  1. Defense played pretty good tonight. To hold FSU to 23 (not counting the fumble TD) is pretty impressive considering how many points they've been putting on their opponents.
  2. FYI, I am in Dallas today and am watching via ESPN3. I set my phone as a WIFI hotspot, connected my laptop to it, then logged in with my FiOS account. Streaming it fine up to a TV via HDMI from the laptop.
  3. While good in theory, radio is usually AHEAD of TV. So you would need to "pause" your radio somehow.
  4. There's always a delay between TV and radio. Radio is spoken and gets transmitted right away (or a very small delay). TV has a lot of processing to do, then they have a delay they put on it too (probably a longer one than radio), then it has to be broadcasted to all of the cable companies/service providers who then retransmit it to all of their subscribers. There's a lot more jumps than required with radio. The only way to get them in sync is to use something to add a delay to the radio broadcast you're listening to.
  5. Not necessarily .... unless things have changed, I imagine there are still plenty of USF students who root for FSU first ... sadly. This. Was on campus two weeks ago, helping the gf run an event at the MSC. Some jackass comes in dressed head to toe in fsu gear. His story was that even though he was a usf student he still cheered for fsu. I told him that's dumb and showed a severe lack of self respect. I don't think he was smart enough to understand. As for student tickets, they usually do check IDs with tickets at the gates but I've been told that tickets can be photoshopped to change names. Not sure if there's any truth to that or not. If that's the case, even with a photoshopped ticket the "ticket purchaser" would still need a USF ID. Correct?
  6. Don't they check Student ID's to get into the game with a student ticket? If that's the case wouldn't it be pretty much impossible to sell a student ticket (and that person get into the game)?
  7. Sorry, no exact matches were found, but other tickets may still be available on Ticketmaster.com. Must be sold out.
  8. I'm hoping for ESPN3 if it's not picked up by ABC or something. Last game we watched on ESPN3 was almost HD quality.
  9. Here's a speed test I just did. It's pretty fast!
  10. I did like how Raheem and Gruden supported the "local team" which I don't really see happening here. It was good for the community. Hopefully he'll come around eventually.
  11. We're playing just as I expected us to play this year. So at least I'm not too upset. If you prepare yourself ahead of time it makes it easier. A little alcohol helps too
  12. You typically pay pro-rated rates for stuff like that you can add and remove. Don't quote me on that though. FiOS has CBSSN but not in HD. They don't have a contract for the HD version of the channel. Dish and DirectTV are the only providers that have the HD contract with CBSSN.
  13. They started rolling this out last year as a test to the suite-holders at the Bucs games. It was encrypted back then and they gave us the password. It's been beefed up quite a bit since then and opened up for everyone to use. While it worked well a few weeks ago at a Bucs game, I didn't have a good signal in my seat in 124 during the Bulls game this Saturday. So I just stuck with my 4G. The access points must not be set up to reach out far enough into the endzones. I will note though that if you get a good signal it is quite fast for free internet. I did a speed test at the Bucs game and got around 15 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload. This was prior to the game though so there weren't a ton of people on it yet.
  14. I just got the email saying I was awarded my extra tickets. Thank you for submitting your request for the USF vs. Florida State game. This email stands as a notification that your request for the additional tickets to the USF vs. Florida State game has been approved. Total charges for your Florida State ticket order will be applied to the credit card used during the request process. Seat locations will be assigned at a later date using the USF Athletics Priority Point System and tickets will be mailed approximately 7-10 days prior to the game on .September 29th. All tickets requested are non-refundable. Thanks and Go Bulls!
  15. Indeed! You gotta admit, that was creepy. You'd be surprised at the number of people who miss the old 'crates falling off the truck' intro video. It seems that that video is the baseline for approval...."not as good as", etc. Not saying go back to that, but at least float some sort of project that is inspirational and motivating. It must be one monumental task to put together something like that, otherwise we'd have it in place. I don't think tradition can be manufactured. Tough work. Yep, each new video every year doesn't come close to "the boxes" video that we used to have. That's always the standard to compare each new intro video to. Unfortunately it seems every year it keeps getting worse and worse. The intro video this year is horrible. Doesn't get me pumped up as a fan one bit. For those who weren't around then here's what "the boxes" video is that everyone is referring to:
  16. I remember back in like 2001-2004 or so I was pissed if we didn't win by at least 30 pts. It was so commonplace.
  17. USF to announce 'music icon' to usher in new Sun Dome By TBO.com | TBO.com TAMPA University of South Florida officials have set a 10 a.m. news conference today to announce a "music icon" who will perform as part of the Sun Dome's grand opening. Officials say the concert will take place Sept. 14. The arena, which has undergone a $35  million top-to-bottom renovation, was unveiled during the USF graduation ceremonies last month. New features include seating for 10,000 for basketball games, larger seats in some sections, wider concourses, improved amenities, and a state-of-the-art video board. Officials are hoping the improvements allow it to become a venue that could rival the Tampa Bay Times Forum and the 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds in attracting concerts and other events. This will be the third prominent musical act to be booked at the Sun Dome since its reopening. Florence and The Machine, a pop-rock band that achieved considerable success in Britain before receiving a Grammy Award nomination for best new artist last year, will play the USF Sun Dome on Sept. 25. The King's Men Tour, featuring gospel music giants Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Donnie McClurkin and Israel Houghton, is performing Oct. 2. Link
  18. Zero means that you have no points left. One more screwup and you're a gonner!!
  19. I'm assuming the video is taken just before the game (as the team runs out during the video). There is NO ONE in the stands!
