  1. If BUTCH DAVIS is asking for more than $1 million a year than I would say forget that idea. Right now, I am happy with Jim Leavitt. I just wanted to throw this name out there to see what kind of reaction it would get. Davis would not be a bad candidate if Leavitt was no longer the coach at USF.
  2. Ronnie Banks was doing ok during mop up duty during the Blackwell era. We all thought that Banks was the QB. Honestly, Banks was doing well right up to that TCU game. After that TCU game, he was a deer in the headlights. The QB coach should have done a better job on Banks right there, but it just did not work out. You can only teach a kid so much IMO. If they dont have what it takes then it is hard to get much out of them.
  3. Maybe USF will use Denson in the secondary because we need alot of help there. If USF gets Carlton Hill and Grothe, then it will be very interesting to see who wins the QB spot.
  4. To all the Hurricane fans, I get a kick out of how you say that Butch Davis was bad for Miami. He basically built Miami back up from the Erickson probabation days. He is a players coach. He did win big games against FSU and UF. His team got ripped off by the BCS in his final season. They win the national championship against Nebraska the next year with his recruits. Since, Butch Davis has left Miami. They have not been the same. They were a progam that noone was close to being as good with Butch Davis. Call it like it is and realise that Miami is worse off without Butch Davis. BUTCH DAVIS would never lose at home to Clemson. BUTCH DAVIS would be a good fit for USF because he has alot of BIG EAST ties.
  5. BeastieBull, If USF would have continued to improve coming out on the 2002 season, you can bet that Leavitt would have been UF's target. Hell, they were already talking about hiring Leavitt away a few years ago. Alot of them said that they are glad that BAMA did not get Leavitt because they wanted to have Leavitt at USF to be waiting for the UF job opening. By the way, Leavitt destroyed Urban Meyer's ranked Bowling Green team just a few years ago. So, you dont think they would not have looked at that game to decide who was the better coach?? It is easy for you to say this now, but I guarantee you that Leavitt would have been on their list if we would have a couple of 9-2 seasons these last two years. Also, USF played a much tougher schedule this season that UTAH. You get my drift??
  6. beastiebull, Leavitt never promised that PJ or Banks would be good. He just said they looked good, but he never promised anything from them. I just dont think Leavitt wanted to hurt what was left of PJ and Banks confidence by saying they are not looking good while we are going into the season. Look, I could have told you that Banks and PJ looked like crap during the spring game which ended up being so true. That had to be one of the worse spring games in our short history. I will have a better idea during the spring game. I expect USF to pass the ball as much as possible in that spring game to see how the new QBs look. I dont know about you, but I am so looking forward to seeing that spring game this year.
  7. I am sorry, but both Peyton and Chambers are not bad. They were one of the very few bright spots on offense besides Hall. Watch the UAB game to see both what Peyton and Chambers will be able to do with a good passing game. CASE CLOSED. You can call out all those drops, but it is hard to get into a good rhythm when you lost all the confidence in your QB. New blood in QB will change that which is why I cant wait until next season. USF has been aweful on offense ever since Marquell graduated. If you dont realise that a good QB will make a difference on this offense then you have not followed USF football.
  8. Nah, what would have made it worse is if USF finished 5-6. In reality, USF was bad as they can be when they played bad, but good when they executed. ARMY did beat Cincy if there is anything to that. Face it, our poor tackling had alot to do with the ARMY loss. Even ARMY fans were telling me that our defense was horrible. And I sure as heck will believe an ARMY telling me what bad football is because they had to watch ARMY play all season.
  9. And to put the icing on the cake about how competitive the BIG EAST is or was. The top two ACC teams this season were teams coming from the BIG EAST in Miami and Va Tech. It was only fitting that they were the cream of the crop because they came from the BIG EAST. I know I am on this rant, but everyone kept saying that the BIG EAST was nothing. They kept saying that both Miami and Va Tech had it easy because of the BIG EAST schedule. Hell, the experts picked VaTech to finish 6th in the ACC this season because of that, but they found out the hard way in that VA TECH was always a strong program while in the BIG EAST. CASE CLOSED!!!
