The job sounds more like a business manager rather than a coaching position...if this is true why would Reggie Kohn want the job?

Because it may very well be the next step to a coaching career in College.  To be a business manager for a college or even an NBA basketball team you basically need to know how to coach, plays, scenarios, etc.

It's definitely a position I'd be interested in," said Kohn, 26, who has led Lake Howell to the state Final Four in each of his three seasons. "The job hasn't even been posted yet, but when it is, I'd love the chance to sit down and talk with Coach."

Thompson wasn't a basketball coach, he lettered in track and cross country.

"Thompson recently completed his third year with the program, having arrived with McCullum prior to the start of the 2003-04 campaign.  His responsibilities included team travel, film exchange, equipment inventory, supervision of the team’s managerial staff and academic monitoring.  A native of Rienzi, Miss., Thompson previously worked with the men’s basketball program at his alma mater, Ole Miss, where he lettered in both cross country and track."

Thompson definitely played basketball.  He lead his Indiana Basketball High School team to a state championship and I am pretty sure he worked in college basketball as a student at Ole Miss.  His intention was to get into coaching and by getting involved with the director of operations position it may very well lead to assistant coaching position.
