has been saying this "Keep Calm and Carry on" since 2018. Kelly is going to point to adding women's beach volleyball, lacrosse, the IPF and the OCS as to his accomplishments and Rhea Law is going to be good with that. Does anyone get the impression from the administration that this is some kind of "make or break" season for CJS? I don't sense that vibe. Feels like they have told him to ignore the noise, we got your back, you just build your program. I keep hearing people puzzled by the extensions but it's obvious that Kelly mostly cares about continuity. Michael Kelly preaches patience with future of USF’s athletics department In an increasing now-or-never college landscape where coaching turnover is an everyday occurrence, USF athletics director Michael Kelly is preaching patience when...
  8. Will Turner article on WR room. The position battle that’s been overshadowed at the start of USF's 2022 fall camp Whoever USF selects as its starting quarterback, they've got to get the ball to somebody.
  9. You feel this media campaign by the Big 12. We hear, the Pac-12 is getting lowballed by ESPN at $24.5 million per school per year with just the 10 staying. Then we hear, the Big 12 expects $42.6 million a year with the 12 schools after Texas and OU leave. Makes no sense but that is what is pushing the narrative. Commissioner George Kliavkoff -- Pac-12 steady despite USC, UCLA departures Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff dismissed the idea that the Big 12 is a more desirable location than his conference, noting the projected value of each league's...
  10. Pac-12 has been 'fractured' by Big Ten, Big 12 conference realignment, expansion chatter The Pac-12 has been 'fractured' over college realignment, according to one insider, and Arizona and ASU could be on different sides of the divide. From an AZ paper.
  11. Hard to see many of the Pac-12 schools being interested in being involved with the likes of TCU, Baylor and BYU. Sure will get interesting.
  12. Live Feed of Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego. They are laying sod right now. Snapdragon Stadium San Diego State Snapdragon Stadium
  13. Nope but it will likely merge into it soon.
  14. When the Big Plan to save your football conference is to reject ESPN's TV offer and try to promote Villanova to football, you are going to have problems.
  15. I agree with Triple B. Went to the ESPN Go Boards in 1998 and UCF fans were immediately hostile. Said Leavitt was scared to play them. I find it quite amusing that the UCF narrative was that we "blocked" them in 2012. I have no issue with not being in a conference with UCF.
  16. 35k to start is smart. Build demand. College attendance is down. A gameday atmosphere is better when there aren't a sea of empty seats. Nippert Stadium is only 40k at present and was 35k till 2014.
  17. It's the circle of life. Doesn't seem all that long ago that we were in a conference with UAB and Charlotte (UNCC).
  18. I think the future is bright especially if Scott continues to bring in decent recruits and transfers. Superior talent on the field more often than not will overcome bad coaching. I like that Jeff Scott appears to be willing to focus on recruiting. He still has to learn to coach but that will come.
  19. I think several were on this board were ready to move on from CJL in 2009. I was one of them. USF athletics appeared to be on an upward trajectory and it appeared that CJL had peaked. He was a victim of his own success and unrealistic raised expectations with no additional resources. We saw the new baseball stadium coming (2011), then the remodel of the Sundome (2015) and then nothing. Had we known in 2009 that no IPF was coming for 13 more years, that ESPN & TV were going to blow up that conference model, we would have had a very different opinion of what USF's future was going to look like and saw the need not for a "potential upgrade" but continuity.
  20. I think you are agreeing with my point. I never said she "wanted" to decimate the football program. I said she was going to decimate it. Which she did. I didn't specify motive. You are saying if she had been more hands off, things would have been better. I would agree. Ultimately, her vision was USF was going to be the Stanford of South but she didn't want to spend that kind of money on athletics. Skip was a squeaky clean figure. An anti-Leavitt. Taggart was a reversal of that and I believe the admins immediately regretted it. Administration has reiterated they wanted the nice, public relations friendly guy so now we have Jeff Scott. Genshaft improved the university from a research and academic standpoint. Maybe athletics was going to have to be neglected in order to do that. That is a different argument. Either way, Genshaft and administration seemed eager to rid themselves of CJL. Thus, my point is, in hindsight, the change was coming whether it was 2010 or 2012 or 2014....it was going to happen. CJL likely couldn't improve the product on the field without additional resources that were not coming.
  21. Genshaft was going to decimate the football program regardless if CJL survived the investigation. Woolard and Harlan are good examples of what Genshaft thought of athletics. There was no investment. Not that anyone really saw the arms race coming but it would not have mattered. Genshaft is a politician and she didn’t like the bad publicity. CJL was a holdover from Castor and Selmon. CJL might have been able to hold on for a few more seasons but the fan base already had high expectations. Just like a bad owner in professional sports can mess up a good product, so can a bad administration in college. USF had to go down 2 levels before anyone decided to take notice of the problem.
  22. I haven't seen the plans but prior news releases state that the facility is climate controlled, so yes it will have insulation and HVAC. Typically with PEMB, your HVAC is on the ground. IPF Groundbreaking Marks New Era For USF Athletics - USF Athletics The $22-million Indoor Performance Facility is slated for completion before next fall.
  23. Yes it is up. I work in Structural Steel and these PEMB's (Pre-engineered Metal Building) go up very fast.
  24. This thread reminds me of the opening scene of Spaceballs. It just keeps going.
  25. Lacrosse and now Beach Volleyball. USF is growing.