  10. Here is my issue with this. You have the ESPN talking heads such as all high and mighty Kirk Herbstret ripping the BIG EAST as much as he can, yet noone rips the PAC 10 for having Cal go over Texas??? All Kirk was saying that that Pittsburgh should give up their BCS spot to Texas which is hogwash. Noone wanted FSU to give up their BCS spot a few years ago when they had an 8-3 record in a weak ACC. Where was Herbstet then??? Whatever, I am sick and tired of hearing these ESPN talking heads rip the BIG EAST. I have to ask a question about their knowlegde because they sure never mentioned UL as being part of the new BIG EAST. WTF?? And smazza, I dont care what you say, but UL would kill Cal and Texas on the football field, yet they are not getting any props from the high and mighty Herbstret. All those ESPN talking heads need to do more research and realise that the NEW BIG EAST wont have any Duke's, Wake Forest's, Vanderbilt's, Baylor's, and Arizona's. The new BIG EAST will be competitive from top to bottom as long as USF can build up. That is what those idiot ESPN clowns need to get through their ACC ass-kissing skulls!!!!
  11. USFbull3, I think the coaching staff thought it was best that Crossley started the game since he practice with the team all week. Maybe Crossley was having great practices to earn the start. Anyway, the season was over, so I rather have these seniors that help built this program have their day. I only wished Leavitt would have started Ronnie Banks in that game. I thought that was a bad call to not give Banks the start.
  12. I believe Hall will stay. He is doing a good thing right now by getting his name out there to the NFL. They will tell him that he not guaranteed to go in the top 3 rounds. I am just worried that an agent will talk Hall into something that will not happened just like what happened to Shurron Pierson. Hall needs to make sure to stay away from those bad agents.
  13. I say, give the OC one more year to turn it around. He did not have much to work with at the QB spot. I dont have how you look at it, he called alot of good plays that were just not executed. If anyone needs to be let go it would be the QB coach. The ex Gator QB John Reaves has been willing to listen if there is a job open to coach the QBs. John Reaves did a good job while he was coaching under Steve Spurrier. Reaves lives in the area and would not mind helping the QBs out.
  14. Either way you look at it. It was a hell of a play to call. I still dont think some of you USF fans think that Mike Hobbie is a bad OC. If USF executes they would have scored alot of points under his offense. In other words, it was not the OC's fault. Maybe you can blame the player development, but you cant blame the OC. Hobbie calls a more exiting offense than Chico Canales.
  15. smazza, Let them have all the bullentin board material they want. They still wont stop this program in the next few years. I think they realise that which is why they are beating the hell out of us now. They better beat us now because they **** well know that it wont be that easy. I know our program is not that far away. We beat a good UAB team. We beat TCU. We beat those teams because our QB was making plays. Next season, USF will have alot more QBs to work with. Courtney Denson, Louis Gauchette, Matt Grothe (if he stays committed), and Carlton Hill (hopefully he commits to USF). I expect some changes to happen. In reality, the play calling was not as bad when we passes. We just could not make a throw. You see how well USF does when we do complete the pass. Hell, USF beat a ranked BOWLING GREEN team coached by EVERY MEDIA'S FAVORITE COACH (URBAN MEYER) a few years ago. Do you see people calling URBAN MEYER a poor coach because he got shut down and blow out to USF??? Hell no. Leavitt is a great coach that will turn it around. You dont have other programs calling for Leavitt if you are not a good coach. If anything, I am glad USF did not have a great season because UF would have hired Leavitt away. Thank goodness for that because I dont want to lose LEAVITT.
  16. We are still very lucky IMO. I dont care how embarrassed some of you USF fans were, I am still pround of those players and coaches. I will miss those seniors that played a big part of USF joining the BIG EAST. This year was a big fluke IMO. Everything that could go wrong just went wrong. For example, Pat Julmiste throws that pass high to SJ Green which causes our WR to jump and get nailed which was fumbled for a TD. Another example is when Chambers was stretching for more yardage, yet he fumbles right before his knee hits the ground. It was only fitting that RB Billy Henderson fumbles on the 1 yard line as we were going to score to end the season. That play right there just tells you that USF had bad luck this season. I think that USF had alot of good luck in 2003 such as winning those close OT games and the BIG EAST invite that 2004 had to be an unlucky year for USF. What has 2004 been good for USF??? The basketbulls did terrible in 2004 , the basebulls did not do well in 2004, the soccerbulls did not make postseason, and the football team did terrible in 2004. Here is hoping that 2005 will be the year that USF have great success on and off the field. 2004 WAS JUST A FORGETABLE YEAR FOR ME PERSONALLY.
