  1. If we were to build an exact replica of the Yale Bowl, it would cost $17.4M in current day dollars (per Wikipedia).

The Marshall Center was built using the Capital Improvement Trust Fund plus a ton of borrowed money. The CITF would get us $15M-20M. If you can do that and then get another $10-15M for a luxury box section, we could build a modern version of the Yale Bowl relatively quickly.

You weren't an English, accounting or architecture major at USF were you?

    Not an economist either.

  2. Thinking about this here, before some of you go nuts and bash me, hear me out first.

I think UCF and USF together should team up here and pitch the Big 12, SEC, ACC. And do it as a packaged deal. In particularly the Big 12.

Now here is why I say this.

As of the numbers I can find. In 2010, national TV market rankings are as follows.

    Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater: national ranking #14 with 1,805,810 viewers

    Orlando/Daytona/Melbourne: national ranking #19 with 1,455,620 viewers

    Totaled together at 3,261,430.

That combined number would put them at #4 in national TV market rankings.

That is alot of possible viewers of the B12 to turn down.

I'm not going to bash you, but, couldn't the Big 12 get those TV markets by adding FSU?

On a deal that can "save" the league (the only thing I can think of as a 'deal' would be a larger share of revenue):

The league's seven private Catholic schools, which do not sponsor Football Bowl Subdivision teams, have been exploring in recent days the possibility of striking out on their own or dissolving the conference. The legal entanglements of that decision are so complicated, however, that Aresco has been trying to slow the train and work out a deal to keep the league together.

Quote about Tulane being at fault:

“We got an invitation, we thought it was a good one and we took it.†Munn said. “I can understand the frustration, but they should be angry at the founding members of the Big East who left. They were being carried by these big schools with big followings.â€

“I think the television negotiations are over,†one industry source said. “What are you going to negotiate?â€

Not much here except this quote from the Butler AD:

"I couldn't speculate on what may happen or anything. We just want to do the best thing for our university, our student-athletes, for Butler. Right now, it's the A-10. We're excited about being here and think we've got a good team."

    As good as gone? lol

    A few quotes:

According to the source, there is a lot of interpretation regarding exit fees, the waiting period, and on who gets the Big East name and Madison Square Garden for a conference basketball tournament.

The departing schools conducted a teleconference with Aresco on Thursday morning. They have scheduled a second conference call for Saturday, when they are expected to address these issues and possibly make an official declaration.

Initially, both the FBS and non-FBS schools believed, sources said, that the seven Catholic schools could dissolve the league by a two-thirds majority vote, which they have. However, a source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN on Thursday that the league may not be dissolved without at least two FBS and two non-FBS members each voting to do so.

Without voting to dissolve, the seven schools are expected to move together to form a new league. They would keep their automatic berth in the NCAA basketball tournament because NCAA rules state that as long as a group of seven universities has been in the same league for five years, it keeps its bid after a move together to a new conference.
