  1. Screw that....nothing better than liquid optimism for the holidays.
  2. You really think that there is no apathy regarding USF basketball? I think the 4000 to 5000 fans we used to get on a regular basis are still around, they just haven't gotten anything worth getting excited about in terms of the product on the floor or the amenities at the Sundome.
  3. It's better than nobody ******** at all b/c wholesale apathy has set into the fanbase. ******** and complaing is part of sports. Some people try the lemmings approach where the team can't do any wrong, while other hate everything. Most of us fall somewhere in the middle.
  4. Mark my words, if Johnson winds up in pinstripes it will be a disaster. Johnson is a man who used to grumble about the "tough" Seattle and Arizona media. Wait until the NY media grills him after a bad spring training start. Some players are born to play in New York (Reggie Jackson, Paulie O'Neil and David Cone) some are not (Kevin Rogers, Ed Whitson, jason Giambi). The Yankees should of gone after Hudson and/or Mulder.
  5. Well to be honest....I'm just pissed that the Yankees couldn't get either one of these guys and instead are settling for Pavano and Randy Johnson.
  6. ...b/c what else could explain the fire sale going on in Oakland. First they trade Hudson for a couple of no names to the ATL and now they give away Mark Mulder to the Cards for a couple of prospects. What the hell is going on over there? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1949157
  7. Duke Fires Offensive Coordinator Galbraith DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Duke fired offensive coordinator Marty Galbraith after one season, during which the Blue Devils ranked last in the Atlantic Coast Conference in points and total offense. "We've decided to go another direction offensively," Duke coach Ted Roof said in a statement. "Marty Galbraith is a good man and a good football coach, and we wish him well in his future endeavors." Duke (2-9, 1-7) averaged 16.6 points and 265.5 yards per game. Galbraith came to the Blue Devils after spending the 2003 season as tight ends coach for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals. Before that, he spent three seasons with North Carolina State, serving as offensive coordinator in 2001 and '02. © 2004 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. 8. Now this is what I am talking about.... SU's New AD's enthusiasm is infectious Scott Pitoniak Democrat and Chronicle columnist -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (December 18, 2004)  I like what new Syracuse University athletic director Daryl Gross had to say, and I like the way he said it. There was enthusiasm in his voice. It was palpable, contagious and in stark contrast to his brilliant but stoic predecessor. Jake Crouthamel preferred to do his work behind the scenes, and that was fine for his time. He was old school, and he worked tirelessly to get the Carrier Dome built and launch the Big East Conference. But while overseeing the greatest run in SU sports history, Jake struggled mightily with public relations, and, in recent years, that's become an even more crucial part of the job. Fortunately, in their search for a new AD, Chancellor Nancy Cantor and the university's board of trustees realized the importance of finding a replacement with more than just a sterling resume. The position called for someone with an infectious personality, someone who could reconnect the school to its increasingly apathetic fan base and disenchanted alumni. In Gross, they appear to have landed a man ready to meet those challenges. Although just 43, Gross brings an impressive track record, boundless energy and extremely high expectations to SU. As a senior associate athletic director at the University of Southern California, he was the point man for the hiring of Pete Carroll, who is on the verge of leading the Trojans to their second consecutive national football championship. He also recently lured the highly respected Rick Majerus out of retirement to coach the USC basketball program. During Gross' tenure as athletic director Mike Garrett's right-hand man, the Trojans won 15 national titles, 30 Pac-10 championships and produced 145 Olympians. The holder of a B.S. in psychology from Cal-Davis and graduate degrees in business administration and marketing from USC, Davis has excelled as a fund-raiser. He spearheaded drives to build several new athletic facilities on the SC campus, including the $70 million Galen Center, which will house Trojans' basketball and volleyball in the spring of 2006. Gross is quite familiar with SU's storied athletic tradition. As a child, the Beverly Hills, Calif., native listened to his father's stories about Syracuse's 1959 national championship football team. "Whenever I hear the name 'Syracuse University,' I think greatness," he said Friday. "It has a phenomenal history. When I arrived at Southern California 14 years ago, it was a program that once was one of the greatest of all time, but it had lost a bit of its luster. We have brought it back to where we have won 15 national championships. "This is what I want to build at Syracuse." He's fully aware that the SU basketball and lacrosse programs already are among the nation's elite. But the one-time New York Jets scout also knows that the Orange football program isn't what it used to be. Gross sees no reason why Syracuse can't compete for a national championship in football the way it once did under Ben Schwartzwalder and **** MacPherson. Although he wouldn't address current football coach Paul Pasqualoni's future, Gross has made his vision of excellence quite clear. And that has fueled speculation that Coach P may not be out of the woods yet despite recent votes of confidence from Crouthamel and Cantor. If the Orange were to lose to Georgia Tech in Tuesday's Champs Sports Bowl, there is a chance Gross might recommend a change. He is high on Norm Chow, the USC offensive coordinator who devised the passing attack that helped quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart win two of the past three Heisman trophies. "I look for coaches who are the best in the business," Gross said. "The four principles I use as a foundation for assessing talent are: win championships, graduate student-athletes, be compliance perfect, and be fiscally sound. We want coaches and staff to have the fire to get this done." I like the fact he has set the bar very high. There is no reason why the football program can't recapture its greatness without compromising its academic integrity. While Jake did much of his work in the shadows, Gross will be front-and-center, and that's just what SU athletics needs right now  a dynamic ambassador capable of getting people enthused again about a program with the potential to become much greater.
