  1. didnt usf have their best season? 4th is terrible when you have one of largest schools in country in the middle of the best talent in the country Oh, and the fact the conference improved as a whole with two teams finishing in the top 10, one which we beat, and a third in the top 25. The fact we finished the season ranked 29th in the nation, the fact last year we were 4th with a 6-6 record and this year finished 4th with a 9-4 record should indicate to anyone that has a clue we've turned the corner. As for Lakelandkid's assertion about bringing in a Steve Slaton, Michael Bush type well some of that is relative. Slaton was a three star recruit that had his schollie yanked from him by Maryland- dumb move- so it isn't like Slaton was a five star stud but more WVU found a diamond in the weeds. I think we've done that quite a bit. As for Michael Bush type, well I think Ford fits that bill. So get a clue steve and stop with your ignorant posts.
  2. 3rd or 4th rounder?  No way!  He would be lucky to go at all.... I love my bulls but he has to put in much more work to get to a 3rd or 4th round... Hell if A Hall was not drafted, how can Amarri think he would be? Anyone else get the feeling that any underclassmen draft request that isnt a 1st or 2nd rounder is just given a generic "3rd or 4th round" prediction, no matter what their talent level is? Amarri Jackson will never play in the NFL. Mark it down. Yeah, you're the authority all right. Notice all the no name big receivers in the NFL tearing it up right now? Guys like Marquese Colston at New Orleans that played at Hofstra- 6-5 230lbs, Earnest Wilford, Matt Jones...you're 6-5 and can run you'll find a spot in the NFL.
  3. 3rd or 4th rounder?  No way!  He would be lucky to go at all.... I love my bulls but he has to put in much more work to get to a 3rd or 4th round... Hell if A Hall was not drafted, how can Amarri think he would be? Very simple, because 6-5 receivers with good hands a 4.5 speed don't grow on trees. Whereas 5-9 RB's that weigh around 210lbs and run about a 4.5 too, do grow on trees.
  4. yeah at the all-star game, against some big defensive players he had something like 6 carries for 46 yards, 1 catch for 15 and a TD.
  5. We had over 5,000, and your point? I think it's not inconceivable we could bring 5,000 and FAU will be gearing up for this home game. If they can get 15k committed for our game it would make sense. Why do you have a problem with this? Why do you think it's not possible when FAU has done it before for other BCS opponents?
  6. They've moved for other 1-A BCS opponents so it's not unthinkable. Particularly if they push hard for attendance at that game.
  7. If this indeed true then UF's NC will officially not hurt USF's recruiting because UF will have officially filled their alotment of scholarships. This would give them 23-24, and holding a couple of open slots for two five star receivers and 1-2 big time FL kids that USF is not involved with.
  8. Sadly the world of High School prima donna athletes is not exclusive to Aaron Holmes or USF players. Could give you some real doozies, more so then this...sad but true. Herm, we get that you want a new coach.  The fact is Aaron Holmes is a great prep player, he didn't do anything illegal or any ademic issues but didn't feel comfortable with the FSU set-up.  Does it matter how, just that we got him.  He will be a real talent for this coach or the next.
  9. He may be a good player, but I prefer having standards in my football program. Your football program? When did you purchase it?
  10. exbull, I think you've got to realize what internet board you're dealing with here. Carlton Hill does a few stupid things and all of a sudden he's labeled stupid forever? Who knows if the kid can play safety, he's not dumb, naive and immature definitely. Physically he's gifted and that can't be overlooked. He was smart enough to play QB, which means he should be able to get playing safety if he puts his mind to it. The football part of Carlton has never been a problem it's always been the other stuff he's needed to get in check. I understand your question on Nate but this kid is a real physical talent and my guess is the staff just wanted to get him acclimated to playing because they've got bigger plans for him next year like rotating in playing safety.
  11. Yeah, but with a playoff you're automatically assuming they would have made it to a championship game. That would mean they would have had to beat 4 other top 10 teams (something UF has done) to win, do it in consecutive weeks without a month to prepare, and do it more than likely on the road at the opponents home field because a playoff system could not be played on nuetral turf and the bowls have already said before to the Universities that if a bowl system is played count them out. We do know what would happen and the two best teams played tonight, unfortunately the better one was UF. So, you can assume away. Hawaii's ranking is about as impressive as BSU's schedule...yeah if USF could have 8 home games where opponents have to travel 7-8 hours by air to play you I think we would have won 10 games too, particularly with their schedule.
