But... Coaches try to trick opponents. I'll take the QB-play and offensive action over run-stop issues. I bet we are hiding our plans for next week. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

Just looking at who we have on staff, man, that's a lot of coaching experience that we've never had under other head coaches. Let's see how it all translates to wins for us. BTW, Stephen Nicholas is no longer on the coaching staff.

I've been catching up on the roster and thanks to BullyPulpit and his position breakdowns, this is how I imagine the team will differ from last year. Philosophically, this is going to be a pocket-passing QB year. I doubt we will see Barnett run for yards like Flowers, unless it's a dire situation and he's making up his own plays. Running, this is yards on the ground with your traditional plays that we've seen. And the coaches will rotate RBs to keep them fresh. Q: How good is our OL? Seems like we have a better line than last year at this point in the season with the starters set. So, it's going to be interesting with no Flowers to bail us out for yards and first downs. Where is the difference going to come from? I think we'll have more accuracy on the shorter passes -and maybe even try a slant pass or two this season! We have really good receivers this year, so that should help. But with no Flower's elusiveness and legs, that's a big transition. The thing is, we can always put in our mobile QBs and go for that QB-with legs play. Look, at 6-5 Barnett is not going to dodge anybody on the run! Defensively, I really like our maturity at covering people in the secondary. This helps the front guys; it gives them more time. So, this is a "win" for us. I have no idea about the middle and our ability to stop the run. We might have to gamble a bit to do that -bring up people. So, I hope we take more risks and force teams into throwing the ball. When they do that, I think that favors our guys. Running it up our throat, that might be our weakness (I'm guessing here). Our weaknesses? I'm guessing field goals and stopping the run. Our strengths? Secondary, receivers, and accuracy when Barnett is in (but he will be a target). Hmmm... Cincy's QB comes to mind all of a sudden. I hope it doesn't turn out that way! The OL is going to be the make-it or break-it of this year. You take Flowers out and all of that pressure now falls on the OL. We never played this style of football because we've never had OL talent to do it. Fingers crossed!

So, how do you think he will do at FSU? FSU fans will love him at the end of the season or will they think it was a huge mistake to bring him in from Oregon? Me, I think he had a lot of help getting the results he did here and at Oregon. It all depends on how he treated those people along the way and if he's going to get the same kind of help and quality of help at FSU. Nobody is "me! me!" and gets anywhere in the world. All kidding aside, I would like to see him do well. I really don't know the man. But as a diehard Bull, I'd like to see him get laughed off the list of "good coaches." I don't think he deserves it -yet. C'mon, Jumbo Fischer's replacement... That's a tall order.

My faith in this season being a good season (not playing in freaking St. Pete for our bowl game) rests with the defensive coordinator. He's going to make this defensive unit better. We can never score enough points on offense when the D is soft like it has been for so long.

Ca$h had better save all that money. He will be somebody's assistant within the next five years.

You Bulls are all about who starts and all of that. Here are my concerns: (1) Will there be protection for a pocket QB? And what kind of passing plays are we running to get the yards? (2) And if the QB and WRs can't get 10 yards, how are we running on the ground in the same set of 3-down plays to get enough to move the chains? Running up the middle is not going to work when we play somebody good. They didn't want to use Flowers the right way (like Ca$h did). Now, they are putting in a pocket QB to run the offense. The other QBs we have are built on mobility and the old system. (3) If this game plan goes south, are we going to be happy with a bowl game in St. Pete at the end of the season? I trust nothing until I see what these coaches do. They didn't adapt to the players from last season (to the degree that I wanted!). Now, they are putting in their system. Well, let's see what happens...