  9. Great ramble Brad..... ;D IMO, what the athletic department needs more than anything is an all encompassing vision set forth from those on top. That is, much like President Genshaft has carefully outlined USF's goals for the next 5 years we need the same thing for the Athletic department. I have posted this on the other board and has not seemed to get much traction, however am I the only one who is concerned that in nearly a year of being in office, AD Woolard has yet to articulate his goals and visions to his fan base? Leadership starts from the top, thus while I am not defending the athletic association they too need to inspired and most importantly have a direction. We need to hear about Woolard's plans for improving our facilities. We all used to make fun of the old football facilities cardboard models and moaned about those models becoming reality. However....you know what....I would love to see a couple of those things be presented by the University. It makes those projects jump out and more real. I want to see our plans for a new baseball & softball facility. I want to see Coach Gigi Fernandez's plans for a world class tennis facility. I want to see specific plans or at the very least talk about renovating the SunDome. I want to ……gasp…..even see a long-term projection about an on campus football stadium. I realize that these kinds of projects take a lot of time, planning and money....but why not include the fan base in the process. To date most of everything that is done at USF is leaked through the media. Sharing information like this should not be such a highly guarded secret. People are more willing to get involved if they think they are working toward a greater goal. BTW, with all of this being said ...it's not all doom and gloom. I am perfectly unqualified to be athletic director, but if I suddenly became our AD the program will still continue grow. There are a lot of good things going on. However, eventually the novelties of football, new facilities and a new conference are going to wear off. We should be maximizing our fan base by getting them excited about future projects,  instead of essentially telling them he "we have arrived b/c we are in the Big East now.....open up your wallet"
  10. So do you think I am making it up? It sounded crazy to me as well but apparently she was not just an isolated case. It's been happening all over the state. It was a front page story in the Tribune and got some television coverage. There are many who teachers who don't agree with the changes in teaching that FCAT has brought about.
  11. The odd thing with Jones, is that he had a a decent score on his ACT and he had over GPA over a 3.2, at least according to his Rivals write-up. I also know of a girl in Riverview, who had been accepted to Duke, Florida and a couple other excellent academic schools who despite scoring well on her SATs and ACT she could pass a certain part of the FCAT.
  12. The logo sells itself. It's was the attractive, fresh new look that USF were looking for since the ill fated Satanic Billygoat was released in the 1990s. I would be willing to give the athletic marketing branch at USF a lot more credit if the continue the trend upwards. Hopefully, they will use proper discretion in placement and what items usage of the Iconic Bull are permited. IMHO, they did a terrible disservice by allowing our wonderful new logo to be put on midfield at RJS right inside the silhouete of a white surrender flag. That just looks bad and cheapens the effort.
  13. Thanks VG... I put this together by furiously cutting and pasting for a few minutes and I missed on Hall. Gary- I think it's important that we have a go to stat or link for this crap. As we have found out the media likes to haunt these message boards to glean insight or factoids to make them look good. For years, the "redneck media" keeps writing that we basically Marshall South, yet never cite any real stats. IIRC, the only year where we had a signifcant number of transfers and a partials was our first year or two, when we were literally starting from scratch. Other than those years I don't we are any worse or any better than your average program.
  14. Below is a list of our current roster sorted based on their eligibility status when they arrived at USF. Using the provided key please check for errors. There were some players like Royal or Gipson who I was not sure if they were a full-, partial-, or non-qualifiers. Based on my numbers: Partial --  4 Non-qualifiers -- 4 JUCO -- 2 If these numbers checkout I think we can pretty much end the popular but untrue "USF Prop 48 Myth".

  16. Now was that actual or reported weight of 'blow he was trying to sell? ;^)
  17. It's a two way street, much like players decommitting at the last minute can devastate a recruiting class, a last minute coaching changes may make players unhappy. It happens all the time. However, coaches always tell players to select a 'school' not a 'coach' when making their final decision.
  18. Something else to consider: For most of us watching football is entertainment, however for these coaches this little game of ours is how they feed their kids, pay their mortgages and take care of their families. I am not suggesting changes do not need to be made, however we should show a little more class instead of carelessly calling for someone to get fired. Especially right before Christmas. My guess, that much like our WR coach last year, coaching changes and additions will be subtle and tactfully done after recruiting is finished.
  19. "I'm thinking I'm better than he is," Midgett said. "But some of it is my fault. I didn't come in as ready to play my freshman year as I should have, and I've made some bad decisions. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I think we have had enough head cases..... EZU and this kid deserve each other
  20. Why? Do you want to fire the coach already? lacrosse is a great game that most Floridians know nothing about....so I doubt we would ever field a team where most of our recruiting would come from the Northeast. Swimming is another story.....there is no excuse for not having a strong swimming program.
  21. You will have to excuse KL. He is one of those UCFers that thinks that getting snubbed publicly by the Big east, going 0 - 11, hiring a coach with baggage, falling way behind attendance projections needed to pay the bills and getting stuck in an inferior conference is actually a good thing. The black and gold blind optimism glasses must be a big seller at Central Florida Lenscrafters nowadays...
  22. Why would a "USF Student" who says he essentially doesn't care about USF athletics be posting on a message board dedicated to USF sports. Doesn't make much sense. It looks UCFers love to play with that silly 'guest' option..... :
