  2. No, not difficult - just not advantageous. If every school out there not named Michigan, Alabama or Notre Dame use the 'tix distributed' metric, we're all on the same, etched in pencil, page. Imagine the humiliation that any number of schools would have to suffer it was trip-the-turnstile counting that mattered. But, our good friends at the NCAA do have a minimum ticketing requirement for FBS eligibility: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/AMA/Division I Forms/2010-11 FBS Forms/Football Bowl Subqa 12 8 10.pdf. This is from several years ago, but engaging, nonetheless. https://www.mwcboard.com/index.php?/topic/78247-announced-attendance-vs-tickets-scanned/ I just think this stuff is interesting. Not that it matters if we're all doing the same thing, just saying that desperate times call for distributed tickets!
  3. Which is why we need to spend as much time as possible on the T-shirt Cannon range, working on our accuracy and increasing our rate of fire. Practice. This is my t-shirt, there are many like it, but this one is mine...
  4. Sorta related...talking to a guy at the gym today, and he said that about five years ago they were offered the opportunity to switch to the east side from the west side. I recall a handful of couples who used to sit near us also were "persuaded" to move to the west side. Anyone have any background on that? Just curious.
  5. IIRC, the fellas at Westpoint were not really happy with their tenure in CUSA. One reason being, relentlessly losing to that caliber of team. Note that Army does play some marquee games, but they also schedule - games they can win. The next generation of four-star generals doesn't want to be the Washington Generals of college football. You might BE them; you just don't want to be them. That's the odd thing about the service academies. They're not loved because of their athletic prowess, but because of what they represent (marketing something more than a t-shirt). So, we don't really rain down hard on them when they underperform - relative to the rest of FBSdom. It's not unexpected. Navy plays Notre Dame every year, and that tally is 82-13. Think they should cancel the series? Navy is about the only rival Army has, and Army is behind in the series 54 to 62. They are unique entities that happen to step into the spotlight once per year. So, although they may be a part of the AAC in the future, what they bring to the table is measured in something other than football wins.
  6. Hmmm...we might be related. I have a number of alumni friends from the U of SF who were unceremoniously booted from their 'dream school' and continued their education, now bridled and saddled, at HCC and subsequently Harvard on the Hillsborough. Apparently, this is not an uncommon affliction!
  7. Pleased with the outcome, but I recall thinking - preseason - that this game could go south if FAMU comes in smelling blood and USF does what USF has done as of late. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the broadcast boyz for pointing out, MULTIPLE TIMES, that FAMU had won their last ten games while USF had managed to lose their last eleven. So, is this a watershed moment for both teams? No. Of course not. But I think it's going to be some time before we are back to the days of hammering our early season OOC opponents with relative ease. If I were to apply any sort of grade, I'd use the phrase "as expected"...no stars.
  8. and not a Bull either. ****! Dammit! Did I just think that or did I say it? I hate when that happens.
  9. Absolutely 100% - just being honest here - at that point in time, the only difference between HCC & USF was the spelling (and, obviously the cost per credit hour). U of SF today is one-hundred-eighty degrees different than way back when. So much progress, so much nicer, can't even compare.
  10. I would just accept that Army Navy is a set aside. The "conference rival" line of thinking is neither here nor there. Army Navy is a rivalry that supersedes whatever conference affiliation may exist. Not seeing much of a 'hurdle' to be gotten over. If anything, Army - Navy, associated with the AAC, is a giant bonus.
  11. Yep. AA from HCC then two years at USF. Of course, this was back in the days when the bookstore was two trailers joined together out in a dirt field. But the point is, we have to have the swanky coffee shop and the rock-climbing wall, and numerous pools, and every other sort of amenity you can imagine as part of our marketing program. We have to be able to pitch U of SF as the cool, in-place to be - because not every kid applying is concerned about the Linear Systems or Logic Design classes. Gotta appeal. Gotta advertise. Always Be Closing! Don't want to miss out on the revenue - regardless of source. Neighbor across the street. Daughter spent one year in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and is now back in Tampa, attending HCC - intent on the AA and subsequently, acceptance to U of SF. Dad is elated. Nothing nicer than in-state tuition at HCC compared to out-of-state tuition at Alabama. Now, being honest, on the funometer, HCC isn't really moving the needle. But it's the pegging of the funometer in 'Bama that initiated the transfer. English 101 is English 101 - on Fowler Avenue or Dale Mabry. Only the $ is different.
  12. Yep. Just because Army & Navy are resident in the same conference does not mean that their game - which, just being honest - is the most relevant game (potentially as of this post, assuming Army joins, etc.) attached to the AAC, needs to be modified. The laws of physics that govern the big Charlotte at North Texas game do not apply to the rich history of Army Navy. The rivalry between Army and Navy is so much more than some arbitrary conference membership.
  13. I would imagine that's standard operating procedure.
  14. Depends. Friday and Saturday there are more. Generally, between eleven and three a.m. at the Lobby Bar or Cleopatra's Barge.
  15. Hmmm...odd that this would be 'terrible' for USF. If it is your opinion that USF will eventually, someday - not any day soon - wind up in the ACC, how does a PAC, reconstituted via the MWC & perhaps Tulane & UTSA/RICE bode poorly for U of SF? Not seeing the connection. The only way it could possibly be bad for U of SF is if you're clamoring for the next available P(x) slot, regardless of conference. Is that the case, or do we not want to bide our time until the ACC invite...
  16. I watched it, but it was not a scathing critique of the program. Very vanilla and set up for PG audiences.
  17. Yeah, you don't want to hang everything on a week-one game, but you can get a good feel for how things might shake out. I'm thinking that FSU might - as the really smart kids are saying - find themselves atop the ACC and in the playoff. After watching Duke & Clemson last night, that could well be the case. I think the line was pretty much flip-a-coin as LSU was @ -2.
  18. The correct answer is NO. Why not? a) I access ESPN+ via the ESPN app installed on the SmartTV (Android) b) SlingTV is an app on the TV which streams content from multitudes of networks, like ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN II, etc. Those can all be DVR'd, since the DVR capability is tied to SlingTV. The DVR capability is not tied any other app, even though the content provider is still ESPN.
  19. True, but you don't want to rely on one game for your ratings boost. You want people watching USF games for the sake of USF, not who is USF playing against. Think in terms of huge ratings for USF-UCF and the abysmal ratings for USF-North Texas. Then the question becomes, although USF is in a large media market, are they really drawing eyeballs with some regularity? We've touched on this when talking Rutgers and NYC...a hard case to make, but outside of Rutgers - what is there for NYC? Is it as close as you're ever going to get? Would that apply to U of SF?
  20. You can do that right here, right now. Just click your heels together three times and flip the channel...or plan a series of window displays on home safety, or help start a library, or instead of watching football, get the gang together to watch the PBS special on knitting...it's all within your power today!
