  1. There are just so many extenuating circumstances that go into determining victory that poor coaches are just really fortune's fools.
  2. Pretty sure the tickets were purchased specifically for these people at the beginning of the season and yes some people find homes for their tickets but there are plenty of people that have asked every friend they know, have posted several times on the board and have yet to find anyone to take them for free which is not too surprising since tickets on the 50 yard club are going for $14.
  3. In all fairness to the process the hardest part is usually finding someone to take the tickets
  4. Is this a distracting color? I can't remember.
  5. Those stats are clearly biased as they point out CWT was tied for the worst by using silly things like empirical data and never once mentioned that he was a rebuilder unlike the slew of people they mentioned that in two seasons took teams from losing to double digit wins. Also Cristobal couldn’t have came in first on the list if not for CWT’s efforts.
  6. Not all that shocking when you consider our station in life. The difference between being P6 and P5 is that P6 teams lose the coaches they want and keep the coaches they don’t want where as P5 teams keep the coaches they want and lose the coaches they don’t want.
  7. Eight games into the third year both coaches were both 4-4 but CWT was 10-22 vs CCS’s 21-12.
  8. In all fairness to CCS at this point in CWT’s time here there would have been far more bets on his firing than there would have been on anyone buying out his contract to hire him.
  9. I would much rather be him and have a failing resume but huge paychecks than be the most successful coach with half the pay. I don’t blame him for making hay while it’s day but I also don’t think that translates directly to being a great coach. I guess we can continue with an incomplete but as more data aggregates and all of it falls below median it’s getting less and less likely that it will have some huge upswing that will create a vastly different normalization. He has had four head coaching stops and only the one he was at for a single season is above .500 and the other three stops look a lot alike and a lot like his blended average.
  10. Exactly. The next group defending them on Thebullspen would be the first one, firing Kelly and Frost would probably fall somewhere between so what who cares and good for most people on here as they currently and previously have had no connection to our program.
  11. I’m not mad at CWT at all. I hated the hire, I hated his first 2.5 years and then I came to be fine with him and would have been perfectly content with him staying here to see if he had actually built anything or if it was simply a flash in the pan. Going into the FSU job most CWT apologists seemed perfectly fine with the idea that to date he had an incomplete for his career and FSU would be what determined his actual grade, for some reason now that he has received a giant F it’s no longer reasonable to have had any expectations at a school with every dream resource in his dream area at what he claimed was his dream job. Building something implies some form of sustainability at its kind of hard to claim that if you bolt at the first sign progress in order to go to another place that is at its lowest level in program history (you get to be even worse than the last people) and you get to get back to one year of average or just above before you leave again.
  12. Was it by definition impossible for CWT to win more than half his games over a course of 10 years? Not being able to win a conference because you aren’t in a conference is not quite the same thing as being less than the median because it’s hard and you leave the first time you win to go to someone at the tail end of their down cycle.
  13. While you know I’m going to say it’s because he was was constantly moving up in class while playing with the players he recruited the class below or even the one below that as in those 13 years we moved from FCS to BCS at the very least you can’t count until 2003 as we were FCS and FBS independents before that and therefore couldn’t win a conference championship.
  14. Who else has contributed to as many other people winning bowl games?
  15. Maybe they just didn’t understand the nuances involved in why unlike every other losing record his was actually good. I’m sure if anyone took the time to explain that these were rebuilding losing records everything would have been just fine.
  16. Giving money to basketball is like giving money to people that want to give puppies to children where as giving money to football is like giving money to people that want to have children euthanize puppies. Why would anyone not want to be in the side of spreading joy instead of spreading eternal sadness?
  17. Not if you are the one getting hit with the poop
  18. Just shut football down already and give Gregory all of the money.
  19. QFT. Everything you do and say is stupid when you are losing and everything you do and say is genius and charming when you are winning. Following many losses the only thing you can say that will make fans happy is you are stepping down and returning all the money you have earned, which would seem absurdly unfair in many instances but people would be more sympathetic to it if anyone ever pointed out that they maybe being unfairly credited with successes.
  20. I mean if you are going to pick something to be myopic about having a winning record seems like a fairly good one for a head coach. Just being .500 as a head coach isn’t particularly great so it’s not like it’s setting the bar extremely high. Not really sure anyone can consider coaching Oregon to a 7-5 record for one season a rebuild and I think a fairly good argument can be made that he came in at the lowest cycles of USF and Western Kentucky and then simply followed their up-cycles to a more normalized position that he then left immediately. Lets say I go into a company that isn’t making any profit and I then cut the majority of the staff and start dumping the inventory thru large lot sales that the smaller crew can handle. As they continue to make their way thru the inventory I sell of the unused non inventory assets and let more people go. As the cycle continues I make a large profit and fixed the only problem it was facing but did I rebuild the company or simply liquidate and sell of the entirety of the assets? For most people on here just getting it back to a point once and then running off should mean it’s fixed and should be sustained but everyone ought to know that I actually didn’t rebuild anything.
  21. Touche, I assumed it was understood that the one stipulation was it required being involved in the subject being discussed. My statement was moderately equivocal and just shy of unequivocal. Kind of like how CWT has found himself just shy of of mediocre but only if you want to use silly things empirical evidence instead of important things like feelings.
  22. Professional baseball?? Isn’t .500 a pretty reasonable number there? In college football you get one complete freebie (well free to every coach we have had accept CWT) every season plus a handful of cupcakes to go with the people you should be competing with and then maybe a reach or two game being below .500 in College football 10 years in but still being a good coach surely must have some other examples besides CWT ( or will we have to go with a cricket example to find a similarly great trajectory?).
  23. I never once have moved the posts. I unequivocally state that in order to be a good coach you have to have a winning record a decade into your career. Let’s pretend CWT is the greatest rebuilder in the entire world and that’s why he has a losing record. Who is the next best 10 year coach with a losing record? It’s an absurd excuse that’s only been created because there is no reasonable defense of someone with a losing record actually being a winner because of blah blah blah excuses.
