  1. Be carefull Mike....this is sounding awefull close to saying the last THREE games were tuneup games. I got blasted for saying such things ÂÂ
  2. Awesome thanks! I have one slot open monday morning before I fly back and needed another course nearby. Any preference over the two you recommend? Looks like only the hallbrook course is listed on my sky caddie so that may win out
  3. Where are you going golfing? so far I've set up tee times at Ironhorse, Deer Creek, Prairie Highlands and Drumm Farm. Any recommendations? It's a 3 and a half hour drive to Hutchinson and Prairie Dunes. It's the best course in Kansas. Probably top 10 nationally. That's a pretty long drive though. Alvamar in Lawrence was in the top 80 in the nation about ten years ago.  That's the last time I checked anything like that. Unfortunately, the public part of it is pretty run of the mill. If you can make it to Manhattan, KS (about an hour and a half drive) you can get into Colbert Hills. It's very similar to Prairie Dunes (like old British courses) and is strruggling financially. It was built by Jim Colbert and is supposed to be a very nice and challenging course. Other than that your list is pretty solid. I'd say that Colbert and dunes are better than any on your list, but don't know anything about how difficult it is to get on the course. The weather should be nice for ya. I'm staying in Lee's Summit so I've gone with mostly close courses (I think) but I'll check out Colbert Hills since an hour and a half really shouldn't be that difficult. The 3.5 hour might be a bit further then my group want's to drive though. Thanks for the recommendation!

  5. wow i dont even know what to say to that post. And you think the people who want to make this an annual are misguided.  Seriously wake the F#%* up.  As I said this was a fun game and the team showed alot of character to pull it out, but if you can even say it's in the same league as playing the top teams in our conference (or even the middle of the road teams) then it's you who has to wake the f*** up. This game did exactly what it needed to do, it was a game against a mediocre team that we can use to improve on the problems we've had. The result is some character building, hopefully gaining some cohesiveness in our struggling offense and some much needed experience for our young players. At the same time it showed that we have a long way to go to be able to compete against the best teams in conference for championship and a bcs bid which (excuse me for not being f-ing awake) I assume is the actual goal of our program. So yes IMO this was a good and needed tune up to help us compete in conference. A tune up game is playing against an inferior team on a talent level.  The talent level of these two programs is pretty close.  Down the road if we continue to get better and better players and they remain the same it can be viewed as a tune up game.  Right now the talent level is very very close.  This game could have gone either way.  A break here or there and we blow them out.  A break here and there and they beat us by a couple scores.  A game like this is hardly a tune up.  I disagree that it's a requirement for the team to be inferior to make the game a tuneup (it's certainly common but not necessary) but your entitled to your opinion as I am mine. As I said above trying to stop this stupid debate you are also entitled to be happy making this game a big deal but personally ucf does nothing to get me overly excited and I'm sorry you just can't understand that some people just don't see the big deal in playing them.

  7. As a HUGE critic of Rod Smith I will give him credit for a nice adjustment in the second half. I think his play calling was HORRID until our second posession of the second half. Don't know what happened but it was nice that he finally realized he didn't have to run the ball every single first and second down. Once he made the adjustment he actually called a decent 2nd half. As far as letting up on him, well, let's see what happens the rest of the year. Don't forget he called a good game against Louisville last year too but take away that game and the rest of the year stunk. Also, as bad as the play calling is what has bothered me is the way we've been so ill prepared, slopy and seemingly clueless in the fundamentals over the past few years. I put this on squarely on his and Hobbie's shoulders for poor coaching and poor planning. If our offense can CONSISTENTLY play as a cohesive unit against even the better teams on our schedule then it will be time to really give him props.
  8. Your taking the comparison much more serious then I had intended it. It's obvious you like the competition level of ucf, hey that's fine. For me, I've already wasted too much time on this. I'm glad we won and it was a fun tuneup game, now I just can't wait until we play the real teams on our schedule.