  12. Yeah if they played one ranked team during the regular season maybe they would have an argument. I hate it to death but you can't argue UF's 13-1 record beating 5 ranked teams- ARK, LSU, UGA, OSU, UT- playing 6 (Auburn), and playing against 11 bowl teams- USM, ARK, LSU, UGA, USC, OSU, UT, Auburn, FSU, UK, and Bama. That's far and away better then BSU playing four bowl teams one ranked team OK, and barely beating three of them.
  13. I understand, but where ever he's at test wise I can promise you he's working hard to get himself eligible with special tutoring. Let's not label the kid, he's a good one as is his family and will be a welcomed addition to USF if and when he makes it on campus.
  14. NO, not according to Mike.  His mom received the letter already (so he says). From my understanding players can ask for a status by the NCAA Clearinghouse personally, i.e. they can look at what Mike Ford has, and then give them a thumbs up, like he should be good to go based on the NCAA minimum standards, etc. HOWEVER, a player cannot get individual NCAA Clearinghouse approval until they go to a particular University and that University must send to the NCAA the transcripts, and test scores outlining their admissions requirements. The NCAA Clearinghouse then gives the approval to the school, and that is the school that the NCAA records as that players school of record. Remember NCAA keeps tabs on all scholarship athletes to make sure guys aren't hoping around schools without using the proper protocol. In this case USF must submit his transcripts and test scores to the NCAA. If his mother did indeed get a thumbs up, greenlight from the Clearinghouse, one can only hope, then that means this shouldn't be a major issue. Although, the NCAA can flag things if there is a discrepancy or irregularity for questioning, i.e. a guy's test score jumps 200 pts from one month to the next. This is a perfunctory process that every school goes through for all their scholarship athletes. The only issue or question is whether or not Mike Ford is eligible. One thing is for certain that USF is filing the paperwork, and usually when a school is filing the paperwork they've reviewed the transcripts and test scores and believe the player is eligible and will get accepted by the NCAA. Players can roll the dice if they believe with full certitude they're eligible but maybe the NCAA is backlogged, enroll and wait to participate with the team until the NCAA gives you clearance. However if the NCAA for some weird reason does not give you clearance in this circumstance they would deem you ineligible and not eligible for a grant-in-aid. They would require you pay for that semester and either withdraw from school and re-enroll after meeting eligibility requirements- with your clock ticking- or withdraw and go JC and graduate from there before ascertaining re-enrolling at a four year institution. With that being said, I am betting that 99% of the time a University submits the paperwork, and documentation to the NCAA for clearance that it gets approved. Schools just don't send that stuff out and bother the NCAA for their health.
  15. Wow exbull, stereotyping a bit. I understand the exact rigors of FS, however I don't think anyone of us know for a fact whether Hill or can will play FS, he has the size and ability to play either safety position so it will all come down to learning. In Burnham's system both safeties work and must play field general, and make calls. Johnny Jones never played FS, neither did Roy Manns (much), and I don't remember Mize playing it much either. Last year FS was a rotation with Verpaele, and Williams, and I think Williams is a bit faster than 4.8, he at least plays faster. With that being said that's what learning is about, Verpaele, and Williams are young but made lots of mistakes. What are you trying to say about Nate Allen? He was a true freshman, and as you say safety is a tough position to learn under Leavitt and Burnham's system. Nate Allen is a very bright young man, and physically he could be the biggest of the bunch. Stand next to Louis Gachette, Williams, and Nate Allen and you get a feeling of the make-up change of USF, remember back when we had little guys manning those positions like Jay Mize, and Morgan--loved those guys but they would be looking up to the current crop of safeties.
