  1. That’s a pretty good idea (not the skipping meds part if you need them)! I wonder if enough people did that en masse if Athletics would notice jumps like that…
  2. That’s a good point. So location doesn’t really matter anymore, basically. We’re all bought in to all these streaming options anyway.
  3. They really don’t at this point. Which makes this Aresco turd even worse. The cable companies are all offering streaming now; trying to regain some market share. But broadcasting is still contracted with the same media players whose focus is on the cash cow programs; diminishing the appeal of underperforming teams in major markets. TV deals now value fan bases. There are quite a bit of rurally located teams with thriving fan bases who will gladly jump through hoops to watch their team. Teams like USF, Rice, and the like, do not have that. Aresco’s focus on getting irrelevant schools in large media markets instead of passionate viewer bases has reduced (and will continue to) the league’s value when it comes to the next media deal.
  4. Doesn’t mean a thing if those programs aren’t winning (MJ would like us to have a chat with the “man in the mirror”). ESPN is funneling everyone to buy MickyMouse+ or whatever.
  5. Well, when reviewing the energy/mindset of our previous coach, I can see that as an indicator about the “culture” () we lost/were developing under him.
  6. Biggest takeaway is that he acknowledges how many times coaching failed the team last week. Disappointing that the press had to claw that out of him, but he eventually got to admitting it (particularly the awful 3rd/4th and 1 playcalls). I was hoping for more “rah-rah”/something for the fanbase, though I get why the energy is what it is.
  7. No, I just don’t AGREE with YOUR point. As you don’t agree with mine. Which is fine.
  8. A fact of business is that you’re measured against your competition. They became legitimate competitors and won; we didn’t. Even with our best team in recent memory. I can’t get but hurt (long-term) over that. I can only support and hope that we do beat them. The best measuring stick of that would be to continue to compete with them. I hate where we are at the moment but I don’t take issue with the rivalry as sorely as many do. As you all can see, this topic elicits the emotion that feeds legitimate rivalries. Which I believe proves the merit in my opinion.
  9. It’s still OUR rivalry. And it’s organic “hate” between the bases. Some may not like it, but it’s still the reality.
  10. Exactly. For better or worse (as much as we hate it), it’s near a match made in heaven/hell. I’m confused by the pushback against acknowledging that. I’ll caution the old saying: “You never know what you have until it’s gone”.
  11. Gonna have to agree here. I am a “supporter”(?) of the rivalry, but this is getting sadder and sadder with each “initiative”. Pass.
  12. Just as any rivalry, a set of circumstances and conflicting personalities, have added to the lore of said “rivalry” and in turn, adds value to competition in sport. This “rivalry” is no different than any other. There’s real “beef” in between fanbases at times. There’s even political backstabbing involved! It’s makes sense to continue to compete in sports against the school in Oviedo. Better than not, in my opinion.
  13. I’m actually rooting for them. I’m kinda a Taggart fan (don’t tell anyone) and from South Florida. Doesn’t mean that I want a “rivalry” just for the hell of it. At least there’s meaning in this thing of ours with the school in Oviedo. And that’s my main point: There’s actual meaning in this rivalry. It’s worth it; despite the pain.
  14. Can it not be said that a culture was developing under CCS that produced then losing? Multiple players (most notably that one o-line guy) came out speaking about the things Strong’s crew was doing that turned away from what was built under Taggart, and I’m not only talking about schemes here. There’s a word game being played that isn’t acknowledging that words still have meaning (no matter how much my generation keeps trying to create new definitions for words ).
  15. Still worth it to project potential success ahead. If there was more transparency on what else was being projected on its back (potential success begetting funding; then begetting buildings) I think we, the passionate, could sit with this current condition better..or not.
  16. I may be wrong, but wasn’t this schedule put together when we were transitioning from the QF era? I recall Kelly going on a run of contracting games when we were still “winning” under Strong…
  17. Sam has been lights out lately as an ambassador for our alma mater. Loving how vocal he has been over the last year. More former players are doing that and it’s showing improvement in Athletics (incrementally, of course). A lot of “come to Jesus” vibes lately.
  18. I hope so. Gonna need a solid start from everyone though. THAT is the next step in getting that “complete” game we’re hoping for.
  19. Exactly. Spencer doesn’t have much to work with yet. Our “best” tacklers are afraid to wrap up. You can coach as much as you can, but you can’t get on the field and strap up for the players. He’s been making solid adjustments between UF and now. We just aren’t talented/gritty with our current (soft) personnel.
  20. I’m hoping that this isn’t flying over many people’s heads: This staff has been making consistent adjustments after bad 1st quarters the last few games. Yes, we struggle with getting started early but Weis Jr. and Spencer have been much better this season with the adjustments…almost as if they have more options with more of the playbook installed and better personnel than they did in year one…who would’ve thunk-it.
  21. ESPN is no friend to USF. I learned long ago that I can’t rely on positive coverage of our team if I’m hoping to get it from the mouse. It was weird how the xCCS era actually had the talking heads on our side a little early on. Of course, that changed pretty quickly though over time…
