  1. I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet from other "lower" conferences. The Big East is losing teams and the MWC is adding teams.
  2. Any MWC team that gets to a BCS bowl gets to keep 50% of the revenue. So, technically, every team gets the same deal as BSU. I think the national TV money and home rights pushed the scales.
  3. Doesn't sound too bad at all. It would certainly change the narrative.
  4. If the MAC invites Cincy, UCONN, and USF... Should we accept?
  5. I don't think there is much he could do. He was negotiating new members and a TV deal at the same time... That is a lot of "if and "when" statements to TV partners and [future] members.
  6. That would be terrible. Why? It's a wild ass idea, but why do you think that it would be terrible? Are we '"above" anyone else that would be in that conference? As Databull said, from a TV perspective it has zero appeal. I would also add that the on field quality wouldn't be appealing either. It is certainly not "SEC lite" as someone said. I think there are much better schools out there to form a conference with or build the Big East with. U of Ohio, Tulsa to name 2. Not great names, but quality has been strong over the past couple of years. I'm not saying wild, unique ideas aren't needed, but putting USF in the class of FIU and FAU is a big disservice to us. I think the quality of our department is far superior to theirs.
  7. It is a PR nightmare if Boise/SDSU leaves, not necessarily an on-field loss. If our conference looked like this: 1.UConn 2.Temple 3.Cincy 4.USF 5.UCF (2013) 6.SMU (2013) 7.Houston (2013) 8.Memphis (2013) 9.Tulane (2014) 10.ECU (2014) 11.Ohio (2015-hypothetically) 12.Navy (2015) IMO, Boise would add to our tv deal, not detract. But, would it be earth-shatteringly different if they didn't come? I'm not an expert, but I don't think it would be. We have 2 TV markets in central Florida, 2 Texas schools that have some history behind them, 2 Ohio schools, and a 'national' team in Navy. With basketball we have UConn, Temple, Cincy, USF, Memphis, and Ohio which made the tournament last year. Research... I don't know where any of these schools rank when it pertains to research or if it is even worthwhile sharing research money like the Big 10. My guess is USF, Cincy, and Tulane do pretty well but for the others, no so much.
  8. Boise is going to be in a lesser conference no matter what... just like the rest of us. The money is going to follow them (and BYU) no matter what conference they pick. If they pick the Mountain West, lo and behold, a new tv deal with more money. Likewise for the Big East. What it comes down to is non-monetary considerations: home tv rights, blue uniforms on blue turf, all sports conference vs football only, AQ for 2013, etc.
  9. Let's get back at it: http://www.ctpost.co...ain-4141130.php Report: Boise State in talks to stay in Mountain West Updated 7:59 am, Wednesday, December 26, 2012 Boise State is in talks with the Mountain West Conference about the Broncos staying in the conference instead of leaving for the Big East in 2013, according to an ESPN report. The Mountain West announced on Friday it had restructured its current TV media rights deal with CBS. The restructured deal gives the Mountain West the right to sell packages of games to two other networks, which could mean millions more for current Mountain West programs. If Boise State does decide to return to the Mountain West, San Diego State -- also ticketed to join the Big East in 2013 -- could join the Broncos as the league's 12th member. The Mountain West intentionally stopped at 10 programs, leaving the door open for both the Broncos and Aztecs to return to the conference. The conference could be able to split into two divisions and host a conference championship game. The Big East, according to CBS Sports, has talked with Fresno State and UNLV about joining the conference for football only. The league is losing seven basketball-centric schools, but their exit won't become final until a gaggle of lawyers agree on the major talking points -- when the new conference can begin play, participating schools, the name of the league, sites for the conference tournament, terms of the television contract and so on. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, no exit fee is expected for the seven, which includes Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova, St. John's, Seton Hall, DePaul and Providence. Butler, Xavier, Creighton, Dayton, Virginia Commonwealth and Gonzaga have been mentioned as possible candidates to make it a 10- or 12-team basketball conference. 10. I would love to see a semi final playoff within conference. This year, theoretically, it would have been: 9-3 San Diego State vs. 10-2 Boise State 9-3 Rutgers vs 10-2 Louisville
  11. If I recall, the major issue with BYU was that they wanted their own TV deal and to not play sports on Sundays. I can't imagine that STILL not being an issue with them. Will the Big East or Big 12 be okay with that? We'll see.
  12. Interesting that BYU has $4 million/year from ESPN. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/big-east-eyes-unlv-fresno-st-byu-article-1.1224947
  13. Battle of the [future] big east: San Diego State v BYU on ESPN.... Loser goes to NBE.
  14. If they're going to put some money behind rebranding, then I say change it.
  15. Interview with Aresco http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/big-east-commissioner-mike-aresco-we-feel-we-have-a-very-good-league/2012/12/19/2fb80652-4a1e-11e2-820e-17eefac2f939_story.html
  16. Did I read that correct.... Mountain west currently receives between $8-$12 million per school?