  16. This is such a loaded question and 'weak' relative to what is my next question? I think the position in 2007 that needs to step up more is running back, punter, and kicker. If those three make a resurgence this team has a chance to contend for a Big East title. If it's Ben Williams, no true punter, and inconsistent kicking then we could be SOL. The positive is I believe all three positions are manned with guys on campus that are young but can get the job done and improve the position they just need to mature. If 'weak' is relative to our conference brethren and it's based on talent then you could say positions like RB, OL, DT, and Safety could always stand for more of a talent upgrade if the talent was available. Overall though I think there is good OL on campus and enough talent to find a consistent RB, punter, and kicker.
  17. when you say those two players are you saying it would be nice to get a 'difference making' RB? Let us hope Mike Ford is indeed eligible because if so then your wish maybe granted. Mike Ford is a player in those guys caliber. A different runner then those two, but still in their caliber.
  18. Yeah but corner is more than just speed, it's hip swivel, and change of direction. That's why you find smaller guys often more adept at the position. Make him a FS and it will be tough to stop the defense like UF this year. This year UF's defense was so tough because of one guy, Reggie Nelson. One of the best pure FS's I've seen in a while. The guy just never let anything get behind UF, he cleaned up all the messes, and hit like a LB.
  19. chitown, appreciate it if you didn't make such an obnoxious bolding of Calvin's academics. Calvin is a good kid and the truth be told those are not completely accurate. He's working on getting his test score- which is all that's needed since he already has the core GPA and overall GPA necessary to get in. Also gentlemen, be careful what you post because the family has been reading. Everyone including his family believes he will make it. He's been working after school to get the necessary test score and what's needed is not as big a jump as what's been alluded to or recorded on these websites. Besides, Calvin Jr. is closer to 6-1 then the 5-10/5-11 these recruiting websites have him listed at, and he is actually 220lbs. So now you're going to take those websites as gospel when dealing with his test score? Trust me when I saw USF grabbed a coup here, and we beat a ton of legit BCS schools. Hope Miami stays out, but overall some feel Calvin might have been one of the most under-appreciated recruits in FL...
  20. Exactly...the scout guys said he's one because no one has evaluated him. He was a four star coming out of HS and has done nothing to lessen that impression of him. He's said personally he wants to play safety, but he's such a tremendous athlete that he could play a number of positions and have a profound impact. Hard to find guys that are 6-3 215lbs that run a 4.4.
  21. What's an immediate impact kid? Is that like a RS-Fr DE that led the Big East in TFL? Is that like a RS-Fr DE that led the BE in sacks for freshmen and forced fumbles (different from the first guy)? Is that like a RS-FR QB that led the conference in total yards? Is that like a soph receiver that was second on the team in receiving yards, and runs for a receiver? How about a true freshman DT that started for USF? Kinda sounds like we're already bringing in players that can make immediate impacts. Gotta feeling guys like Tyrone McKenzie, Mike Ford, and Carlton Hill could continue the trend.
  22. Thanks Greg, for all those haters of CRM, if he indeed is in his last year people will thank him down the road because of his long-term decisions. It sucks now, but if it's CRM next year or another coach the positive is last year he didn't saddle us with a bunch of chumps that were not BE worthy and his selectiveness left us room to sign Aaron Holmes. Next year having a nucleus of Holmes, Verdejo, Bozeman, Curry, Howard, Jones, Saaka, Gransberry, and Williams will at least give either CRM or a new coach something to work with including extra scholarships to try and add the quality, and depth needed.
  23. He's NFL caliber, uncle is Eric Rhett and his dad played college ball. Calvin is a big time player and would have been bigger with some better promo if his new HC coach knew the biz. USF got a real great one, and this one was all Leavitt. He's been on Calvin and his family personally for a month. Making Calvin his #1 LB recruit. The man's infectious attitude and desire swayed the Suttons. They're excited to be Bulls.
  24. So does this = $$$ ? it should in a round about way. Crist will always keep the Bay Area as his homefront and anything good for the area he'll make sure gets taken care of.
  25. all it means is they want him as a body in training camp. He may make the team, but all teams usually sign a few of their PS guys to future contracts. True but this is the time teams sign guys to insure they have them locked up for camp. Guys they want more time to evaluate and not allow them to be on the open market. This should send a message that Andre Hall impressed them enough to keep him around. Furthermore with less then stellar RB situation in Denver Andre could work his way in. He couldn't ask for anything better at this point and Denver is the perfect team since they're not real high on any of their current RB's right now.
