  1. NO, athletics will not fund the academic side. I don't think anyone is making that argument. But that's not what we're talking about here. The study I want to see is how successful athletics impacts applications to a university, the number and quality of the applicants, school fundraising, membership in the alumni association, etc. Those things do impact the academic side of the university.
  2. While they are truly bright folks, the academics ALWAYS have a tough time grasping the concept that a strong, visible athletic program positively impacts every aspect of a university - admissions, infrastructure, fundraising, alumni engagement, etc., etc. It’s not really that difficult, but wouldn’t it be shocking to read a story where a leader on the academic side of a university says, “Hell yeah! Let’s do it! All boats rise.” USF faculty not sold on Bulls’ $340 million football stadium plan “It seems to me like the dangers outweigh the positives,” the Faculty Senate vice president says.
  3. And they spell Cebert’s name wrong. Well done, AAC
  4. A couple other notes: the Giants sent David Villar back to the farm. He had a chance to grab the everyday 3rd base job, but has really struggled at the plate - hitting just .148 with 4 HR. On the other hand, Colorado HAS to bring Coco Montes up. He’s still tearing up AAA like he did last year. He’s hitting .323 with 7 HRs.
  5. Rays get a run off Pete without a hit and lead 1-0. HBP, stolen base, throw goes into CF and a sac fly.
  6. Sugar Shane with 7 shutout innings tonight and Pete Strzelecki in now in relief for the Brewers. Scoreless in the 8th.
  7. Right, not enough teams and only 11-12 on each roster. That's pretty tough to crack.
  8. Elena did not make the Washington roster, but Dulcy did in Seattle.
  9. Just FYI, one of the new support staff additions - Director of Video and Scouting - is Riley Crean, son of Coach Tom Crean (who I kinda liked for the job).
  10. Well, baring a complete miracle in Clearwater, decision time is coming. Regardless of our buddy Olaf, since we know where he stands, we're probably staring down the barrel of a near 40-loss season, last place in the AAC, losers of 16 of our last 18, and have to make a decision on the leadership of a program that looks totally headed in the wrong direction. If we do lose out and go 19-39, we'll be 29-61 since league play started last season. We have a non-existent pitching staff that doesn't really look to have much in the way of promising young arms (outside of maybe Cebert) unless Gailey, Jackson and Dorsey all make the big strides we had hoped Cebert, Grause and Dietz would this season. We saw how that turned out. We'll lose two of our top four average, home run and RBI producers (and what to do if, for some reason, Boser and Snow decide to depart?). It's almost a total rebuild at this point, so do you let CBM attempt the rebuild or someone else?
  11. Thanks, buddy! We're very proud of her, for sure. And if you ever visit the Marshall Center, you'll see she left her legacy at USF. Her name is on the walls there in three places for her academic achievements. GO BULLS!
  12. Next name up to watch may be Jalen Haynes - the transfer from ETSU. Big body, banger that we could use.
  13. By my count, that makes 11, so we should have two more spots open. One source I read says we may not see Dante Oliver sign - that he may go to a prep school for a year to get stronger, etc. because he's probably not physically ready for DI yet.
  14. Nice! Four-star PG Jayden Reid commits to South Florida Jayden Reid, the No. 28 ranked point guard in the 2023 class, has verbally committed to South Florida.
  15. Hasn't been reported yet, so hang tight. Nothing much on his Twitter.
  16. "If you had seen the games, you would have seen teams leaving Wilson wide open in order to double-team Tsineke and Dulcy. You would have also seen, with the shot clock running down . . . " How do you know what he saw or didn't see? And what make your observations more valid than his? Let me answer: NOTHING I know you didn't like it when I questioned you comparing high school competition in North Carolina to Big XII competition, but that was hardly "degrading" to you personally. No need for you to respond, because this will be our last interaction on this board.
  17. You seem fairly knowledgeable, but the "you must not watch" and "you should know this" crud in your posts is pretty off-putting. Just some friendly advice: Post your opinions, but you don't need to degrade other posters in the process. Rules of engagement: You = fail
  18. Looks like New York high school PG Jayden Reid will be announcing his choice at 4 p.m. We're in the running. He'd be a good young guy to add to the mix to be our future point.
  19. Always good to bring alums back and hopefully they have some extra fire for their alma mater.
  20. Speechless. The day we sit in that stadium for its opening, we'll be shedding some tears, boys.
  21. I think Brito will make the splash play at times, but Gonzalez will ultimately be steady and reliable.
  22. Practically everyone in college hoops is going to have to contend with the new roster every year concept. The ones that do will be successful. It definitely helps us that he's bringing three of his guys from KSU. That should help ease some of it.
  23. Daniela Gonzalez needs more love. She's going to be a starter on this team at some point and a significant player before she leaves. I was surprised at how flat her shot was last year because she once made NINE threes in a game as a prep. Her free throws looked like Shae Leverett's - line drive. Always wondered why they never got Shae to work on that arc? In any event, mark it down, Daniela is going to be a very good player for us for the next three years.