  9. What I'm saying means nothing more then the fact we were much closer to a loss to fiu then ucf. I agree part of the competition was ourselves, although we had enough of ourselves to overcome against ucf as well (the only thing missing at the end was a bow to go along with the gift our punter gave them) I don't think it is a diservice to our team at all, both games were wins and we overcame some issues in both to pull them out. I just don't put quite the weight that you do in the ucf game....was a nice win yes, but earth shattering? Hardly
  10. I agree comletely, FIU was a better opponent then ucf was...and they were playing in our house. Oh Jebus...they were not. We made several mistakes to make that game close. FIU's team didn't give us a tougher game WE gave ourselves a lot tougher of a game with the big penalties however, FIU was NOT a better opponent. I'm sorry, but the mere fact that UCF was able to run and (somewhat) pass on our defense. The game came down to the final minutes because both teams were playing hard and well. Our team put together a game that was 3 times better than we did against FIU and it showed. Listen I understand that you don't want anything to do with UCF but give credit where it is due. They came to play and it was a great game that we pulled out because we are the BETTER team. This wasn't a game where our team came in with their thumbs in their asses thinking they were gonna dominate throughout. I'll agree that we played a tighter game against ucf but the truth is (regardless of the reasons) we were in much more danger of a loss to fiu than we were to ucf. However, I'm also not going to get into a huge debate on the quality of fiu vs ucf as I don't see them as all that different from each other.
  11. I was actually pretty disappointed with the ucf band, I love marching bands and I'd heard so much about how good they were. Maybe it was my seats, but I didn't hear anything but drums during the game....really, I never heard ANY brass at all, just a kind of low rolling drum beat here and there. Halftime I can't say since they played away from our side so it was impossible to judge the quality. This was the first time I've had seats this close to HOT (I'm across from them at ray jay) and really really got a different feel to the energy of the band. They have sounded incredible this year but up close they really blew me away.
  12. I agree comletely, FIU was a better opponent then ucf was...and they were playing in our house.
  13. "We're #4!!"  Doesn't do it for you?? ;-) ;-) ;-) Essentially USF can brag that we are, in fact, ahead of UCF.  Confirming Paul Griffin's quote - and the thoughts of most people on here. Nope sorry, being 4th best doesn't get me jumping for joy, it's just a step not a goal. I also believe that our conference affiliation made that an easy sell with or without the game so all this game does is allow them the opportunity to say it aint so. If we beat UL or WVU then we've accomplished something, as of now we have yet to beat a team worth pounding our chest over.
  14. I'll be there with a group of 7 for both the AA pre-game and the game. gonna be awesome, 4 days of golfing and a Saturday full of Bulls football!
  15. Joey, do you like movies about gladiators? for those old enough to remember the movie Airplane ÂÂ
  16. Bragging rights.....to WHAT? fun game? yeah it was fun, good crowd? sure but bragging rights? I still fail to see the importance of this game. Then, I don't think you can be helped. Also...its easy to tell that you are not an USF Football Assistant Coach who has to recruit in FLA. KL Winning any game is important for recruiting however we already have the advantage without even playing this game so I see no advantage there. However, what I was asking is from the Moffit's quote of "bragging rights" and as of yet I haven't heard a single answer to what we can brag about by winning this game. Nothing but vague non-answers from everyone, so again I'll ask.... winning this game gives "bragging rights" to what exactly?
  17. not entirely.....there was a great shot of gurlybull (boyfriend is a lucky guy)
  18. Bragging rights.....to WHAT? fun game? yeah it was fun, good crowd? sure but bragging rights? I still fail to see the importance of this game. Are we bragging that we are the best team that isn't FSU, UM or UF? wow, some accomplishment....or maybe that we are the best team within 90 miles? sounds like a high school rivalry . Really, can someone explain to me what we achieved in this game and what we are bragging about. This was nothing more than a well attended game against a team that nobody in the country cares about. We got the W and that is always great, but we have nothing to "brag" about....if we beat UL or WVU THEN we can brag. I also promise you if we win either one of those games we'll pointing out those games to show our achievements and there will hardly be more then a footnote to the ucf game.
  19. Of the teams you mentioned I'd pick them in this order: 1) S. Miss 2) ECU 3) Memphis 4) ucf Why the heck would we want another florida team in a bcs conference? My hope is that the doors are closed to them (and all other non-bcs florida teams) for eternity.
  20. And you know this how? they COULD be bcs one day but I hardly think that is guaranteed
  21. they do which is why we have no annual series with them.
  22. Bus 3 ruled! __Eats It, was fun meeting up with you at the taigate and thanks to FlBeach for sharing the beer and hospitality! Not sure what the guy was so upset about, the pink hat looked great on oleary ;D
  23. the thing is our second drive there was a beautiful pass right in our reciever's hands in stride that would have been a sure 6 points.....dropped. You got the ball and ended up with a field goal 10 point swing right there. We had several other drops for big gaines and then we give you that td at the end of the game with the botched punt. So these things went both ways.
