  1. While few QB's are ready in the preseason practices straight away (barring those guys that could have been drafted but stayed back), Rod saying this is still kinda funny. After all, he's had julmiste for YEARS. It would be hard to blame either of them entirely just yet, but how many years of bad QB play in a row do you guys need? Hopefully it stops at 3.
  2. I don't know. I've seen a certain disgruntled fan go so far as firing a flare gun at a player in that sport. I think I'd rather take my chances with the guy in front of me...both of us in pads...if I had to pick.
  3. resilience = 10 wins 13 losses If only he could translate some of that "resilience" into "calmness" as Blackwell suggests. If PJ would quit getting happy feet and/or rocketing the ball off target, I'd bet he'd at least complete closer to 2/3 of his passes instead of 1/2.
  4. Nah, he should have kept it on. By doing so, he appeared less threatening to the bull .
  5. I wholeheartedly feel that Kansas State was among the best schools ever at doing this, and remains high on the all time list, just for their 90's exploits.
  6. If you pay attention to college football news in general, things like what happened to Hill seem to be rampant this year. Miami, Oklahoma, USC, and QUITE A few others are running into similar trouble. In our case, at least it was a guy who was somewhat unproven (no guarantee he would have been our best option). In Miami's and OU's cases, they lost a proven and needed starter (although Miami only loses Moss for one game, that is going to HURT against FSU.)
  7. ya think, so much for building FAU into the mighty juggernaut he predicted. They averaged 10k fans last year that attended the games and many feel they're fudging their numbers too. That was with a huge home game against OKST on ESPN in which they had a whopping 16k at the game, but ESPN and everyone watching thought it was around 7-8k. Can you believe fudging 10k, their season tixs are stuck around 5k, and after getting beat 52-6 to neighboring FIU their future turned a bit bleak. Lucky for them no one is watching or else they'd realize what a horrible idea it was to go 1-A. Let's not forget that the only thing keeping them solvent, or close to it, is the $1M or so dollars they're earning each year going to be homecoming fodder for a number of different opponents. This year, they start the season @Clemson, @KSU, @OKST, and @South Carolina then @UL Monroe for their first five games. An 0-5 start is almost imminent. How can you build a program on that? If last year is any indication their first home game is against Southern Utah (a 1-AA team we throttled once), and you can expect an announced crowd somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-8k. Way to go Schnelly. Sure he's earned the right to talk, but it doesn't matter anymore because as many would attest you're only as good as your present performance. FAU's going to have to keep the 69 year old around as long as possible because his legacy is the only thing that's keeping any interest at all in their tired, dead program. I am still waiting on the National Championship game. Following the 2004 season (which they did ok in), they lost a lot of starters. I have a feeling they'll do better this season...not much of a stretch though. As for your predictions, and 0-5 start is possible, but I'm thinking 1-4 . They have a shot @ ULM, and every once in a while better teams just up and lose (see our homecomming game against army). Playing the odds, I'd say 1-4. Agree that this is no wat for them to start a season. No winning team, BCS school or not, opens up with 5 straight road games. It's hard on the players, even in terms of just pure stress. If schnelly comes out 3-2 or better in his first 5 games this season he becomes a god of football, literally.
  8. That's true, except for the preseason poll. Technically, Spurrier can say he truly believes Duke to be the #25 team in the nation this year. From what he's heard and saw, they've improved. That's all he has to say...as preseason rankings are worthless. If he still has duke in his top 25 after they're 2-3 or worse, then i'd be worried. Then again, we see teams in the top 25 with losing or 2-2 records all the time. They're not nearly fluid enough.
  9. You sure he's still going to be around by the time we could possibly play them?!
  10. He really did! That was the best part. No, actually the 19-2 TD-INT ratio was. We led the nation in turnover margin that year. MB remains 2nd in most passes attempted without a pick in college. If we had him next year, we would be legit BE contenders, maybe even rightful favorites. His decision making was that good.
  11. 1) the high rainbow where our receiver goes up to get it over a shorter DB. This is among the only throws PJ can make, so lets use it! Its even cooler when he yells "50 points!!!!!" as he throws it. Use this when appropriate, its good and USF is not the only team that does it. 2) the option play (Pat had some nice gains at times last year). If we're using PJ, we might as well actually USE him. His running is probably his strength, as he's a load to bring down. However, I have doubts about this guy running it well on a consistant basis. 4-5 times a game would work. 3) the lateral throw to a receiver who tries to be a running back. Not to be confused with the screen play? Typically, this is the same thing, and we should run it a couple times a game - preferably when the opponent is blitzing. The trick play - lateral to the WR who then throws it, should be EXTREMELY rare. 4) the end-around - Well, we all harbor some negative feelings about this being used too much. I'd only like to see it about once every other game or so. It is very, very strong against d lineman that crash one way too much. This is something that needs be seen upstairs before it is called! 5) not huddling, including the quick snap - I don't care. I'd prefer the huddle. Defense is our strength, and any time you call crap at the line is harder on the QB. We don't have that kind of QB right now fellas.