  20. Here's Bianchi's latest post: Gov. Rick Scott should get behind UCF’s Big East bid just like Virginia governor did Uncategorized — posted by mike bianchi on January, 26 2011 9:06 PM New Florida Gov. Rick Scott should step in if USF is indeed trying to block UCF’s path into the Big East.. When I suggested political intervention in a column earlier this week, several readers claimed it would be unprecedented for the government to step in and try to mediate between two state rivals. Not exactly. Let us not forget it was a threat from the state government that forced Florida to finally agree to schedule Florida State back in 1958. And just a few years ago when the ACC was expanding, Virginia Gov. Mark Warner wielded his power to force Virginia to back Virginia Tech. Many University of Virginia fans and boosters weren’t crazy about the idea, but Warner applied pressure to Virginia President John Casteen so that Virginia would support Virginia Tech’s admission into the ACC. As a result, Virginia not only voted in favor of ACC expansion but with the caveat that Virginia Tech must be one of the expansion teams. See what a little political coercion can do? Gov. Rick Scott should do the same thing for UCF. He not only needs to make sure USF isn’t trying to obstruct UCF’s path into the Big East, he needs to make sure USF is clearing UCF’s path into the Big East. It’s like I wrote in my column earlier this week: “UCF and USF are both state-funded institutions of higher learning in an economic climate where universities are having to scrimp and scrape for every dollar they can get. For one state school to vote against and try to block another state school from gaining access to millions and millions of BCS dollars would be unpardonable.†UCF is the biggest university in Florida and the second-biggest in the nation. Our governor and legislature need to get behind the the Knights and make sure everything possible is done to get them to the next level — academically and athletically. If that means exerting political pressure on USF President Judy Genshaft then so be it. Link
  21. Maybe she doesn't want to waste her/her aid's time answering questions about this crap. I guarantee there are at least a dozen inquiries a day requesting her comments on things. I'd be surprised if she answered more than 1 or 2 of those. It's the same as if you contacted Rick Scott on a subject. Chances are you wouldn't get a response from him. They're too busy to deal with the petty crap.
  22. Some of the comments by the delusional UCiFers are pretty funny. They take what Bianchi writes as the truth when there's not any fact in the entire article.
  23. OrlandoSentinel.com Is USF blocking UCF's way into the Big East? If so, Gov. Scott needs to step in Mike Bianchi SPORTS COMMENTARY 7:24 PM EST, January 25, 2011 Hopefully, this is not true. Hopefully, all of the concerns on UCF's part are based on bad information. Hopefully, all of the whispers you hear about the University of South Florida trying to block UCF from gaining an invitation to the Big East are emanating from message boards and not meeting rooms. But I'm starting to wonder. Really wonder. "We have been hearing this, too," UCF spokesperson Grant Heston said in an e-mailed response to the Sentinel about USF obstructing UCF's potential path into the Big East. "We hope it's not true, because our joining the Big East would clearly be a win-win for both universities." Here's all you need to know about Heston's response: If he is issuing a public statement of any kind on the issue, then UCF President John Hitt is clearly concerned that the Bulls may be lobbying against UCF joining them in the prestigious and profitable Big East. Heston would not issue a statement of any kind unless Hitt put his stamp of approval on it. Then there is USF's suspicious silence on this issue. When I tried to contact USF President Judy Genshaft last week and early this week to ask her feelings about the Big East potentially inviting UCF, the university's publicity department said she would have no comment on the issue. "All Big East expansion inquiries need to be directed to Big East Commissioner John Marinatto," a school publicist said in an e-mail. "He is the sole spokesperson on this issue." A Big East spokesperson would not comment on the UCF-USF issue. Funny, but other Big East representatives, including Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino and USF football coach Skip Holtz, have commented in the past about UCF joining the Big East. If Genshaft wanted UCF in the Big East, she would have gladly commented publicly on the issue. In fact, she would be doing everything in her power to let the world know she is pulling for her sister institution gaining access to the big money and big exposure of the Big East. But once again, it seems, USF could be playing petty politics in order to keep UCF down. Not that we should be surprised. We've certainly seen it before when USF ended a perfectly good football rivalry between the two schools because the Bulls felt they were above playing the Knights. Instead, they play opponents like Wofford and Stony Brook, robbing fans of a raucous rivalry that would make a lot of money and stir a lot of passion for both schools. If, in fact, USF is trying to keep UCF out of the Big East then it's time for the governor or state legislature to step in and tell Genshaft to quit being so myopic. UCF and USF are both state-funded institutions of higher learning in an economic climate where universities are having to scrimp and scrape for every dollar they can get. For one state school to vote against and try to block another state school from gaining access to millions and millions of BCS dollars would be unpardonable. If new Gov. Rick Scott is serious about putting this state back to work and spurring the economy, he might start with ordering USF's Genshaft to pave the way for UCF; not block the path. Think of the economic impact of UCF and USF in the same BCS conference. Think of the sellout stadiums when the two teams play. Think of the buzz in two of the biggest cities in the state if the two teams are fighting each other for the Big East championship. Think of the exposure in the Northeast and all of that out-of-state tuition from potential students in Boston and New York who decide they want to go to college in Florida after watching UCF-USF battle it out in a Sunshine State sizzler. The shortsightedness of USF coaches and administrators in regard to UCF has always amazed me. They worry about trying to separate themselves from UCF instead of joining forces with the Knights and fostering the one integral element that college football was built upon: Rivalries — geographic and conference rivalries: Michigan-Ohio State. Florida-Georgia. Florida State-Miami. These are conference games that captivate the fan bases of the two schools just as UCF-USF would if both were in the same league. College football programs should play the games their fans and students want to see, not the games the coaches and administrators want to schedule. If USF is blocking UCF from a possible invitation to the Big East, that would be inexcusaBull. Link
  24. Here's a pic I took a couple years ago of the botanical gardens:
