  1. Come on Dabull, Troy State BEAT Missouri- that was #23 Missouri. TSU is a good team, you can give them credit eventhough they're SunBelt. By the way USC had a ton of yards against TSU, their worst enemy is turnovers. Wait until USC gets Demetri Summers back, he's expected back this week. He will give a huge boost to their running game, and run to a bowl. DaBull, mark it down SC will be in a bowl game.
  2. I think many of us will find later in the year that the USC loss wasn't as bad as originally perceived. If you follow recruiting much, and their roster you'd realize that their team was absolutely stacked, and I mean stacked, guys like Troy Williamson (who victimized us on those three long TD's- was the #1 WR coming out of the South, SC beat Tennessee, and UGA for his services), Syvelle Newton was the #1 QB in QB in 2002, and they didn't even have Demetri Summers against us, but he was considered the #1 RB in the nation in 2002!! Look on defense and you'll realize Ricardo Hurley was the #3 LB in the entire nation coming out in 2001....basically their roster rings off like that. Their recruiting classes in 02, and 03 were amazing, and the success in 04 isn't surprising because of it. Furthermore, they lost to UGA by 4pts, eventhough they were beating them by 16 in the first half. Had their kicker not missed two FG's, and was inside UGA's 20, twice in the fourth quarter and came away with zero points. I look at their schedule and after Bama, they've got Mississippi, and Kentucky, then UT and ARK in Columbia, then at UF, and Clemson. I could see them being 6-1 when Tennessee comes to town. If they can beat UT, and maybe ARK they could be in contention for winning the SEC still.
  3. Fayson is a good kid, and a good player. Coach G knows what he's talking about, if he and Joe Sipps have anything to say about it Fayson will be at USF. First, as long as G runs the veer at Hills High, Fayson's options at QB at the 1-A level are going to be severely limited. Two, I've seen Fayson play numerous times, he's a phenomenal athlete, nice size, but there is no way in hell he's playing as a freshman, or beating out PJ. Fayson's got a lot of work to do. Relax, he's a junior, and Coach G's article in the Times was damage control. I'm sure he had conversations with the USF staff ;D , and things were set right. It's an honor to get a junior to commit, but remember he's still 16 year's old. Coach G's become a big Leavitt fan, and in the end wait until Ronnie McCollough, Ponton, and other HH guys get in his ear.
  4. There's no hypotheticals about it. IF, UL beat #3-4 Miami, in Miami, they'd be ranked in the top 15. That would be a statement win, but right now a win against USM would also send a huge message. ONE GAME AT A TIME FELLAS!
  5. Bain's a junior, obviously Peyton is a true freshman.
  6. Remember Doug, TCU did have some fabulous athletes, and three were pre-season all-conference selections, in the defensive backfield. Our QB could have all day to throw, but PJ still needed to find an open WR. Our WR's did a terrific job of getting open, and making the catch, then immediately turning and creating positive yardage. TCU's defense was poor against the pass, but it still doesn't take away the confidence PJ gained from making those throws, and the WR's from catching balls and some were plays that the DB had good coverage. I remember a catch by Green that was an amazing throw to Green, the DB was all over him, but the throw was perfect and it allowed Green to juke him and gain an extra 3-4 yards.
  7. Speaking of Booby, after seeing all this nifty running by Hall it must have really motivated Crossley. He made that sweet spin move in the backfield on like a 3rd and 3 play to pick-up a first down. I had to check the jersey's to make sure it wasn't Hall. Crossley spun away from the rusher, stiff armed another, and bulled his way for six yards on a 3rd and 3 that would have seen most RB's tackled behind the line. Booby doesn't want to get out done. It's great to have him because he's an absolute bull with the ball. Regardless what they list him at Booby is about 240lbs, and runs like it. He knocks defenses back when he hits to the hole, a nice change of pace to Hall. Finally, USF has a RB that's in an elite class. Hall is the type of RB you see go in the first round. He's a difference maker, he absolutely has it all, and I mean it all. The instincts are uncanny, and amazing he reminds me a bit of Travis Henry, or no Frank Gore when he's healthy. P.S. a little secret from the practice field, but coaches think Andre Copeland could be better- eventually. He's got everything Hall has less the maturity.
  8. Offense- SJ Green (Soph), JB Garris (RS-FRESH), PJ (RS-SOPH), Chambers (TRUE FRESH). Defense- Tavarious Robinson (SOPH), St. Louis (SOPH), Stephen Nicholas (SOPH), Mike Jenkins (RS-FRESH), Danny Verpaele (TRUE FRESHMAN), Trae Williams (RS- FRESH), Ronnie McCollough (RS-FRESH). We need a few more to step up and live to potential, but there's a lot of talent on the field.
  9. As has always been the case, many people need to understand that if you're a fan of Jim Leavitt then you'll always come to expect an extra penalty or two. He plays an aggressive style, and he's an in-your-face motivation style coach. We'll always see a few extra penalties. The better idea is to differentiate. First some of the penalties Sat. Night were bad calls, atrocious. Also, people need to differentiate what calls we need to eliminate. I for one am fine with a face mask, or occasional roughing the passer penalty (that was a bad call against Kobel). I don't find excuses for the illegal substitution, and too many men on the field- USF was flagged three times for these penalties- one giving TCU a first down on a 4th and 4 where TCU was preparing to punt, and it was on a TD drive. Also, illegal procedure often bugs me. The positive is we might have had our big boob game of the year where we overload on penalties. Many of the penalties were technique, and player errors. That can be coached out.
  10. Furthermore, if you told me we were going to split the USC and TCU games I would have preferred to have TCU as the victory because it was a conference game, and albeit an SEC win would have been nice, it would have been for not if we don't achieve a bowl game this year.
  11. Of the entire USF history I only find 3 players that at the present state would come on this team and still make a difference- JR Reed, Kawika Mitchell, and Marquel Blackwell. More like those three could come in and unseat the players that are at their present positions. No one else could lay that claim, Walls might push Battle, and I could see Marcus Jones pushing St. Louis. Oh, and Bernard Brown before he hurt his hip. Huey Whitaker was a big slow WR, that ran bad patterns, had average speed, never blocked despite his big size, and would drop the easy passes. Why in the same hell do you think the Bucs dropped him after a few days. At first glance a 6-4 225lbs WR sounds great- then they got him on the field! This team is loaded with athleticism, and talent. It needs the gate-keeper- QB to unlock some of the potential. It's ridiculous Harvey's debating such nonsense.
  12. Maybe, he was definitely more polished then anyone coming out this year at QB in FL. HOWEVER, considering he must sit a year, Schaeffer might find a challenge in 2006 of beating out a senior in PJ, plus amazing talents in Carlton Hill, Matt Grothe and the new incoming freshman QB 2006 commit Jared Fayson. Granted Schaeffer was a more polished, and gifted QB coming out of HS, but Carlton Hill is an elite athlete, best of the best (you just can't believe who we beat out for this kid), Matt Grothe's accomplishments are amazing not nearly as gifted athletically as either Schaeffer, or Hill, but Matt has those gritty intangibles that you look at him and say "he's a winner, he'll go the extra 2 miles to get the job done." It definitely isn't a sure thing, today I'd say if Schaeffer wasn't forced to sit then coming in August 2005 he'd be heads and tails ahead of Grothe and Hill, but give those two exceptional athletes time to develop, and it wouldn't surprise me to see one of them beating out Schaeffer. By the way, I don't think Brent transfers. Not after his freshman year, he still thinks he's better and will eventually beat out Ainge.
  13. Steve, Banks showed his deep rifle all to often last year. His deep ball was never in question it was the short out-routes that killed him, and his inability to stay poised in the pocket. I think he could still be a starter if our offense changes, and allows for more balance and opportunity. My money is on PJ. He has a nice arm, good accuracy but it was his poise in the pocket and quickness in the open field that surprised me and pleased me. Running a more ball controlled offense PJ should be more effective, especially when he gets opportunities to run the ball as well.