  17. I am sitting here glad right now. I am glad this season is over because I know next season will be much better because we will have more options. Hopefully, Brian Fisher will get clearance from the NCAA because USF really needs him on offense. USF fans think that Fisher was not important, but I will tell you that Fisher would have made a clutch WR in 3rd situations. He would have gave a big spark on punt returns as a player that can make it to the endzone. Honestly, did anyone think that USF was going to return a kickoff or punt return for a TD with what we had to work with this season?? There were no Rubin's, Reed's, or Fisher's this season. If anything, us BULL fans will appreciate those players such at Marquell Blackwell even more because of these last two seasons. As USF fans, we have had it easy compared to alot of programs. There is nothing to be sad about this program because we are still heading to the BIG EAST at the end of the day. Now attendence needs to go up or the BIG EAST will throw us out just like they did Temple. I just hope USF alumni and students never take this BCS membership for granted because it can and will be taken away from USF if we dont get good attendence numbers. USF fans need to realise that this season was a fluke. There is no way that USF will be down for long. We have too much talent in our area, so it is up to the coaches. If the coaches cant do it then it will be up to USF to find coaches that can do it.
  18. smazza, We have talent, we just have young talent that are not ready. Jenkins was a HIGH SCHOOL stud that chose USF over Nebraska. Danny Verpaele is supposed to be better than his older brother, Kevin. I dont recall how highly touted Trae Williams was, but he really needs to improve if he wants to play DB. USF also has alot of talent redshirting by Coach Leavitt's design. If you listened to Coach Leavitt's post game interview, you would have heard him promise us that our defense will get better when we have our redshirts play including Tim Smith. Leavitt promised that our defense will have to get back to where it was dominating. Leavitt's goal is to make sure that we dont have a defense as bad as this season. He sounded so eager to get on with next season which makes me believe that there is help on the way. I never really heard Leavitt sound so open about the talent he has redshirted like that before.
  19. The secondary in our defense is very bad. I just dont have faith in them to stop 3rd down and long anymore. I gave up on them during that Cincy game.
  20. I am not trying to start some BS, but I just like having options out there in the future. If the program does not turn things around next season, I think Butch Davis would be a good option for USF. He recruits the state of Florida well, and he knows the BIG EAST. I want this to work with Leavitt, but if the program still making bone head penalties and missing tackles then a change may be needed. With that said, I believe USF will turn things around and go at least 6-5 to make a bowl game.
  21. Hey USF and UCF fans. The football season is over!!! We both should have better years next season. I wish UCF luck in C-USA next season. I will love it if you beat USM. No offense, but I hate USM more than UCF. Good luck next season except when you are playing USF (FINALLY!!!) CHEERS!!!!
  22. I will be there today. Even if USF is not playing well, the games are always a lot of fun to be at. Who can beat college football??? Not the NFL, those players dont give it their all because they need to keep making that money. If this is truely a football town, then the casual fan in Tampa will be there to watch a top 25 team play. If there are no fans there, then Tim Brown was right on about Tampa not being a football town. Tampa is know for a bandwagon town, so I dont expect it to change today.
  23. Robert McCullum said the players played not to lose the game which is why they lost in his opinion. Hopefully, this is a wake up call for this new regime. This team will have to fight harder than they did these last two games or it will be another long year.
  24. You would think that UNC would want to play USF in Tampa when they have FSU at home. Does anyone know if FSU will be playing at UNC in 2006? or 2007?? Thanks.
  25. Listening to Coach Leavitt speak, you can tell that he cant wait until next season. He seemed very down after the ARMY game, but I realise that he didnt sound as down after the Cincy or Memphis loses. I got the feeling that he knows USF will be pretty good in the next few years. And you know what, I am going to take his word because USF would be nothing if it was not for the hard work that Leavitt put into this start up program. Maybe some of the naysayers need to look at reality for once and realise that Leavitt is our only hope to get us to where we need to be.
