  1. Given the variables of the past 3 seasons and juxtaposing it with our monster recruiters (Taggart, Dugans), how do you think we're doing so far? Rivals #42 in the country, #1 in the AAC, having the #1 DE coming to visit next week for Junior Day... (long shot!) I know pens haven't inked yet, decommitment potential still up in the air, but wanted to see what we're all thinking. Of course as favorable as it may appear, transferring it to the field is the true testament of our success
  2. I understand a lot needs to be cleaned up -- penalties, O-line, personnel, athletes, style of play, etc But on the assumption that Quinton Flowers will stay committed, and the potential QB competition being wide open for 2014, could this be the difference maker if he's put in as a true freshman? Eveld gone, Floyd an afterthought, Bench and White stunk it up Any of you who have been following Flowers knows him quite well. Thoughts?
  3. It's not like we'd be bringing him on without Taggart's consent...it's been proven that he's only a good head coach because he had some talent to work with at USC...and they got worse every year. What he has shown is the ability to develop quality quarterbacking. Have you seen the USC offense? ........
  4. One of the things I admired about CJL was that he was quite vocal about being the Bobby Bowden or JoePa of USF. He had offers from Alabama and the alike during his tenure, but turned them down to stay with the team he built. Had Holtz or Taggart experienced a great amount of a success, greener pastures would call, and they'd leave us in the dust. We are a stepping stone to them. Even if Taggart turns things around in a few years, I can't expect him to stay put (although with Tampa ties, who knows)
  5. Had we played against FAU like we played against Michigan State, the outcome would've been way different. If we put up miserable offensive numbers against Mich State, granted their defense, we would've at least had a fighting chance against a 0-2 FAU. Perhaps it's a litany of problems, but, as the broadcast booth last night pointed out, it's been so long since this team had experienced a win. They don't understand what success looks and feels like. They are clawing for it, and coming up short every time. And when they do, they implode. And then it gets even worse -- they implode against FAWho and Dunkin Donuts HS flag football team. I'm pretty sure it's a mentality -- athletes don't think they're good. And the harder they try, the dumber they look. Then it all goes back to coaching. As mentioned previously on here, it goes back to installing a system that works with the personnel that they have. It's 1st and 10, what you gonna do coach, what you gonna do? Shaw up the middle. Lather, rinse, repeat for 2nd and 8, 3rd and 8, and kick the ball away.
  6. When Shaw didn't work the first time, it didn't work the next 40. Sure, it's a record night -- if he's the only offensive weapon you have. I'll agree about the O-line, 100%. Where's our receiving core?
  7. fans staying in their seats past halftime
  8. If it's UCF fan, maybe he interpreted 'defense' as 'offense' since he can't read
  9. Offense - C MSU had terrific defense, let's admit it. Top 10 last year in Pass/Rush/Total D. With our QB's the way they were, you'd expect that type of play. However, the handoff to Shaw didn't work the first time -- along with the 60th time. In addition, it felt like our plays developed embarrassingly slow Defense - B MARKED improvement from last week. Still a few areas and gaps to fill, especially with the running game. But juxtaposed with last week's performance, that's where they sit with me. Great tackles and (ugh, Skip Holtzism) EFFORT by the personnel. Hats off Special Teams - C 10 yard punt... but a ~50yard field goal. Kickoff returns... sigh... the rest writes itself. Overall, we were boatloads more competitive than we were last week. There's a spark... we're not down for the count just yet. I have some optimism for the rest of the season. Just my .02
  10. There were barely any positives mentioned in the show, which is what I was hoping. He knows there are issues and was there firsthand to witness the largest disaster in USF history. He wants to put the dumpster fire out and is going to do everything he can to earn our support and trust back. He said all of the right things. I like it... he's the right guy to right this ship... if all of that came from Holtz, I'd say boy cry wolf. I expect a different team on Saturday...
  11. "I understand why you left... I wouldn't want to see that either" QOTD
  12. Sounds like we're gonna see some new faces on the field....
  13. I'm wondering if players had actually stayed within the scheme would the outcome have been different? Scheme scheme scheme...
  14. http://betaplayer.radio.com/player/987-the-fan Expect to hear 'adversity' several times tonight... anyone calling in?
  15. No naming players, but I went back and watched (as hard as that was) a little bit of the game on the defensive side of the ball. It's just blatantly obvious -- missed assignments and coverages is one thing, that's football IQ and being in the right place at the right time. Missed tackles, you can teach that and remedy it quickly But man -- just watching some of those aforementioned happen, and witnessing some of the reactions from the players who tried to make those stops was absolutely stunning. I've never seen so much apathy after attempting to tackle, block, hit, or play any type of defense. ...Missing tackles and just standing there waiting for the teammate to come in and save the day ...Rushing the QB and quitting half way through ...Running after the ball carrier and because you're on the wrong side of the play, just stopping and letting someone else take over "I tried and I failed" Talent you can coach up. Leadership is everything. I've seen more done with less. No coach should let this kind of piss poor attempt to play football happen under their watch, regardless of who they play
  16. 1) Sadly, now opponents have film to study on him and will eventually contain him. He couldn't get things going after McNeese make adjustments... 2) Nobody is really the answer. As was said to me at the game "If Floyd is the starter, that speaks volumes about the ones behind him". We have 2 bench riders behind BJ, a transfer from PSU, and a true freshman. Don't really have your pick of the litter... But to address the silver lining, and I may get reamed for this, here's some optimism: We got beat by McNeese State I think that lights the fire, CWT makes adjustments, and the team Glory Road/Longest Yard/Remember the Titans/Rudy's together and turns it around completely. I mean, I could make the same case for App State vs Mich, and then winning the next 8 out of 9 gams, but Mich probably had a different talent level than us... I feel pretty good about this coming week -- we definitely won't play as poorly as we did this past weekend, although I could be wrong. Holtz surely ruined every ounce of drive this team might have had over the last few years. And if that's the case, we're still left with his talent. Sometimes stains are so deep in the carpet, you can't get them out
  17. It will be interesting to see if Taggart can get these guys to 'compete' if this is the case. I can imagine the atmosphere on the field was just as listless as it was in the stands Begs to answer the question.... would you rather have inexperienced true freshman who are highly motivated to get out there and make a difference, or moderately talented Jr/Sr scholarship athletes who stand there with their hands on their hips waiting to make a move... Auman said he expects to see some change in the lineup. That could be interesting come Saturday... sadly, not enough to make a difference I think...
  18. There were some (I don't want to use that word too heavily) flashes of brilliance by the personnel on the field yesterday, whether it was a true reading of our talent and athleticism or a mere fluke by catching McNeese off guard... But reported from VD5: "I don't take Doug Graber too seriously, but in the third quarter he said that Willie Taggart had told him that the talent level at USF was, well, not as good as he was hoping." I have a hard time believing our athletes can't go toe-to-toe with a team we were 3 TD favorites against. With that said, was it really just a piss poor performance as CWT said, or do we not have the guns to pull it off? If the latter, can CWT do more with less?
  19. TBO HighSchoolSports â€@TBO_PrepSports Wharton QB @Chase_Litton tweets that he just received an offer from @usffootball and @CoachTaggart #tbopreps Hits home for me, because I actually taught that kid music in 4th and 5th grade at Tampa Palms Elementary. IIRC, he wanted to pursue basketball at Butler. I made him fill out a bracket in '07, got them all wrong. Should've saved that, he may be on SportsCenter one day. Only other offer is from LSU
  20. Here's my witty sign that I'll bring "TAG! You're it!"
  21. 98.7 is airing it live. Don't know why BN9 isn't?