  12. Hahahahahahahahahaha. This is the best series of predictions out there yet. It has the same value in terms of who wins and loses, but on top of that is actually entertaining. This would sell. I bet ANYBODY who reads this would laugh, for one reason or another.
  13. Actually the very first thing that crept into my mind upon seeing it was parking.
  14. Rather than worrying about it I'm happy to see that our training program is producing people that are worthy of moving up the ranks. That indicates that the people in charge of that are teaching assistants well, and probably running a good system here. If only our Offensive Coordinating was so good that teams wanted to hire him or our QB coach away...and I dont mean buffalo.
  15. he needs to worry about scoring AT LEAST A POINT IN A BOWL GAME before we can even whisper the words "promise land".. we're still not a blip on the radar. slow your roll. Now now. All usf has to do is pull of an upset or two and we might find ourselves winning the conference. We're not in national title considerations yet, although if we went undefeated we'd at least get ESPN telling everyone why we still dont deserve to go . Either way, if we finish the conference in the lead, pretty much the whole nation that bothers to watch major bowl games will see it. I'm wondering where we're going to end up. My prediction is an 8-4 season with a bowl win. I would be horrified if we managed to fall short of 7 wins by the end of the season, and **** happy with 10. 10 win seasons are enough to get you some attention, momentum, and preseason rankings (so you dont have to go jumping as many schools) to ACTUALLY have a NC shot. We will have a BE title shot every year from now on. That's no small thing...but I wanna see it!
  16. A 3 year deal there huh? I'm surprised, given their unfounded investment in benson over jones anyway. But hey, as long as andre has a roster spot, its good for him at this point in time. The bears are pretty much the only team in their division right now...the vikings might give em a lil push but I dont see either them or the packers making the playoffs just yet.
  17. I don't care! It shouldn't change anything. The arguments over this are getting ridiculous. We'll play it if our AD wants to. I personally think we should, because we'd get higher attendance that way. When in doubt, an attendance boost is never a bad thing.
  18. I don't care if the UCF people post here about this. The way I see it, anyone who follows our program to this extent is another person who knows about it, and therefore another person who could (even inadvertantly) give us exposure. No problems with that. This news is a shame because hill is a good athlete. I didn't see him throwing the ball much better than PJ, but he could have added to our depth at WR or a defensive position. I'd still like to see him clean up his act so we can redshirt him. Ideally, he could take a brian fisher role without ALL those problems.
  19. Firing the staff he did was a mistake. Some of those guys are among the best at their positions. For example, didn't UM fire their OL coach? OC or QB coach I could see there, but their OL had been solid and well coached for years...
  20. Might he just be waiting out the contract so we don't have to pay 2 coaches at once?
  21. On O: Probably ricky ponton or someone from the line. On D: My best guess is josh julmiste, though look out for jenkins and gachette as well.
  22. My favorite NFL team is getting healthy again! Hope to see Reed do well on returns. One thing to note is that the Eagles don't have a history of giving 30+ year old players long contracts or extensions. Why would you fellow bulls and ponderous bucs fans care? Well, JR might get a look there as a result. Although Brian Dawkins is one of my favorite all time players to watch, it would lessen the pain a bit if JR Reed winds up being next in line.
  23. I partially disagree with this. Our recruting in football is fine, basketball I'm not so sure about. Coaches do have to work harder, but the focus shouldn't be recruiting as much as improving the talent we get (in football), which is significant. Basketball is a mess. Players leaving the team, getting hurt, etc. An interesting point is that throughout history, wartime generals did the best when they kept soldiers healthy, and sports teams win the most games when their players are healthy. Bad comparison? Of course. It does drive home a point however. Teams need players that can not only make plays, but do it every game. There's a GOOD reason NFL teams drop players with injury problems down their draft boards. Some people are much better at avoiding injury than others, whether by training or instinct. I also agree that recruits magically get better or worse in their ratings depending on the school they choose, quite a strong argument that recruiting rankings are worthless. Take UF under Ron Zook for example.
  24. More money thrown into recruiting on overrated prospects. Honestly, I'd rather see us spending money on strength and conditioning programs over recruiting (though obviously on both to some extent). Some people have talent, potential, or whatever. However, the difference between a guy who runs a 4.4 and benches 300 and a guy that run a 4.3 and benches 315 isnt that great. The one that's lower when they hit will win. The one that is in better position will win. Most athletes that USF gets can be trained to a comparable level as the 5 star guys. A lot of these 5 stars are overrated. Some aren't...its hard to tell how a kid will perform once he runs into stronger competition, tougher training, and more intelligent opponents. I say we'll get somewhat of a boost once we are ranked, but I'll also say that finding better QB coaching and an OC are about 50x more important than any hike in our recruiting budget. For a team that has the talent that USF does, discipline should be a MUCH higher priority!
